Chapter 12 - Joining The Ross Family

With the contract signed, Damon had nothing else to worry about. As for the magus he killed, Lord Ross was bound to get over it eventually. The lady was only an adept mage at best so she really didn't have much value.

All higher noble families wouldn't even consider hiring her. If it wasn't for the Ross family situation, she wouldn't be amongst the normal guards.

In the contract, Damon had two tasks to fulfill. The first was to fix Lord Ross's son's magic core, and the second was to make the Ross family the next royal family.

Using accumulate, Damon could replicate the benefits he gained in this new body for Lord Ross's son. In a few months, they were bound to see reasonable progress.

Once he succeeds, Lord Ross's son will attend the magic academy. Under Damon's guidance and teachings, he was bound to become a decent magus.

As for Damon, he didn't plan to join the magic academy. Instead, he was more interested in becoming a magic knight.

Like he told Lord Ross before, eras come to an end, and they were nearing the end of the Magus era. Right now, powerful fighters who can complement their fighting skills with magic are greatly valued.

It was a new discovery and only a few had what it takes to become a magic knight.

Magic knights focused on supplementary spells that improved their physicality. These people were the future of the world right now but many were yet to see it.

The same way the Ross family failed to see the age of magic.

With the contract signed, Damon's parents were moved out of the village and into the Ross family home. To Lord Ross's greatest surprise, Damon did not insist they move into the mansion, rather he asked them to move to one of the smaller buildings for slaves.

It was much better than their home back in the village, but it would also keep them away from all the drama that was about to take place.

The Ross family was an extended family and had close to thirty members, so any drastic changes were bound to be met with resistance. This rigidity was one of the main reasons for its fall because it prevented adaptability to change.

A noble family with such a reputable history would reject the idea of adopting a peasant even if it was for the sake of their family. Such rigid-minded people were the reason Damon requested a contract.

Without it, Lord Ross would eventually be swayed by their complaints.

Damon's family made it to the Ross family castle and Lord Ross called together the Ross family to introduce the new members of the family but apart from his son, no one showed up.

After eating dinner with Damon's family and explaining the situation about Damon's adoption, they left the castle for their new home to sleep while Damon stayed back.

For the voice's sake, he would go and visit his parents once a day but outside that, he planned to remain in the castle. The first few days were relatively peaceful because the other members of the Ross family just acted like he didn't exist.

Damon got occasional flashes of disgusting looks whenever he crossed paths with any of them, but he didn't mind. Most of his time was spent within the safety of his rooms, so he had nothing to worry about.

Damon spent two hours with Cedric Ross, using accumulation and what is referred to as negative magic. This was a magic trick used amongst new gods to jest and have fun.

Negative magic worked by reading the incantations of a spell backward, twisting the flow of the spell. By using negative magic on the soul eater spell, instead of stealing energy from Cedric, he was the one giving out energy.

By using accumulation constantly, Damon fed Cedric's body and core with world mana, improving his overall physique as well.

Once he was done with Cedric, Damon focused on improving his core using accumulation. The Ross family was only a baron-class noble family and had extremely limited resources. Damon ordered all the resources they could acquire to be used on Cedric.

He had the world energy at his disposal so it was best these little things were used on Cedric.

This decision improved his relationship with Lord Ross, but this didn't matter much to Damon since he had the contract binding them together already. Whether Lord Ross liked him or not, he had no choice but to work with Damon.

For the next three months, Damon continued his daily routine and got accustomed to this life. During this time, Lord Ross had found a replacement for the Ross family mage, Blink.

While the boy was only a novice mage and even much weaker than the previous one, Damon asked Lord Ross to hire him. Of course, the news didn't go well and as usual, there was a massive fight, but Damon had gotten used to it.

No matter how much these people rejected Lord Ross's ideas they couldn't do a thing about it. As long as Damon asked to do it, he would do it.

His reason for picking Blink was not due to skill, but potential.

In the human empire, mages were distributed amongst five ranks.

Novar (Novice Magus)

Adeptus (Adept Magus)

Arcanist (Advanced Magus)

Magister (Master Magus)

 Archon (Supreme Magus)

The entire human empire has approximately ten thousand mages at best and gained roughly about three hundred every year. The lady Lord Ross once hired was an Adeptus and this boy was a mere Novar.

The ranking of a mage was done based on the complexity of their spell-casting ability. The higher the spell tiers they cast are, the higher their ranking.

Cores just determined the rate at which a person grew and their overall potential.

While brown core and the Adeptus rank were probably his limit, he had something unique.

He had an affinity to one of the four legendary cosmic spirit magic.
