"It's been a while, Mrs. Bridget," I said, stepping into the warm, inviting space.
"Yes, it has. You've been busy, I presume?" she replied, wiping her hands on her apron.
"Always," I said with a chuckle.
She smiled knowingly. "With the chairman back, I imagine you'll be around more often now."
"I hope so," I said. Then, as a joke, I added, "Did you bake any cake for my arrival?"
Her laughter filled the kitchen. "Of course, I knew you'd be here."
As I turned to leave, I paused at the door. "Thank you for the other day, by the way."
"You're welcome," she said warmly. Then, as if remembering something, she added, "Oh, Agnes will be back in town in a few days."
