Chapter 7 - Introductory Class

I see the same "guard" from the ceremony enter through the sliding door of the classroom, walking upright and confident. All the students pay attention to that person, recognizing him as the authority of the place.

"What's going on, is that guy an instructor?"

The guy takes a small glance around the room as he settles himself at the desk. At that moment, our gazes cross. He just smiles slightly, places his beret on the table and starts talking with a calm aura.

— So you're all the idiots who walked into this class.

All the students tense up more and more as he speaks.

— I introduce myself to you: I am Sergeant Alexander, and as of today, until you finish your three years here, I will be your designated teacher. If no one has any doubts, I will begin with the introduction.

At that moment the voice of a boy is heard from the side of the room, who gets up from his chair.

— Excuse me, but aren't we supposed to have a real teacher in charge of the class?

Alexander looks at the boy and replies calmly.

— And what makes you think guys like you deserve a "teacher"? For the directors, you are only here to aggrandize the ego of the upper classes. Haven't you noticed? You're in class F, the worst class in this school.

After hearing that answer, the boy sits down in grief.

— Listen everyone, I will start the introductory class with the class system. This academy has six classes, from F to A, the latter being the best. The closer you are to class A, the more privileges you get, both as individuals and as a group.

"So for that reason they let me enroll in this academy. It makes sense, since my sister belongs to the A class. I guess it's no problem for the leaders for me to stay here, as long as my sister is next to me."

— Professor, how does the school know which class to put you in? What are their criteria? -asks a boy.

— The school places you in each class according to your aptitude and potential with the 'System'. The System is what many of you know as magic, and it can be used in different ways. So, they place the prodigies, the strongest and most skilled, in class A, while garbage like you are placed in class F. These criteria are based on the entrance exam you all took.

"So what I thought was magic is called a System. I remember taking the test with my sister. Most of the tests were physical. Obviously, I didn't pass any of them."

— That said, there are cases where classes are promoted and take the place of another. This is done to increase internal competitiveness and exploit the potential of the students, but no one in the F class has achieved any memorable feats. Still, I must train them to be minimally capable of surviving and being used as mere decoys in fights against dragons. I will only train those who really want to excel and become better. I also have the authority to expel them from the academy. If anyone falters, I will expel them without hesitation. Does anyone have any doubts?

Gisei gets up from his seat to say something.

— Professor, how does a class get promoted? -she asks nervously.

(Professor Alexander smiles).

— Very good question, brat. What is your name?

— My name is Akiyama Gisei, sir.

— You may sit down, Akiyama brat. Listen up everyone: the way you can promote your class is by dethroning a higher class in the mid-year competition, called Sigma. There are several parameters that can propel you to a higher class, for example, in a hunting competition. But for this, the teacher in charge must train them to become stronger.

"So their upgrade system is highly competitive. It's crazy to think that any class can take away the status of another. After all, it's abysmal the difference between people who can use the System and those of us who can't."

— If no one has another doubt, I will continue. In this school, unregistered fights are forbidden; you cannot fight without submitting an application. I must also tell you that different races study here. For some, they will be new faces, and others may already know some of these breeds, but discrimination is prohibited. Inclusion and competitiveness are encouraged here. As a word of advice, I say don't mess with anyone from classes above C. Most of them are nobles or royalty, so you should be careful who you deal with.

— Classes will formally begin the day after tomorrow. If you still want to be here, I'll be waiting for you. You are dismissed.

After giving us the introductory lecture, Alexander leaves the room.

"Everyone still seems to be tense. That Alexander guy had a bad vibe. I guess they're not used to bad treatment."

— Aaaahhh!

I hear a cry of relief from Gisei.

— The teacher is gone. Everything got so tense, don't you think so, Hikaru?

— Yeah, sure, I guess," I answer nonchalantly.

— But you don't seem tense. Do you have nerves of steel? Hahaha. I guess we have to go now. Which section are your dormitories in, Hikaru?

— In the south section, why do you ask?

— What a coincidence. My dorms are also in the south section. Shall we go together, or do you have other things to do?

— I really can't. I have to wait for my sister. We agreed to meet after class.

— Oh, so you have a sister. In that case, I won't stop you. I'll be going now. See you, Hikaru.

Gisei heads to the exit to go on her way, while I'm still sitting.

"She really isn't a bad person. Maybe he wanted us to go together to apologize again. Anyway, I'm leaving now".
