Chapter 30 - Chapter 30 Rude And Condescending? Needs To Be Taught A Lesson

Kelsie was about to dial the house line when she heard the man and hurriedly slipped her phone into her pocket then turned around to apologize to him.

"My apologies, sir."

But the words had just rolled off her tongue when the elderly man suddenly froze like he had seen a ghost.

The next second, a wide grin broke out on his face and he couldn't contain his excitement.

Kelsie was taken aback.

She glanced behind her to know if there was someone standing there.

When she didn't see anyone, she turned back to him and pointed a finger at herself, her brows creasing in confusion.

"Is there something on my face, sir?"

He held his chest and laughed out happily.

"It's you from yesterday, isn't it?"

Kelsie's confusion deepened.

Seeing this, Jack Adler walked up to her and beamed happily.

"Don't you remember me? I'm the old man you saved his life yesterday morning. I was plucking strawberries when I suddenly collapsed and almost drowned, but you were there to help me."

Only then did she recall where she had seen him before.

She hadn't taken a careful look at his face yesterday as she had been too busy trying to make sure he stayed alive.

She returned his smile and asked naturally, "Is that so? I'm glad to know that you're fine now. I hope the hospital did a thorough checkup on you?"

Jack nodded seriously, taking in her labcoat.

She was a doctor. No wonder she was able to save his life yesterday.

He knew meeting her wasn't just a mere coincidence.

The universe must've taken pity on him and his workaholic grandson and sent a doctor their way.

The universe was really trying to send him a clear message. He would be a fool to ignore it.

With that thought in mind, he took a step closer to his future granddaughter-in-law.

"Yesterday, I didn't have the chance to thank you. This grateful old man in front of you is named…"

He was suddenly cut off when Callum Shaw rushed up to her.

"So this is where you are. I've been looking everywhere for you."

"What?" She turned to him and blurted out in surprise.

Callum smiled faintly. "There's an update. A goodnews."

Whilst they had this short conversation, Jack Adler's eyes fell slightly when he saw the glittering wedding ring on Callum's fourth finger.

At the same time, Kelsie hastily bade Jack goodbye without noticing his bright eyes had dimmed significantly.

As soon as she left with Callum, the door to the ward opened and Selene Arthur walked out with a bodyguard trailing behind her carrying a mini suitcase.

She walked up to him and slapped him feebly on the shoulder as she rebuked him, "What took you so long? I was beginning to think you collapsed somewhere!"

Jack's eyes fell and he sighed deeply.

"It seems our grandson is truly unlucky. Just when I found the perfect person for him, she turned out to be married."

"She was so excited to see him that she rushed off with him without realizing there was someone standing in front of her."

Selene followed his eyes and also stared at the direction Kelsie and Callum had gone in.

Then she patted him gently on the back.

As his wife and the only one who had been with him for the past twenty-four hours, Jack wouldn't stop talking about the woman who saved his life.

He spoke about her so much that she was even looking forward to having her as a granddaughter-in-law even though she was yet to meet her.

She parted her lips and was about to console him when he suddenly thought of something and his eyes lit up again.

"But people get divorced every time. I should've asked for her name so I can keep an eye on when she'll divorce her husband."

At this, Selene gave him a very worried stare and almost slapped him.

"Honey, you feel and look fine. But there seems to be something wrong with your brain. Could it be you hit your head somwhere as you fell into the water yesterday?"

Jack, who had not yet understood what she was trying to say, touched his forehead and shook it gently.

"I'm totally fine. The hospital ran a full checkup on me, including a brain scan."

The elderly woman immediately scoffed lightly.

"Is that so? Then why would you say such nonsense?"

Jack pressed his lips into a thin line and waved his hand at her as he began walking away hurriedly.

"I'm just being optimistic! You never know what the future holds. Better late than never."

She caught up with him and held his hand in hers.

"Honey, you didn't sleep very well last night. Must be the lack of sleep talking. When we get home, make sure to go straight to bed."

"Because it makes no sense that you're really thinking of letting our precious grandson who isn't lacking in any way marry a divorced woman!"

As Jack and Selene argued about this, Kelsie was frowning hard in the laboratory.

"So someone made a breakthrough and the laboratory will be taken somewhere else?"

Callum Shaw nodded.

"Exactly. Apparently, this other sponsor we have has had a team of other researchers and scientists also try to produce the drug and they were able to make a breakthrough."

"So he built another building that will be large enough to contain all of us as we work with those people to continue advancing the drug."

Kelsie slipped her hands into her pocket and exhaled softly.

"Doesn't that also mean the sponsoring amount will increase?"

He nodded again. "Yes. A 200 percent increase. With the addition of new workers and other materials, it isn't surprising. But as I said yesterday, you don't have to…"

She abruptly cut him off and began walking away.

"Have a good night, Dr. Shaw."

She branched into the first cybercafe she saw on her way home and called the house landline.

The usual ten seconds she had to wait for them to pick up was slashed into half the very next second as Zade's contemplative voice came up.

"Mommy?"

She smiled faintly and took the phone to her lips.

"Zade, are Jesse and Keira awake?"

Almost immediately, Jesse's voice came up.

"It's barely 4pm, mommy. Why won't i be awake?"

"I'm awake too, mommy!" Keira half-shouted.

Kelsie's free hand ran across the keyboard of the computer as she turned it on and typed in codes.

Despite typing so fast, she didn't forget she was on a call with her children.

"Keira, would you like to tour Silicone Valley today?"

The words were yet out of her mouth when Keira's excited voice sounded from the other end.

"Yes, yes, yes! The people in my game say Silicon Valley is a beautiful place."

Kelsie glanced at the time on her wristwatch and hummed.

"Mommy will be back in less than an hour."

A series of 'okay' came almost immediately before she ended the call.

She then logged into her crypto app and exchanged what she had there into the country's currency.

Money.

She needed money to pay for the research. Initially, she didn't worry about it because she had three years worth of the research amount kept aside.

But with this sudden increase, she barely had enough to cover this year's.

Jett Adler's words to her in the elevator yesterday suddenly came flooding back.

At the end of the two minutes she spent thinking, she came to a conclusion.

He was already so rude and condescending and naturally deserves to be taught a lesson.

Since he was obviously not going to offer her an apology for talking to her so rudely yesterday, she might as well take her apology in hard currency.

Meanwhile, the man had just woken up from sleep after being knocked out by the drug yesterday and felt his phone buzz on his bedside table.

He picked it up and instantly sat up when he saw the alert that he had just withdrawn a few bitcoins.
