Chapter 3: Shadows from the Past

Commissioner Rossi arrived at the archaeological excavation site in the afternoon. The place was a maze of trenches and tents, where archaeologists and students worked diligently. The air was permeated with a sense of tangible history.

Professor Giulio Moretti, the director of the excavations, welcomed him. "Commissioner, it's a pleasure to have you here. We've found extraordinary finds in the last few weeks."

Rossi briefly explained the reason for his visit, and Moretti led him to a section of the site where medieval artifacts had been discovered. "Here we found weapons, jewelry, and documents dating back to the thirteenth century."

While observing the finds, Rossi noticed a series of engravings on a stone. "What do these engravings represent?"

"They are heraldic symbols," Moretti replied. "They belonged to a local noble family, mysteriously disappeared."

The commissioner realized that those ancient symbols could be the key to understanding the murder. Perhaps the killer was trying to recreate a forgotten past.

Meanwhile, Inspector Conti arrived with further information. "Commissioner, I discovered that some stolen objects from a private collection may have ended up on the black market. Among them, a weapon similar to the one used in the crime."

Rossi reflected on this new lead. "We need to find out who bought those objects. It could lead us directly to the killer."

With the new insights, the commissioner returned to his office, determined to follow every clue. The connection between the crime and the past was slowly emerging, like a mosaic taking shape.

That night, Rossi sat at his desk. He knew that time was working against him, but he was determined to solve the mystery and stop the killer before they struck again.
