Chapter 11 - Importance Of Sacrifice

After the formation of the Griffith empire, the human emperor and other emperors turned on the new gods and helped them build the foundations of their empires.

A jaw-dropping coalition force was formed and for the first time the world was united but against the wrong targets.

Damon and the other New Gods lost their lives in that battle. Õnis accumulated energy and attempted to reincarnate them five hundred years ago.

Born as children, they possessed traits that made them stand out. It wasn't long before the church heard of them and slaughtered them before they turned three.

To overcome this problem, the Õnis took a different approach after accumulating enough energy for another reincarnation. Instead of allowing the new gods to be born into the world like every other being, their souls were put into a state of slumber.

Their hibernating souls were then hidden inside the bodies of newborns. These hosts would suffer from the side effects of hosting a God's soul in a mortal body for sixteen years of their lives.

On their sixteenth birthday, they were bound to die, and their souls were used as nourishment for the awakening of God souls.

In this new life, what Damon needed the most was a safe environment to grow. Lord Ross could offer this, so Damon needed them just as much as they needed him.

Following Lord Ross, they reached a lonely part of the enormous compound. Damon glanced around and nodded when he confirmed they were alone.

The tan-skinned lady stood by the corner, observing Damon's actions. She watched as he took a dagger from Lord Ross and walked some distance away.

"What are the terms of this contract you spoke of and how do you do it?" Lord Ross asked.

"I will activate your son's magic core and make the Ross family the next royal family of the Griffith empire. In exchange, I will become the Ross family benefactor, and you must obey my orders without question. Finally, my host's family will be moved here and allowed to live a good and quiet life as adopted members of the Ross family." Damon explained while he inspected the surrounding ground.

Unsheathing the dagger, Damon slit his palm open and his eyes revealed a blood-red flash.

"Vir." Damon muttered under his breath and the blood flow from his wound increased.

"Blood magic!" The tan-skinned lady gasped.

"Relax, it's just tier 0 blood magic." Damon shrugged.

Damon guided the flowing blood as he began drawing a symbol on the ground with it.

"How can a child from a little village know this much about magic?" The lady asked with a deep frown.

Every action this boy made was confusing and considering he had no background, she couldn't understand his actions.

"You are just a weak mage hired by a dying noble family. How can you know the secrets of the universe?" Damon shook off her words with a mocking chuckle.

He ignored the lady's words and focused on finishing the ring of runes. Lord Ross and the lady could not help but pay close attention as the seventeen-year-old boy drew the most complex magic circle they had ever seen.

Damon beaconed the lady to come over, and she seemed to hesitate. Lord Ross calmly nodded at the lady and she approached.

Damon took her palm and cut it open with the dagger. He led her to the center circle and held her bloody palm with his bloody palm.

"By the breath of life and shadow's claim,

Let thy essence now be drained,

From thy veins to mine own core,

I take what's thine forevermore."

"Soul Eater!" Damon's eyes revealed a red flash and a cruel grin spread across his face.

Buzz!

The lady noticed something was wrong and tried to pull away, but she couldn't break free from his grip. This shocked them because she easily towered over Damon.

"What are you doing?" She yelled as she noticed the blood flowing from their palms formed binding runes, binding their hands together.

The lady's veins bulged, and bright red light could be seen in them. Lord Ross watched in horror as the blood-red light flowed from the lady to Damon.

The lady's skin became drier with each passing moment, while she began to shrivel. Meanwhile, Damon was bubbling with light, his skin showing more color.

The lady opened her lips, but she couldn't make a sound. She turned to Lord Ross with pleading eyes, but he was still confused by everything happening.

Bam!

Damon finally let go of the lady, and she fell to the ground. Her body was emaciated, detailing the structure of her bone. Most of her hair had fallen off and the little that remained had turned gray.

Lord Ross approached with a look of horror. He watched Damon casually dragging the corpse out of the circle as if it was nothing.

"In my current form, I don't have what it takes to cast the spell for the contract, so I needed some external juice to amplify my power. Thankfully, your little mage decided to follow us." Damon winked at Lord Ross as he walked back into the circle.

"You didn't have to kill her! There are others you could have used!" Lord Ross argued. He was pained by the death of his family's magus.

"But she is the one I chose. Nothing comes free in this life, so be prepared to lose more in order to protect the things you value the most." Damon rebuked Lord Ross.

Only a fool believes they can protect everything. It's all about priorities and decisiveness. We cannot always protect everything we have, but we can protect the most important ones at the expense of others.

Once a man understands this, they are bound to achieve greatness.

"Our fates entwined, by blood and vow, let our bond be unbroken. Spirit magic: Immortal Blood Pact." Damon muttered in hushed tones, and the runes on the ground lit up brightly.

Lord Ross staggered back as he noticed the ground twisting and turning unnaturally. Suddenly, the earth tore open and revealed a singular eye.

Brrrr!

A sphere of blood emerged from the eye and levitated high into the air. Damon reached into the blood sphere and retreated a parchment, neatly rolled and tied with a blood-red ribbon.

"What kind of magic is that?" Lord Ross asked.

Not only did this child kill his family's mage and the most important part of his security team, but he also performed a spell, unlike something he had never seen before.

Damon's spells felt ancient and unique. He was completely different from the modern-day magus.

"Spirit magic… It connects your will to the soil and your soul to Õnis. I'm sure it has been lost now amongst so many more ancient powers that have been lost to time." Damon said as he passed the scroll over to Lord Ross.

Lord Ross accepted the scroll and quickly went through it. As Damon had said earlier, it was a blood pact, with details of the conditions from both sides. The only thing he couldn't find was the punishment if a part went against the terms of the contract.

"What happens if a side defaults?" Lord Ross asked, but Damon simply pointed the edge of the dagger at him.

His blood was needed to sign the contract.

"Trust me when I say no side will be able to go back on their words once the agreement is made." Damon chuckled mischievously.
