Chapter 52 - chapter 52

Uneasy Alliances

Sam's point of view

Morning came too quickly, dragging with it the lingering weight of yesterday's events. My thoughts were tangled as I replayed everything that happened: the confrontation at Malik's house, Bella's unexpected involvement, and the men who had been lurking in the shadows.

It was clear now that Bella was digging into her father's case far deeper than I'd realized. No matter how much I wanted to keep her out of it, I knew it was futile. Her determination burned too brightly, and no amount of warnings or attempts to shield her would hold her back.

Frustrated, I picked up my phone and dialed Eliana's number.

"Are you good?" I asked as soon as she answered.

"Yes," she replied curtly.

"Any updates?"

"We've investigated Malik's house," Eliana said, her tone professional. "But there's no evidence. No prints, no files, nothing. The forensics team ruled his death a suicide."
