Chapter 39 - Chapter 12: Farewell

Upon hearing the host's announcement, Master Roshi immediately gestured to the audience with a thumbs-up, and the crowd applauded him enthusiastically. Although the match did not determine a winner between John and Master Roshi, everyone felt that Master Roshi deserved the championship for his impressive feat of destroying the moon.

Krillin and Goku, who had just regained consciousness and were unsure of what had happened, looked on with regret. John, however, expressed no concern; he believed that even if his arm hadn't been injured, he might not have been able to defeat Master Roshi in a direct confrontation due to his limited training time.

In just eight months of training and development, John had not fully unlocked the potential of his Saiyan body.

Thus, the Tenkaichi Budokai came to an end, with Master Roshi winning a prize of 500,000 Zeni.

Originally, Bulma intended to treat everyone to a feast since, apart from Krillin, everyone else was her friend—including Krillin now. However, Master Roshi insisted on treating them as he felt his disciples had worked hard. This decision would become one he regretted.

In a luxurious restaurant, everyone else dined normally; Krillin and Yamcha ate slightly more than average. In contrast, John and Goku ate like competitive eaters, devouring bowl after bowl of rice, meat, fish, and more.

The chef was initially very enthusiastic about preparing exquisite dishes but soon found that he couldn't keep up with their eating pace. Eventually, he resorted to simply cooking food quickly and serving it hot.

As a result, John and Goku polished off enough food meant for hundreds of diners in the restaurant.

Looking at his two disciples, Master Roshi nervously touched his pocket where the 500,000 Zeni prize was kept; he worried whether it would be enough to cover this meal.

When it came time to settle the bill, the waiter presented a long receipt with a big smile.

Master Roshi looked at the itemized list and quickly flipped to the total at the bottom.

"770,000 Zeni!" Master Roshi exclaimed in shock.

The waiter politely replied: "If you don't believe me, you can calculate it yourself." He pushed a calculator toward Master Roshi.

Blushing with embarrassment, Master Roshi struggled to find words.

Seeing his expression change, the waiter's demeanor shifted as well. He said sternly: "You're not telling me you don't have any money?"

Master Roshi quickly responded: "No! I have money." He hurriedly pulled out a check for 500,000 Zeni from his pocket and handed it over.

The waiter's expression didn't brighten at all; he continued: "You're still short 270,000 Zeni. Would you like to pay cash or by card?"

At this moment, Master Roshi quietly asked: "Can I owe you this? Don't worry; as soon as I have money, I will pay you back."

"Owe money? Do you think that's possible?" The waiter's voice suddenly rose as he shouted: "Dad! There's someone who wants to eat without paying!"

"Who dares eat without paying?!" A booming voice came from the kitchen. A giant man over three meters tall emerged wearing an apron and holding a sharp kitchen knife.

The waiter pointed at Master Roshi and said: "Dad! It's him!"

"So you want to eat without paying?!" The large man glared menacingly at the frail old man before him, ready to teach him a lesson as soon as he confirmed it.

At this point, the delay in settling the bill drew attention from everyone around who noticed the commotion between Master Roshi and the restaurant staff.

Finally understanding what was happening, Bulma stepped in to cover the remaining balance for Master Roshi.

After thanking Bulma profusely, Master Roshi scolded John and Goku for being gluttons who only knew how to eat without contributing financially.

Both John and Goku recognized their fault and kept silent. John hadn't expected that after living so long, Master Roshi wouldn't even have 1 million Zeni on hand.

They completely forgot that during their eight months of training under him they had consumed all his resources—though they earned money themselves, it was never enough because Master Roshi had provided them with many precious herbs in their meals for recovery.

After all the festivities concluded, it was time for farewells. After witnessing Goku's and John's appetites during dinner, Master Roshi said: "I've taught you everything I can; from now on your training will be up to you. It's time for you both to venture out on your own."

Both John and Goku agreed with Master Roshi's statement. Goku immediately expressed his intention to train while searching for the Four-Star Dragon Ball left by his grandfather.

John also mentioned that he planned to return to West City before embarking on new training journeys.

Finally, only Krillin remained. Master Roshi hoped Krillin would express a desire for adventure but was surprised when Krillin said:

"I'm still young; I believe I should continue training under Master Roshi until I can break through to new realms. Plus, I have nowhere else to go; I might as well stay at Kame House with Master Roshi so he won't be lonely."

Hearing Krillin's words nearly made Master Roshi lose control; after all, he had intended to return home for some quality time with Launch.

However, since his disciple had made such a statement and was determined about it, Master Roshi could only accept Krillin's decision with tears in his eyes.

Bulma gifted Goku her Dragon Radar hoping he would soon find his grandfather's Four-Star Dragon Ball.

After saying goodbye to everyone, Goku took off on Flying Nimbus for an adventure since it had been nearly a year since he'd last used any Dragon Balls.

Meanwhile, John returned with Bulma along with Yamcha, Oolong, and Puar back to West City.

However, things took an unexpected turn when John completely forgot about this part of the story—Bulma lost her flying capsule again while they were in the desert!

After running out of fuel for their car in the desert after five days of walking together—John and Yamcha took turns carrying Bulma because otherwise she wouldn't have made it out even in fifty days given her stamina!

Upon leaving the desert area finally Bulma immediately contacted nearby Capsule Corporation employees requesting another flying capsule so they could return safely to West City.
