Chapter 42 - Chapter 15: Pirate Treasure II

John had forgotten that there was actually an alternate route beside this trap-filled corridor, but he completely overlooked it.

Since Goku was able to jump over it, John figured he could do the same. He took a few steps back, then made a running leap, easily clearing the trap.

"That seemed easy!" John said with some pride.

Continuing onward, he found that the rectangular corridor opened into a long passageway made of red bricks. After walking for several hundred meters, the passage transitioned back into a dark stone corridor.

Ignoring it, John pressed on until he noticed several beams of light shining from the ground up to the cave's ceiling.

Moving closer, he discovered that these lights were emanating from the eye sockets of a pile of skulls. He wondered what the pirates intended by setting this up.

Not sensing any immediate danger, John stepped forward but unexpectedly found his footing give way beneath him—the entire floor dropped down.

Reacting quickly, John grabbed the edge of the trap just in time to prevent himself from falling.

Looking down into the pit revealed flowing lava below. Cold sweat broke out on John's forehead; dying here would be too unjust—he nearly met his end before even starting his adventure!

It seemed he needed to be more cautious since he had forgotten many small plot details from the Dragon Ball storyline.

With both hands gripping the edge of the trap, he exerted force and jumped back onto the corridor.

Having narrowly avoided falling into lava, John continued onward but this time with heightened caution, wary of falling into another trap designed by the pirates.

Fortunately, the pirates weren't so cruel; after traversing through the entire corridor, John reached the pirate base's main hall without encountering any further traps.

The pirate base hall was enormous, resembling a port. A large submarine rested on the ocean surface along with several smaller submarines.

Numerous supplies were stacked along the port's edge, and not far away stood an office building.

This pirate base was genuinely vast, indicating just how powerful that group of pirates had been; their strength was certainly comparable to that of today's Red Ribbon Army.

At the same time, John's spirits soared because a stronger pirate force meant there were likely more treasures hidden deep within their base.

He didn't rush in recklessly because he clearly remembered from watching Dragon Ball that there was a patrolling pirate robot at this pirate port.

The most crucial point was that John couldn't eliminate this robot because it was connected to the base's self-destruct mechanism—if the robot were destroyed, the entire pirate base would explode!

Carefully surveying the entire pirate port hall, John confirmed that this robot patrolled within it. All he needed to do was get past its defenses.

Finally spotting an entrance behind some cargo crates leading to where the pirate treasure was located, John dashed toward it, hoping to enter before being detected by the robot.

However, just as he reached halfway there, a barrage of gunfire erupted—bullets rained down toward him!

A long-headed skeleton-shaped robot charged at him while raising its machine-gun arm and wielding a sharp sword in its other hand aimed at John.

John swiftly sidestepped and knocked down this skeleton robot before disarming it and seizing its sword.

As the robot retreated while continuing to fire wildly with its machine gun arm, John dodged repeatedly before leaping closer to strike with his sword and severing its gun arm cleanly off.

Finally, with a flying side kick, John sent the robot crashing into the ocean near the port, splashing water everywhere.

After defeating the robot and noticing it hadn't exploded, John relaxed; before it could crawl back onto shore, he rushed toward that entrance leading to treasure.

Ultimately entering before being discovered by any remaining robots, he dashed into the passage leading to pirate treasure.

Unsure if there were any traps left in this passage made him regret not having reviewed Dragon Ball more thoroughly before being transported here.

Fortunately for him, there were no traps set up by pirates in this passage. Guided by his Dragon Ball Radar, he reached its end.

At the end of this passage lay a pool filled with seawater; according to his radar, the Dragon Ball was just behind this wall.

John took out his submarine capsule and released a small submarine. Thankfully, it fit perfectly in size within this pool.

He piloted his submarine through the passage ahead; soon enough he arrived in a cave that was much smaller than the pirate port itself.

Inside this cave stood an eight-armed statue resembling Guanyin Bodhisattva; each hand held a sword.

In front of this statue were three large chests: one gold chest, one silver chest, and one bronze chest. It remained unclear whether these chests were made of pure gold and silver or merely plated with them.

John reverted his submarine back into capsule form and stepped carefully onto solid ground within this cave.

Aside from the statue and three chests, John saw no treasure at all; however, he was certain that treasure must be hidden somewhere in this cave since it was evident pirates had concealed their loot here!

As John approached closer to inspect further, suddenly the statue's eyes lit up and its arms began to move slowly.

The swords held in its hands shifted forward until their tips pointed directly at John!

"Whoosh... Whoosh... Whoosh..." Three swords launched from Guanyin's statue towards him!

Such an attack posed no real threat; John performed several backflips and jumps to evade all incoming attacks. Once all eight swords had fired off completely, silence returned to the statue as it resumed its stillness.

With that settled, John's gaze returned to those three large chests once more.

He didn't believe any treasure lay within these chests because he clearly remembered from watching TV that pirate treasures were vast—filling entire caves!

If there weren't treasures inside these chests then they likely contained traps instead; otherwise there would be no reason for pirates to leave them here.
