Chereads / Cherubim System / Chapter 11 - Behind enemy lines

Chapter 11 - Behind enemy lines

A lone figure of a young man with copper hair, golden eyes and of course a heavy hand was traversing across Oakland territory. He had wished to go undetected and unnoticed for as long as possible but the deeper he went into the territory of his sworn enemies the greater the chances of running straight into the lion's maw. He was now in deeper waters and the chances of encountering a sea monster had increased manifold.

Ever since he had killed the trackers, he had been on a quest to save his family. The time he slaughtered them though, he was in spiritual form and it gave him a massive boost in terms of power and raw strength. But now he was just a shadow of who he was back at the sacred mountain.

Nonetheless he now had a weapon much more powerful than anything the system could possibly give… Love. He had a burning desire to see his family again and the blood he shared with them, was a red stream of fire coursing through his veins, longing to see them again.

He had a lot more resolve and purpose. He wasn't fighting for power, greed or anything of that sort. He wanted to see his family again, the only people who had ever cared about him in this world. And he was going to do anything in his power to make sure he sees the light in their eyes as he saves their lives from the blazing flames of Oaklanders.

He had already made up his mind on the aspect he wanted to impart right after imparting from Samson's remains and saving them. He wanted to get his hands on the keys of David. He had hoped to ask his siblings to help him find it.

His impartation aspect allows him to share his powers with others so he had planned to impart the strength of Samson on them. They might not be fully compatible to it as they are not marked as chosen like him but it would still empower them to some degree.

The keys of David are very detrimental to his long term goal. The three top ranks of the dark entities are immortal. Namely infernal, ungodly and cursed. But with the keys of David, he can bind them for thousands of years. It's a far fetched goal considering that he hasn't yet fought any dark entity, not even the lowest rank but he still wanted to get his hands on those keys.

Dismissing those thoughts, he focused on his surroundings. His sentience had picked up traces of human aura from a distance. Cautiously and furtively, he approached. The morning sun was already shining in the sky, exposing anything under its life giving light so he had no room for error.

Further ahead, he picked four distinct auras, indicating that there were four individuals. So far he had been picking six auras but for some reason there were only four of them here. The men were engrossed over a board game so with caution he circled around them, sneaking behind the brushes surreptitiously.

He still was a bit wary of the other undetectable guards. He knew they were there somewhere. Maybe a little further ahead beyond the scope of his sentience.

As if to diverge from his thoughts, Kodesh's eyes widened and his mouth agape like he saw a ghost. Two ghosts actually. The two men were right infront of him. He hit upon them before he could even sense them.

It is usually the opposite but this time it was the other way round. His sentience allows him to sense beings first before his golden yellow eyes catches a glimpse of them.

The two ghosts also appeared to have seen a ghost themselves judging by the appalled look on their faces.

'Please don't scream.'

Kodesh thought as he was startled beyond belief.

Spooked and thrown into a panic, kodesh knew he had to act fast. Without time to ponder about how he had not managed to sense them, he lunged forward with harrowing speed, his muscles firing intensively.

His aura was fervent with jittery, deep rage and aggravation. His surroundings seemed to respond to his sudden burst of emotions. The flowers seemed to hide behind the petals and the air tasted a bit bitter, even the soil seemed to move slightly away from where his feet stepped. The only people who could not feel his presence were the four warriors playing a board game and the two bewildered ghosts.

He was about to test his theory of why he couldn't sense them until it was too late.

In the next moment, the white hilted dagger manifested and a split later his arm swung inwards and immediately as it swung backwards the blade puntured the nonplussed man's neck and cut his neck clean off as the crimson liquid sprayed the frightened brushes.

A split second later, the blade exited the other side of the neck and Kodesh let go of the sharp blade at a perfect angle to fly straight towards the next target.

Using the momentum of the backward swing that sliced through the first man's neck, it propelled at devastating velocity towards the other man and plunged deep into his left eye socket and protruded at the back of his skull.

But the man didn't fall dead as expected. He just stood there, his remaining eye wide open as if staring into Kodesh's soul.

Unnerved and confused Kodesh's whole life flashed in front of him. Just a shout to alert his comrades was all the man needed to do.

Seconds away from his cover being blown and probably killed, he summoned back the blade into the block prints and readied himself for the worst case scenario. But the zombie just stared at him with dead eyes.

Moments later he summoned the blade from the block prints and as it manifested, he charged towards the zombie to deliver the killing blow but before he could get there, the man's body leaned backwards and in the next moment, he fell gracelessly to the ground.

The man had died the moment the white glass struck his head but since he had perfectly balanced his feet and his center of mass before he died, he just stood there like he was still alive. Like he was indeed a ghost that can't be killed by a dagger.

Relieved and grateful to have slain the two man without drawing attention, Kodesh dashed further away from the crime scene as fast as he could.

His theory was proved right. He had anticipated that they were too weak. That was why he couldn't sense them until he was too close.

Come to think of it, his covert operation was almost blown by weaklings.

But before long though, a burnished silver armored warrior caught the scent of blood. Alerting his men, they followed the scent and discovered the gruesome scene of brutality and aggravation that happened right under their noses.

Right near the corpses were fresh prints going towards the hills.
