Chereads / Cherubim System / Chapter 17 - They can run but they can’t hide

Chapter 17 - They can run but they can’t hide

Dumbfounded and utterly shocked, Kodesh couldn't believe the angelic voice echoing in his ears at that desperate moment. The soft voice was so unexpected that it took him by surprise, almost getting him killed.

Luckily his stout ghostly shield of otherworldly light managed to suddenly appear out of nothingness at his rear side, dissolving the impact of the colossal war hammer like it was made of a weightless feather.

He was nonplussed because he could only receive abilities from other heavenly systems and he thought they were more like a needle in a hay stack.

Well they are not really rare and they are also not that common. It's just that, most of the heavenly systems among humans are corrupted by the seven deadly sins.

They are called corrupted systems when they are in the hands of pagans.

And Kodesh had stumbled upon one of them.

Without time to remain astonished or even check the block prints for the astounding ability he had just received, Kodesh explosively lunged towards the few remaining warriors.

He was exhausted to the point of collapsing because the shield was rapidly draining his remaining strength but he still fought bravely and valiantly, digging deep into his inner reserves.

The armored warriors were now backing away as the fight was dragging on. With a ghostly shield of faith reflexively protecting him, they knew they were at a great disadvantage.

As the fight was raging on in the hillside, the four remaining leather armored men immediately fled for their dear lives. The sudden demise of the high born knight who perished at the hands of kodesh was a heavy blow to the horde and now Kodesh found himself in a desperate situation.

He was only one man, so he couldn't fight them all as they were scattering through the hillside. He had an Omnipresence aspect but unfortunately it didn't work that way.

Exhausted and out of options, Kodesh tried to clobber the mace user with his powerful right hand but the man slickly rolled under the punch and since Kodesh had committed his entire strength into the attack, coupled with the fact that his body was already weak and worn out, the weighty right hand unceremoniously lifted him from the ground as it was flying past the target and he gracelessly flew and crashed into the hummocks, sending shards of golden brown rocks flying.

He somewhat looked like Superman as his weighty hand was leading the way.

Picking himself from the ground, Kodesh's emotions swirled fervently, his temper boiling and hints of torrid emotions ardently visible in his sunny eyes.

He had worked hard only to fail at the very last moment. He had risked it all up to this point and barely managed to survive.

Thinking about his dear mother, his eyes watered with tears. He was the last born so he was more of a mama's boy.

Memories of his sweet sister's beautiful smile flashed in his mind and his heart lurched with sorrow.

His father made him the archer he is today and memories of him were bitterly poignant.

His brother had taught him most of the things he knew. He was a cheerful and caring older brother who did everything in his power to see the light in his sunny eyes beam with joy.

Fervent with imbued emotions, his thoughts wandered to the last time he was under the roof of their castle. Reminiscing about that tragic morning when he was rudely awoken by the cacophony of screams, war cries and thuds of collapsing buildings, the dam in his sunny eyes broke once again and tears streamed down his cheeks like tidal waves.

He vividly remembered running desperately for his life only to be buried under a heap of rubble and lost his hand. That was the first time he almost lost consciousness so he remembered it like it was yesterday, almost like he was reliving the traumatic ordeal.

After a series of unfortunate events, he was captured but somehow managed to escape, only to be blasted off the impregnable wall by a flaming arrow.

Traversing the wilderness without a hand, food and water he somehow survived long enough to make it to the desecrated mountain while being hunted by a group of trackers led by the persistent blind lieutenant.

Stumbling upon the remains of Moses, he received his divine powers and for the first time in a long time, he felt in control of his life. With that power, he managed to annihilate all his pursuers from the face of the earth, earning himself a new mission in the process.

Traversing back south to rescue his family from the jaws of the three kings, he undeservedly lost a rucksack full of venison to scavenging foxes. How sad. And then hours later, he almost drowned in the great Euphrates river.

After all that, he was still falling short of his goal. He was so close yet so far.

His emotions swirled and coursed rapidly through his veins with enough outburst to force a cock out of a champagne bottle. It was like a dark smoke was billowing from the mouth of a volcanic mountain. A mass of ashes and gasses escaping the agape mouth of the volcanic lake of fire, threatening an ominous and menacing eruption.

Immediately something in him surged with overflowing power and suddenly the air shifted.

The green foliage of leaves grew more radiant and joyful, dancing and waving under the beautiful light of the morning sun. Their shiny skin more translucent than the thinnest of papers.

The soil brightened up as ominous shadows were repelled farther away from Kodesh.

The trees tossed in the frenzied lashing of the wind that had suddenly befallen the hillside like they were bowing in reverence.

The green grass was on its knees, bowing low as a powerful gush of wind inclined them towards Kodesh like he held some kind of authority over them.

His golden yellow eyes were beaming with intense glowing rays of bright otherworldly light.

Immediately an outburst of power surged through his body and renewed strength coursed through his veins. He had a momentary surge of power charged by strong and fervent emotions.

He was not in spiritual form so the power was only going to last him a few moments and with that kind of power, he could also roll the boulder sealing the tomb of Samson.

So time was of the essence. He had to take out his enemies as swift as possible before his power drains out. That was the only way to keep his mission to save his family alive.

Summoning the long bow of the correlation of bright stars, the magestic white bone with golden inscriptions appeared before him. In the next moment, he drew inspiration and released perfection, striking the mace user with the ghostly arrow of the Orion.

In the next moment a short and stocky man wielding a war hammer made a run for it, he was beefy and stocky like the head of his hammer so he was not as swift as the slender arrow. Immediately, the ghostly arrow of the correlation of bright stars struck the back of his armor, killing him instantly.

Without wasting time he leapt up the sky leaving a shockwave and a small crater and a cloud of dust forming beneath his feet.

Landing smoothly on top of a hill, Kodesh glanced towards the west. Four leather armored warriors were pelting towards the city, their back against him.

They were some distance away, running with all the strength they could muster but not too far for the divine bow of the Orion.

'They can run but they can't hide.' He thought as he was pulling the heavy bow beyond its resistance.

Soon as the ghostly arrow formed, he fired it towards them at harrowing speeds and terrifying precision.

His surging strength had given him the power to pull the bow almost a quarter of its full length so it's momentum was greatly enhanced.

In the next moment, one of the men was struck at the back of his head, sending him crashing face down to the ground.

Unleashing one arrow after another, the men fell one after the other at the wake of the relentless and deadly air strikes.

A few seconds later, Kodesh was descending down the hill, making his way towards the ancient tomb of Samson.

The colossal boulder was carved from a single rock that could have been a small hill itself. It was humongous and resisting like it had stone roots spanning towards the center of the earth.

Without time to spare, Kodesh laid his palms over massive boulder and began pushing the small hill with all his might. Rallying strength from deep within he pushed and pushed and pushed still. But even then, he still couldn't convince the boulder.

Tightening his grip, all of Kodesh's muscles fired in unison, trying to reason with the heavy rock. He focused on the strength of his weighty hand and pushed and pushed as a groan escaped his mouth.

In the next moment, the boulder budged ever so slightly but immediately began threatening to retreat back.

Not allowing the boulder to roll backwards, he pivoted his feet firmly on the ground and pushed as hard as he could. His facial muscles tensing while his hands ached to let go of the cold stone.

A few torturous moments later the boulder finally rolled, creating an opening small enough for Kodesh's small body to squeeze in.
