"Stop this now, Corrigan!" With a voice full of anger and sharpness, Lucien raced toward the altar. It was difficult to breathe in the room due to the intense tension and the burning hatred in his eyes.
But I was not going to give up. Even though the ritual was painful and I was lying on a cold stone altar, I wasn't going to quit now. Not after making this much progress. Not with everything on the line.
"No," I said, struggling to gather my thoughts. "I refuse to give up."
Frustrated, Lucien's fists tightened as his chest heaved. "What you're doing is beyond your comprehension! You might die from this ceremony! You have no idea what kind of power you're working with."
With all the remaining power, I forced myself up and met his enraged stare, despite the agony in my chest making it difficult for me to speak. "Lucien, I know exactly what I'm doing," I firmly but tremblingly stated. "The purpose of this is to rescue you. in order to save our kid."
