Chereads / Squid's Harem / Chapter 3 - Gai Luo

Chapter 3 - Gai Luo

"Let's talk inside." Ye Xin opened the door fully and looked at the squid, and to his surprise, the squid understood his sign and disappeared into his body.

Gai Luo looked at the squid disappearing and a flash of excitement appeared on his face, however soon his excitement turned sour and he looked at Ye Xin with pity on his face.

"Why have you done something so stupid? Don't you know that wild beasts are harder to control than Cultivated Beasts? And in most of the cases, they are also weaker! That beast could turn on you anytime!" Gai Luo said with a slightly worried tone.

Ye Xin heard his words and let out a sigh. He knew all this, however, he had only come to know that he had contracted the squid no later than Gai Luo.

He turned silent for a few minutes and then let out another breath of disappointment. "I know Gai Luo, but I had no choice, I don't have enough money to buy a cultivated beast from the capital." Ye Xin said.

He was telling the truth, he truly didn't have enough money on him to buy a cultivated beast spot in the capital. He was relying on Gai Luo's father for the taming ceremony. However, now he has contracted a beast he can't do anything now.

"I told you before that my father would pay the fees!" Gai Luo looked at Ye Xin with an angry expression on his face.

Ye Xin sighed again. "I know that, but I can't take such a big amount of money from you. Your family has already done so much for me." He said.

"You! You think so little of us?!" What's money between brothers?" Gai Luo said while gritting his teeth.

Ye Xin heard his words and a warm expression appeared on his face. Gai Luo was his true friend and he has helped him at every turn.

He was truly grateful for having such a friend.

"It's already done, so there is no need to cry over split milk. You know that one can contract only one beast in their lifetime and once the contract is formed they also can't change it, and by the way, this wild one is not that bad." Ye Xin said with a smile.

But internally he was cursing his luck. He didn't know that the squid he ate was now contracted to him. He knew the fact that wild beasts were extremely unreliable and could turn on their tamer and kill them.

Wild beasts were also generally weaker than the ones cultivated by the capital. That was the reason why most people preferred contracting cultivated beasts, only the people who didn't have enough money to buy a spot in the Beast Taming Ceremony Organized by the capital, tried to tame wild beasts.

He wanted to tell Gai Luo that this beast got forcefully tamed by him, but he never intended to do so. However, seeing the strangeness of the situation he preferred to stay quiet.

As it was impossible that no one would notice a giant crater out of nowhere. If some powerful beast tamer got to know about it and tried to search for the squid, then not only Ye Xin but also Gai Luo and his family would also be implicated in it.

"Hmph! I will tell Dad about this, I am sure that he will berate you." Gai Luo snorted and stood up from the bed.

Ye Xin sighed at his words and stayed silent. He didn't know what to say.

After a brief moment of silence, Gai Luo spoke again. His tone was filled with fear. "Did you know that Spirit Masters arrived from the Capital this morning?" He said in a hushed voice.

Ye Xin's heart skipped a beat at Gai Luo's words. He knew spirit masters.

Beast Tamers were divided into many realms, being Apprentice Masters, Beast Masters, Grand Tamers, Spirit Masters and at last King Tamers.

Each of these realms was divided into nine stages, from one to nine. One being the lowest and nine being the highest. It would be extremely difficult for a stage one to beat a stage nine. Each stage breaks a small bottleneck and each realm breaks a big bottleneck. So defeating with a stage gap is easy but defeating with a realm gap is almost impossible.

Ye Xin could guess why the spirit masters were here.

'It should be because of the crater that appeared in the wilderness. It's good that I didn't tell about it to Gai Luo.' Ye Xin thought and took in a deep breath.

Although he trusted Gai Luo, it was for his own good that he kept the squid and the crater a secret. As it may lead to problems for both him and Gai Luo.

"Why do you think they are here?" Ye Xin asked with a curious look on his face as he looked at Gai Luo.

Gai Luo looked back at him with a confused expression. "I thought you would know." He said.

Ye Xin listened to him and panicked inside. However, maintained a calm expression on his face. "Me? How would I know?" He asked.

"Didn't you visit the wilderness yesterday? I assumed you got this squid from there." Gai Luo said.

A frown appeared on Ye Xin's face. "Yes? So what? Don't tell me that they came here for this squid." He raised his brows. He was acting.

Gai Luo chucked at his words. "No, you fool. You didn't notice the big crater that appeared in the forest?" He asked.

"Crater?" Ye Xin showed an even more confused expression. Internally his heart was beating at a rapid pace.

Gai Luo turned silent at his words for a few seconds and then let out a breath. "So you didn't see the crater, thank god. Yesterday a big crater suddenly appeared in the nearby wilderness, and what's the most shocking thing was that no one noticed the impact in the village."

"How big of a crater?" Ye Xin asked.

"It was big. I think it was because of the falling star you were running after. It's good that you were distracted by the squid or you might have died because of the explosion." Gai Luo said with a relieved expression on his face.

"Really! We should go and check it out!" An excited expression appeared on Ye Xin's face as he acted some more. He was acting to remove all the doubt from Gai Luo that he was connected with the crater somehow.

"No, you stupid! Didn't you hear what I just said?! Spirit masters are investigating the odd event, it would be better if we stayed out of the wilderness till they are gone." Gai Luo said with an annoyed expression on his face.

Ye Xin heard his words and a disappointed expression appeared on his face. And then he dejectedly shook his head.

"Why are you all sad?! Haven't you heard the saying that curiosity killed the cat? This curiosity of yours will land you in trouble one day! Hmph!" Gai Luo snorted. "By the way I had good news to tell you, but since you already got a beast, it's no longer useful to you." He said and sighed.

Ye Xin heard his words and nodded.

Seeing that Ye Xin was not interested in the news, Gai Luo coughed. "I am gonna tell you anyway."

Ye Xin nodded again.

Seeing the nonchalant expression on his face Gai Luo got annoyed. "At least show some interest! You are always curious about the stupid things but when it comes to important matters you turn dumb!" Gai Luo said with his face turning red in annoyance.

Ye Xin chuckled at his words. "Ok, go ahead and tell me."

"Hmm... Now that's more like it. One of the spirit masters that came here was also the one responsible for the Taming Ceremony in the capital. And since he would be here for some time, this time beast taming ceremony would be held in our village." With each word, Gai Luo got more and more excited.

Even Ye Xin was shocked a bit, this was a small village. For this year's beast-taming ceremony to be held here would bring a lot of profit to the villagers.

"Although you have already tamed a beast, there is also good news for you, the capital examination for the Taming Sects will also be held in the village. The examination fees for the villagers are waived by the village chief. So you can take the exam for free." Gai Luo said and chuckled.

Ye Xin's eyes widened at Gai Luo's words, he knew about the Capital Examination. It was a test for the new talents and if one showed good results in the exams they could get admission to a taming sect.

Taming Sects were important for the growth of a beast tamer as sects provided a better environment and resources for the growth of a beast tamer.
