"Clear the battlefield for Leaf and Ash!" Prof. Oak told the Red and Gary.
To say he was shocked that Gary lost to Red was an understatement, Gary had much knowledge on the 18 types while Red had recently learned there were 18 types! The Pokemon school covered that only in the last year.
But he also understood why, Red didn't think of pokemon as tools, he thought of them as companions whom could betray him at any time but nevertheless didn't despise them as saw them as possible lifelong friends as they explored.
Blue didn't think of pokemon as friends and neither did he think of them as tools, at best he saw pokemon as affiliates. An affiliate if enough intellect is used can be manipulated, used and replaced once someone more powerful, naïve and can be used more as a resource is found.
Professor Oak had always tried to correct his behavior countless times but he never listened hence his loss.
Gary dejectedly fell on the ground and stared at his fainted Squirtle for a few seconds. He reluctantly got up before recalling Squirtle and walking to another part of their makeshift stadium to continue his inner monologue.
"Leaf and Ash you may begin." Professor Oak told the two of them after they had reached the battlefield.
Ash no longer had a pokeball for Pikachu as there was a time when he tried to reach Viridian City to get ahead of them, but at time Pikachu had still not been cooperative and as a result somehow the pokeball got destroyed when they encountered a flock of Spearows.
The pokeball wasn't fully destroyed and it was able to contain a pokemon but it had been lost, but their bond grew and his Pikachu began to respect him.
"Let's go, Pikachu!" Ash shouted as Pikachu leaped off him and onto the battlefield.
"Bulbasaur!" Leaf shouted.
The two pokemon were on the battlefield, without any command Bulbasaur launched out seeds from its bulb covering it with seeds that quickly sunk into the ground.
"Pikachu use thundershock!" Ash shouted.
"Bulbasaur, tackle."
Bulbasaur glowed in normal-type energy before beginning a charge towards Pikachu.
Pikachu slapped his cheeks and began glowing in yellow-electric energy, the energy covered its body and a sent a shock of powerful electric shock towards Bulbasaur.
Bulbasaur managed to evade the attack and rammed into the still Pikachu that was still after using an attack. The attack connected and sent Pikachu marauding backwards, however Bulbasaur didn't seem able to move.
"It worked!" Ash shouted in excitement.
"Hmm…" The professor seemed to be in thought. "I was sure this Pikachu had the ability 'lightning rod'. So it had static; an ability that paralyzes the other pokemon on contact."
"Something is definitely wrong with that Pikachu, after all even I was sure that it had the lightning rod ability. It was basically last week when he practiced that I saw that ability." Barry said to himself.
The Pikachu was something else. Barry hoped that it didn't have two special abilities as that wasn't even possible, his Nidoran had poison point as its ability and not intimidate. If anybody he was supposed to be the one with a pokemon with a special ability and not Ash.
He was the transmigrator after all, he was supposed to have a cheat.
"Pikachu are you okay?" Ash asked.
"Pika!" Pikachu shouted in affirmation.
"Alright, use quick attack!"
"Bulba!" The bulb pokemon shouted in despair at its incoming defeat.
Leaf was at a loss of what to do in this situation, her mind only made simple strategies but her opponent was used to thinking out of the box. That was not only his biggest fault but also his biggest weakness, he was not used to in the box strategies as everything he did was unexpected.
Pikachu glowed in normal-type energy and charged at the paralyzed Bulbasaur, unable to move or use a move Bulbasaur was helpless in this situation.
Suddenly as Pikachu was nearing its target it was stopped midway, a plant was holding it down and preventing its progress.
Pikachu glowed in green energy as its energy sapped out of it, the energy flowed through the air in an orb towards Bulbasaur. The energy was sapped from Pikachu and taken to Bulbasaur but the pokemon was still unable to move.
"Professor can I use an item." Leaf asked.
"You can only use it once." He told her.
She nodded before taking a paralyz heal from her bag and putting the content into a cup. She threw threw it onto Bulbasaur before withdrawing the cup.
"Bulbasaur now, razor leaf!"
Bulbasaur summoned sharp leaves and sent them at the Pikachu. Pikachu took the brunt of the attack but thanks to that he was free.
"Pikachu!" Ash shouted.
Pikachu lay on the ground unmoving and unable to get up, however it was not fainted so the battle would continue.
"Pi, pi, chu." The pokemon grunted.
It was battered and bruised by Bulbasaur's several attacks while unable to land one attack of its own, in this situation Ash didn't think he was the most promising trainer he could have chosen. Even Leaf who had the least in the battle exams of the pokemon school was showing more promise than Ash.
"Let's finish this off Pikachu!" Ash shouted to his pokemon.
Even Gary who was affected by his own loss snorted, how could the person that was obviously losing want to finish it off with his battered Pikachu to finish a barely damaged Bulbasaur.
Pikachu turned its head to Ash with a determined look on its face, the two of them showed a true bond on their faces.
"Use quick attack." Ash said.
Pikachu lunged itself forward before gathering ormal-type energy, as expected another plant caught Pikachu and prevented further movement.
"Iron tail" Ash shouted, the earlier feeling of euphoria now back in his voice.
Pikachu's tail glowed in a shimmery-silver color and it used the hardened tail to cut the plant and continued the movement. The earlier quick attack as still active, the pokemon leaped into the air and began spinning as it spun towards the pokemon.
"Razor leaf again!" Leaf shouted with desperation etched into her voice.
Bulbasaur summoned a large amount of leaves and sent them towards the spinning pokemon.
"Now add thunderbolt!" Ash shouted.
Pikachu's entire body glowed in energy and the electricity produced burnt the leaves to s crisp.
The residuals of the energy still clung to the electric type pokemon as I reached its target and with a final roll slammed its tail that was sparking with electricity coupled with the earlier quick attack.
Dust swirled around the two combatants as the final attack landed, the onlookers waited to see who had won and who had lost. But, two people weren't focused on that, they were focused on what had just happened a few minutes ago.
"How could he?" Both Barry and professor Oak whispered to themselves.
A chain of attacks wasn't uncommon; it was used in everyday battle. However the attacks didn't fade away once a new attack was used. This was a move merger; it allowed the user to use attacks simultaneously.
It was uncommon in every generation, prof. Oak was one of the people able to enable such a thing for his pokemon. There were many promising people who could have been more eligible: Red, Blue and the many other unknown trainers out there.
Ash on the other hand was a mixture of much luck and a little lack, a combination that never work well. But Ash was the best competitor on this sort of matter, his foolish, immature way of caring for pokemon was one of the reasons.
He was even ready to help out pokemon he was not connected to in any way for no apparent benefit as long as he helped out. That was what was on prof. Oak's mind, why Ash? Though it was something that had to be used one after the other it was still extraordinary.
Barry on the other hand was excited of the prospect of using chain attacks that would carry the effect of each other and not just one after the other. He was glad because he thought he could finally merge two or more moves together to form an entirely different one without losing the original.
'At least now I don't have to meet a move tutor from any new attacks, I can just merge them until I have the desired one.'
This was a method of saving money and could never be taken too little.
