Chapter eight
Alex POV
I was all dressed in a black suit, my hair combed and well trimmed. I adjusted my tie one time before stepping out of my office.
" My name is Alex Morris and I'm going to be taking you mathematics for the rest of the semester" I announced as I climbed down the stairs of the amphitheatre.
" If you hate mathematics, this class is not for you please leave" I said when I got to the board. None of the students moved an inch.
" Now we may proceed."
Immediately after the class, I walked as fast as I could to my office. I walked in the calmest was possible back to my office. I twisted the door knob and entered in quickly. I took in deep breath in and out as I leaned against the wooden door of my office. I looked down at my hand, my right hand was shaking. I am an introvert and I wasn't a fan of talking to a large crowd of people. I always preferred being in the shadows and not being seen.
I decided to go to the library at least that was the only place I seem to find solace. I picked up my phone and tablet, deciding to take of my suit and tie in order to look casual a bit.
I showed my lecturer identity card to the security officers at the door and they let me in. I walked through the aisle of shelves of books to climb the stairs. Upstairs was the quietest part of the library, there were no much student studying in groups, upstairs was more for the solo birds. I sat in the corner of the room waiting for her. She comes to the library everyday by five o'clock pm and some days by three o'clock pm. I was always looking forward to seeing her. She was one of the reasons I come to the library apart from here being the place I fine solace.
I decided that this was the day I approach her. She sat on her seat looking out the window probably lost in thoughts or taking in the sunset. I walked slowly towards her trying to make sure she doesn't hear my footsteps.
" Beautiful isn't it?" I said behind her making her to divert her gaze from the window. I could now see her facial features properly as I was up close. She squinted at me like she was thinking of something.
" Hello" I said again waving my hand in her face to get her attention.
" Hi" she responded but it come out like a whisper.
" Writer's block?" I asked, but the way her eyebrows furrowed showed me she was confused.
" No, I'm not a writer. I'm an editor" she stuttered.
" I'm Alex, what's your name?" I introduced my name as I wanted to know the name that had this beautiful face.
" My name is Emma." She said quickly then diverting her attention from me. I wanted her attention to be just on me and nothing else.
" So what are you studying or are you the new hot female lecturer every student had been talking my ears off about" I rolled my eyes and made air quotes.
" No, I'm not. I'm just a masters student studying Literature." She replied chuckling. I smiled to at my ability to make her smile.
" That's amazing, you must really a have a truckload of books at home."
" Well it's sort of complicated. So how about you, what are you doing here?"
" This is my favourite place in school, it's quiet, calm, private and you can meet beautiful ladies. Just like I'm meeting you."
" Yea this place is really cool but I still prefer the love garden. What are you studying?" I laughed a bit as what I taught was the complete opposite of what I loved.
" I am a lecturer in mathematics by day and a reader by night."
" A reader who is also good with the numbers, that's really hard to come by."
It felt really good chatting with her and how we connected on our favourite author made me feel I had found the one.
The next day I was really looking forward to seeing her. Immediately after my class by three o'clock pm, I hurried down to the library. When I got there she was already sitted in her usual place reading a book. I squinted my eyes to see the name of the book but it was futile. I sat down at my spot with a book written by Xander Flynn.
I kept gazing at her at intervals through the corner of my eyes. When it was seven thirty pm, I decided to go and talk to her.
" Hey Emma" I greeted when I got to her.
" Hey. . Alex right?" She asked.
" Yes, how are you doing today?"
" I'm doing pretty well she said with a big smile.
" What book are you reading?"
" The art of love and war by my professor, Ellis Windsor." She said running her fingers down the front cover admiring it.
" How about you, what book were you reading today?" She asked.
" The Lady by Xander Flynn." I said pulling out the book from behind me.
" That book still low key gives me the creep." She made a face which made us both laugh.
" What would you be doing next Friday?" I asked
" Working?"
" Working till five o'clock? I don't think so."
" So what if I'm not working?" She asked giving me a sassy expression which made my lips curl into a smile.
" I would love to take you out for drinks."
" Is that a date?"
" No, except you want it to be. It's just two friends who love Xander Flynn going out to get drinks together." She looked at me like she was contemplating.
" No thank you but I have another engagement that day but it could be a later date." My hand balled into a fist and my jaw clenched but I tried not to let it show. I hated being told the word 'no'. It was my most dreaded word. I sent a tight lipped smile her way before walking away and down the stairs. I was determined to get what I want and I would definitely get it.
