Chapter 10 - The Devil Giveth... The Devil Taketh.

"Good." Damon chuckled and extended his hand to the fallen Lord Ross.

Lord Ross hesitated initially but took Damon's hand eventually and rose to his feet. The look in his eyes had completely changed now he had an idea who this kid was.

"Now you know who I am, I am sure you know my value." Damon said, and Lord Ross instinctively nodded.

"Forgive me for not recognizing you, Lord Benefactor." Lord Ross bowed respectfully before he continued his speech.

"Now I am aware of your identity, what does that mean for the Ross family?" Lord Ross couldn't help but ask.

"I am no longer the benefactor of this cursed empire. As for the Ross family, I offer you something that no one else can give… Griffith Empire." Damon said, causing Lord Ross to shiver.

The aging man grabbed his chest and tried to regulate his breathing. After getting shocked constantly by Damon, this man was afraid he may have a stroke.

The weight of Damon's words was too heavy and leaned towards treason. This was something that made Lord Ross deeply uncomfortable.

By the way, even if Damon was the empire's benefactor a millennium ago it didn't mean much now he was just a powerless child. How could someone this weak give the Empire to the Ross family?

"I have achieved greatness before. I am familiar with that path, so it isn't difficult to achieve it again." Damon said the moment he sensed the doubt in Lord Ross.

Saying this, Damon turned around and began walking away. Lord Ross needed a few seconds to organize his thoughts before chasing after the little boy.

Guards' positions at strategic points in the Ross family home were confused. They couldn't hear what Damon and Lord Ross were saying but seeing the man act shocked, fall over, bow, and chase after this kid left them confused.

Was this child a member of a high-ranking noble family disguised as a peasant?

Only a higher noble family can make Lord Ross this anxious and jumpy.

"Can I understand how you plan to give the Ross family the empire?" Lord Ross asked politely as soon as he caught up with Damon.

Damon chuckled when he heard this and shot Lord Ross a questioning glance.

"Are you doubting the capabilities of this old man?" Damon asked with a raised eyebrow.

"No, no, Not at all! This ignorant Patriarch of an insignificant family is simply curious. We have heard miraculous stories of the empire's benefactors, but we have no knowledge of your capabilities." Lord Ross responded quickly with a weary smile.

{Does everyone in this Empire lick ass?} The voice was stunned by the abrupt change in attitude from Lord Ross after learning Damon's identity.

'I must confess the Ross family Patriarch is skilled at ass licking, but he is still lacking when compared to your dad.' Damon responded.

{Fuck you.} The voice cursed.

"Very well." Damon nodded at Lord Ross's words, ignoring the voice's curses.

Seeing Damon wasn't annoyed, Lord Ross inwardly heaved a sigh of relief.

"The first step is fixing the problem that has plagued the Ross family for close to a millennium. I will start by fixing your son's blocked magic core…" Damon said, leaving Lord Ross flabbergasted.

"Is that even possible?" Lord Ross blurted out in shock.

"I did it for this body, I can do the same for your son. He will have a functioning magic core before his eighteenth birthday." Damon assured, leaving Lord Ross restless.

The excitement on his face couldn't be hidden. If what this boy says is true, then the problem of the Ross family has been resolved!

This was also good because it meant they had a time frame in which they could determine whether Damon was a fraud or the real deal.

"If you can do this, my family will be indebted to you forever." Lord Ross said emotionally.

The sincerity behind his words would have been enough to move anyone, but Damon couldn't care less about this man's gratitude.

"You won't be indebted to me because by then it means your family will be mine." Damon responded with a strange look. Lord Ross felt like an owl was glaring at him.

"W-what do you mean?" Lord Ross muttered.

"If I can change your son's fate, it means I can change the fate of the Ross family. This will serve as proof of my identity." Damon explained.

"I will give your family magic and make you the next Emperor of the Griffith empire. Don't you think I deserve something in return?" Damon asked with a devilish grin.

The devil gives, and the devil takes, this was a law everyone who has come across him understood over time.

Nothing is free in this world.

"I know, but taking my family?" Lord Ross was reluctant.

The purpose of nobility is to preserve the bloodline of an ancient family. If Damon takes over the Ross family, it is as good as tainting the bloodline he is trying to preserve.

The Ross family must be led by someone with the Ross bloodline.

"You will follow me and the Ross family will follow you. The same will happen after I make you Emperor. You will follow me and the empire will follow you. I never had the intention of standing in the limelight, so you don't have to worry about the purity of your little family." Damon understood the reason for his hesitation.

"I-I see." Lord Ross muttered.

He thought he had to gather his entire family and explain why everyone should follow the orders of a fifteen-year-old peasant.

"If you agree with this, then how about a blood pact? Only then can we truly trust each other to keep their end of the bargain." Damon suggested, but his words left Lord Ross stunned.

In just a few minutes spent with Damon, Lord Ross had been stunned more times than he had been stunned in his entire life.

"Well then, lead the way to somewhere secluded and have your little spy mage tag along too. I will need her help casting the spell." Damon said.
