Chapter 4: Fading Traces
Rossi woke up at dawn, his mind still crowded with the events of the previous day. The investigation was taking an unexpected turn, and every detail could make the difference.
In the office, he found Inspector Conti already at work. "Commissioner, I've contacted some informants on the black market. We're trying to trace the buyer of the weapon."
"Excellent, Marco. Continue down that path. We need a name," Rossi responded, appreciating the young inspector's initiative.
Meanwhile, Dr. Bianchi had further updates. "We've examined the artifacts from the archaeological site. Some symbols match those we found at the crime scene."
"Interesting," Rossi commented. "It could be a message or a warning."
With this information, the commissioner decided to meet Professor Moretti again. Perhaps he had additional details on the symbols and the noble family to which they belonged.
At the university, Moretti welcomed him enthusiastically. "Commissioner, I've done further research. The family associated with those symbols was known for their intrigues and mysteries. They disappeared without a trace."
Rossi listened attentively. "Could there be someone seeking revenge or justice for past wrongs?"
"It's possible," Moretti replied. "History is full of secrets waiting to be uncovered."
As he returned to the office, Rossi reflected on this new perspective. The past seemed to intertwine more and more with the present, and whoever the killer was, they were clearly obsessed with that ancient history.
With a renewed sense of urgency, the commissioner prepared to follow every lead. The killer was still at large, and Rossi knew that time was running out.
