When the group of little girl's reached a lane that divides into two ahead, they bid each other good bye, before heading in their ways.
Another good thing that, the orphanage allowed them was, that if when any child turned eight, they were given the right to do some light work, at any place if they wanted, to get some extra pocket money.
Though, the orphanage took care of food and their clothes, there were still a few things that the children would want to have.
The only condition was that, the Orphanage had to be informed where they are working , and what work they were doing. It was to make sure that the little children were not exploited.
Gwen walked down one lane, before she entered a bakery, named, 'Yum- Num Bakery'.
"Hello, Mrs Smith." Gwen greeted the owner of the bakery. She was a plump middle aged woman. Mrs Smith smiled at the little girl and said, "Hello, there. You arrived at a very good time. Hurry and go to the kitchen and help the others. We have a rush today. There is a huge order from the royal palace for the feast today evening, and everyone is busy.
Hurry! Hurry! You can go and start packing the cakes and cookies till then."
Gwen nodded her head with a blink and she swiftly got into the kitchen to see the other three workers all busy with work. They were all older than her. And she was the youngest one there.
Seeing her come, another girl who was nearly five to six years older to her, smiled at her and waved her hand. "Gwen! You are here. Thank Goodness. Please help us."
Gwen nodded with a laugh, before she hurried towards the bundles of cakes and packet to pack them.

It was nearly after a hour that Gwen streched herself, as she felt her neck and back turning numb, after continuously working for a hour.
She sighed when she saw that there were still many cakes and cookies left for packaging, and the ribbons have finished.
Standing up, she went to Mrs Smith and said, "Mrs Smith, we are short in ribbons. We need to get them."
"Oh? Is it?" Mrs Smith blinked before nodding and then she opened the drawer taking out some money and handing it to the girl, "Here, go and bring some ribbons."
Gwen nodded before she took the money. And she was about to sprint to get the ribbons when, Mrs Smith called her, "Have you eaten something?"
Though Gwen was a little confused, she still nodded her head and said, "Yes, Mrs Smith. I have had breakfast in the morning. And there is still time for the lunch." During lunchtime, Gwen would make a quick trip back to the orphanage to eat her lunch before coming back to work.
Mrs Smith nodded, before she took out a packet of two muffins and gave her, "Here, this is for you."
Gwen blinked, looking at the muffins. These were Mrs Smith's special muffins. And she never sold these. These were very exclusive. And only a few whom Mrs Smith like were given the chance to taste them.
And then heard Mrs Smith say, "Happy Birthday child."
On hearing that, Gwen's face lit up like a light bulb on Christmas. She also remembered!
Gwen was always a quiet little girl. And she did also did not have many people to call her, her own. But it felt special and made her happy when a few people around her remembered her birthday. She squealed and said, "Thank you, Mrs Smith."
Mrs Smith chuckled before waving her hand, "Now go, go! Get those ribbons. And yes, take a little break and eat those muffins quickly. If you bring those back, the three other would pester me to give them a packet each too." The elder woman huffed making Gwen laugh. And then the young girl sprinted away to get the ribbons.
