Chereads / a shipload of fools (ST:V SI) / Chapter 25 - aftermath

Chapter 25 - aftermath

Letting the crew free was easy with the Doctors help. All we needed to do was turning the implants off and then making my way over to shut down holodeck 1. That freed the senior crew and let us get control of the ship.

I was helping injured to the sickbay while they fought of the hirogen ships. One hirogen ship get its ass kicked by voyager. Two are a even match...if they are fully crewed and ready.

The main sensors, not the ones used by the transporter are able to get information from the ships, but not enough to get a transporter lock, where able to reveal that only two of the six ships had any crew on them and only a couple of hirogen in total.

Surprise photon torpedos took their engines out and then voyager made a run for it at warp 9.

After everyone serious have been treated It's my turn.

I sit in sickbay ten hours or later as the Doctor remove the Borg ocular implant "I'm afraid to say that your optical nerve was removed and replaced when I was forced to install this so I cant give you your original eye back..."

Nodding I try my best not to touch the connecting that's fitted in my left eyesocket "I understand Doctor. You already told me they would start killing crew if you didn't. Loosing a eye is a small price."

He look distinctly unhappy "That's not all they forced me to do and you know it." and I give him a small smile

"I don't blame you Doctor. You only did what you had to do...and most what you did wasn't that bad or can be reversed." as he put the ocular implant down on the tray and pick up some kind of instrument and start poking the connection sitting above my left eyesocket

"The eye cant be returned. Nor can the genetic resequencing. Or your arm." and I snort slightly

"It's not that bad Doc. You already said you can fit me with the same kind of eye Seven have and that look human. As for the resequencing, while its not the improvements I would have picked, being stronger and having better reflexes cant hurt. I'm mostly angry that it was forced on me. As for the arm is was my own fool fault. I should have know the bastards would boobytrap their weapons."

He frown slightly and switch instrument "You are taking this all remarkably well. The rest of the crew I can understand dont have that powerful of a reaction, they cant remember anything. You do."

I nod "It somewhat worry me as well, but my guess is that I'm repressing it for the moment or is in schock. Just make sure I don't flip out later and try to kill the captain or something, ok? I work it out on the holodeck later, I'm sure the computer for a holographic councilor somewhere."

He frown before nodding and switching instrument again "That's not a bad idea for the entire crew." and I smile slightly

"It's already on both lists I have supplied to the senior staff about improvements in the past. Let me guess, you didn't get a copy?" and he shake his head.

That's when Janeway walk inside "Doctor, may we have a moment in private please?" and he hesitate for a moment before nodding "I need to replicate a new ocular implant." and he walk into his office before he turn to me

"You saved the ship. Thank you Hiver." and I just look at her

"How many did we lose?" I ask and she frown, looking down

"Five dead." and I snort

"You where lucky then. I assume I am to report to the brig for my seven year sentence?" and she blink looking up at me

"What are you talking about?" and I just look back

"Killing one hostile alien have me a month in the brig. By my calculations killing 85 should give me about seven years." as she frown

"It's not the same situation..." as I snort

"Isn't it? Neither had a chance to defend themselves and both where a threat to ship and crew. Why would one be praised and one punished? I did the most horrible thing in existence today, I extinguished Minds. I did it to save the crew of this ship. This is the second time since I arrived here that hostile forces have taken over the ship. It didn't need to happen last time and it didn't need to happen this time. If you had implemented even half of my suggestions both would have been prevented. How many now dead would still be alive if not your principles of 'peace and exploration' Captain?"

Now she really start to look bothered "Starfleet isnt a military org..." and I interrupt her

"Fuck Starfleet! I don't ask you to start shooting on every ship in range! What I want is for you to put your ship and crew first and to actually mount effective defenses against hostile aliens! If they try to kill you, kill that bastard first!" and the Doctor step up behind me, injecting a hyposprey into my neck

"And there it come. Captain, I recommend you leave, you are upsetting my patient. While you and the rest of the crew might not remember the hunts, he do. He lived it all." and I feel myself start to relax, laying down on the biobed as the Doctor support me.

"Captain..." I mumble, struggling to remain conscious for a moment longer "Bunkroom 5-B on deck 12. The hirogen...it need cleaning before it become to bad."

She hesitate for a moment before nodding "I...I'll have Harry put a team together."
