Chapter 5: The Circle Tightens
The days passed quickly, and Commissioner Rossi felt the weight of responsibility growing. Information kept coming in, but the killer always seemed one step ahead.
Finally, Inspector Conti entered the office with a promising lead. "Commissioner, we have a name. A local collector, Luca Bernardi, bought the weapon and other medieval objects."
Rossi immediately stood up. "Good, we need to interrogate him. He might know more than he thinks."
Along with Conti, Rossi went to Bernardi's villa. The man, a collector of art and historical artifacts, welcomed them with a nervous smile. "Commissioner, inspector, to what do I owe the visit?"
"We know you've recently purchased a medieval weapon. We have questions about that transaction," Rossi said, carefully observing Bernardi's reaction.
"Ah, yes, the weapon. A rare piece. But I know nothing about a murder," Bernardi responded, trying to remain calm.
"Who sold you the weapon?" Conti pressed.
"I don't know the name, only that he was very insistent on completing the deal quickly," Bernardi admitted, visibly uncomfortable.
Rossi sensed that Bernardi was hiding something. "If there are any other information, it's better to share it now."
Bernardi hesitated, then confessed. "There was a note with the weapon. It said something about 'ancient justice'."
That phrase struck Rossi. It was a crucial clue, confirming the killer's obsession with the past.
After thanking Bernardi, the commissioner and Conti returned to the office to analyze the new information. The circle was tightening, and Rossi knew that the truth was now within reach.
With renewed determination, he continued to connect the pieces of the puzzle. The hunt for the killer was in its final stages, and he was ready to close the case.
