Chapter 9 - Benefactor Of The Griffith Empire

Lord Ross and Damon walked out of the building and into the fields behind the Ross family castle. This property was built on vast land, at least a quarter the size of the entire village. If more of this land was donated to the village, it wouldn't feel so crampy.

"Tell me what you understand about life." Lord Ross requested in a calm tone.

"I believe the world is an ever evolving entity. The moment we stop improving, we are lost behind." Damon gave his honest opinion.

In his past lives, he and the other New God's held themselves back because of the people they were meant to protect. In different lives, they were killed by the very people they were trying to save.

Only after his last reincarnation did he realize how stupid it was trying to save people that didn't even know they were in danger. Right now, Damon was determined to return to the heavens again, but this time even if it meant wiping out all living things and sparing only a pair that will repopulate the earth, he would do it.

"My family failed to evolve. Centuries ago, when the foundations of this empire were built, my family fought side by side with the royal family. We were their sharpest blade and cut down a lot of enemies. Yet we were discarded without a second thought the moment we turned blunt." Lord Ross sighed bitterly.

Damon's words hit the spot and reminded him of his family history and how they had fallen from glory.

What Lord Ross didn't know was that Damon met the founding families of this planet and was the pioneer force that laid the foundations of this empire. Yet, these same people turned their back on him and killed him.

For these people he felt no pity or grudge, just indifference.

"There was a time when fighters ruled the battlefield. Martial families like the Ross family stood at the peak of this empire and were once mighty Duke's. Then that age passed and the age of the Magus arrived. Generation after generation the Ross family failed to provide offspring with a talent for magic and with time their status began to drop. Now, the once mighty family has been reduced to mere Barons, and even that position is threatened now." Damon said with a strange glint in his eyes.

His words caused Lord Ross to shudder and look Damon in the eye. The history of the Ross family is long forgotten, and even many noble families have forgotten they were once Dukes.

How can this child who was only seventeen know the history of the Ross family?

This was extremely shocking since Damon was supposedly bedridden for the past fifteen years and has lived all his life in that small village. He shouldn't even know how to read, talk more about having access to historical archives.

Thud!

Lord Ross halted in his tracks and watched Damon keep walking as if he didn't notice anything.

"Who are you and how do you know all of this?" Lord Ross couldn't help but ask.

Something about Damon just felt different. His heart kept throbbing dangerously as mixed feelings of fear, hope and pain welled up in him.

Damon casually stopped in his tracks and turned to meet Lord Ross's gaze. A small smile spread across his face, and he responded with a question of his own.

"What do you know about the Human Emperor's master?" Damon asked.

Buzz!

Lord Ross felt his legs lose their strength, almost causing him to fall. With great effort, he regained his balance, but the shock on his face was still too fresh.

The title Human Emperor was given to the man who gathered the human race and fought to save them from extinction at the hands of a coalition force of the other races.

The man was said to be a peerless genius, but what people didn't know was this man had a master, someone he bowed to and showed deep respect.

Lord Ross only knew about this because his family were the pioneer Duke family of the Griffith Empire. How could this boy know of such a legendary figure?

"He was a great magus who dabbled with dark magic and necromancy. He eventually got corrupted by the evil magic he practiced and lost his sanity. To protect the human race from the threat of such a powerful being, the human emperor was forced to turn on his master and lead an army against him." Lord Ross answered while wondering why he was answering these peasant's questions and not the one asking.

"Is that what they told you about me?" Damon chuckled lightly at the silly story made up to defame his character and justify his death.

Buzz!

Damon's words knocked Lord Ross off his feet, causing him to fall on his butt. His eyes widened with shock as he tried his best to make sense of such bold declarations.

If it were anyone else, he would have executed the person on the spot, but since it's Damon, he felt it was true.

But how could that man be alive in the body of this child?

Is that even possible?

It has already been close to a millennium now!

Wait… Didn't the Human Emperor's master practice dark magic and even necromancy?

Doesn't that mean it is possible the man found a way to preserve his soul?

"A-are you really this g-geat empire's b-benefactor?" Lord Ross stuttered those words.

Damon could only smile at the man and walk toward his fallen figure.

"If I tell you I am him, would you believe me?" Damon asked while looking deep into Lord Ross's eyes.

The middle-aged nobleman was left speechless and could only nod in agreement. No one was bold enough to impersonate the great Human Emperor, talk more of his master. If this kid claims he is that man, then he must be telling the truth!
