"Excuse me." Felix said. He rushed to Brooklyn's side when he saw her making her way back from the washroom.
Lauren was taken aback to see no reaction of jealousy whatsoever. How could this be?
"Hey, you okay?" Felix asked Brooklyn like he was concerned about her.
Brooklyn was confused to hear him ask her in the softest voice he had ever used with her. What's wrong with him?
"I'm fine."
Felix sighed. He took a hold of Brooklyn's hand as they walked towards the crowd that had gathered around Gina and Raymond for the cake-cutting part.
It was such a delightful sight to see his parents celebrating 35 years of marriage together. Felix was lost in thought, gazing at Brooklyn who was feeding Gina a piece of cake. His lips uncontrollably curled upwards seeing Brooklyn so happy and free.
After a wonderful night, guests were leaving one by one.
"Why don't you spend a night at our house?" Gina pleaded with Brooklyn.
"Maybe next time. I promise." Felix nodded in agreement.
Only then did Gina leave it alone. She and Raymond bid the couple farewell as they too made their way to their Range Rover.
Felix drove the Bugatti on their way back home. The car ride was silent, as usual. Felix glanced a couple of times at Brooklyn to know that something was bothering her.
"What's wrong?"
Brooklyn shakily exhaled. "You."
Felix scrowled in confusion. "Me?"
"Your sudden care for me is getting ridiculous."
Silence hang in the air between them.
Felix sighed. "I know." He tightly clutched the steering wheel. "About last night..."
Felix was referring to that night when Brooklyn was forcefully sedated against her will.
Brooklyn chuckled dryly. "Do you pity me now? Is that it?"
Felix clenched his teeth. "That's..."
"There's no need for that. If I needed your pity, I'd have done so a long time ago." She curtly told him before quickly getting out of his car shortly after parking the Bugatti.
