Barry sat down in his tent, the sun was already setting yet the pokédex showed he was a two days walk from Viridian city.
He couldn't help but curse at that information, he had expected Viridian city to be at most some hours walk away from Pallet town. It wasn't a nice change considering he lived in a hotel for the last six months.
Outside the tent there was a small fire made by firewood, but aside from that both Nidoran and Pidgey were outside practicing their moves.
Nidoran was perfecting double kick; the move that would be spammed against Brock. Pidgey on the other was perfecting its gust move.
Barry hadn't expected that the trip to Viridian city would take so long so he only packed junk food with him, thinking that he would be in the urban city.
The silph co. bag boasted technology that allowed the owner to store an infinite amount of items as long as said items were not larger than the bag.
From there Barry brought out pre-made pokémon food from his bag and arranged them neatly in a pile, they were average pokémon food that he had bought with his allowance while in Pallet Town.
As soon as he was done he left the tent, they had been traveling non-stop for quite some hours so they deserved some rest and food.
"The food is ready." Barry called the attention of the individuals training.
Both pokémon entered inside the tent to eat the food, even Pidgey that was a bit wary of him acted like they knew each other after mentioning food.
They left Barry outside so he examined the result of their training, Nidoran was continuously using double kick against a tree and the evidence was there.
Pidgey was practicing gust; Barry had assembled medium sized rocks, stacked them on each other and told the bird to blow them away to complete the phase of this training.
So far the rocks had only budged a bit but they were far away from falling down, he reminded himself that Pidgey was newly caught and lived in the wild, there was still time to train her.
Yes, it was a her.
As Barry got ready to come back inside he heard a slight rustling from the nearby bushes, he turned his head to the source of the noise but couldn't find anything.
Either the pokémon before him was good at hiding or it was black, perfectly above to move in the night.
He heard a low growl from the bushes, it seemed like there were quite a few of them, he couldn't help but wonder if it was the smell of food that attracted them there.
Then suddenly one of them came out, it was a Rattata.
"Is that it?" Barry wondered to himself as he looked at the small pokémon in front of him.
"Well then, shoo, shoo, I'm busy here and I don't have time for pests." Barry said trying to pursue the Rattata from his camping site.
Just then multiple Rattata's came out from the bushes, he could spot at least 15 coming out thanks to the fire still burning.
The pokédex entry of Rattata seemingly rang out in his ear.
'If you see one there are 40 more in the area.' He thought looking at the amount of pokémon in front of him.
Where they angry at him for stealing one of their kin? Impossible. Red and Blue should have also caught a Rattata by now.
'Probably because of the fire.' He thought.
His mind assessed different possibilities, he came to the conclusion that the Rattata's attacked the people who camped in their territory and steal their food. But the thought confused him more, why would a weak pokémon like Rattata have a territory to begin with?!
A Rattata lunged at him, moving with speed his eyes weren't able to keep up with in the darkness.
'Quick attack!" Barry thought, he subconsciously moved back in fear that the attack would hit him.
He was lucky, he tripped over a branch as the Rattata leaped into the air ready to take his head out.
The pokémon soared above him, he couldn't believe that Rattata intended to take his head with that move.
The pokémon glided over him but to his shock it turned its head towards him, glaring at how the human was able to dodge it.
As it landed it got smacked into a tree, Nidoran had used double kick.
In that moment when the Rattata hit a tree and fainted the other pokémon looked at him with pure hatred, he couldn't help but gulp.
"This isn't the time to think about that, now they're surely after my blood." He muttered to himself as he rose to his feet.
Luckily his pokémon had come to save him in time, otherwise he didn't know what would have happened.
"Nidoran use double kick, just like you practiced." He ordered.
He stood next to his pokémon now, he couldn't help but meet the bloodthirsty gazes of the Rattatas.
Nidoran's feet glowed in a light red light before the pokémon ran forward, it hit the nearest Rattata next to it.
Landing two solid kicks on it, the impact sending the pokémon flying backwards.
It was then that an outrage broke loose, the Rattata's abandoned their earlier strategy and all rushed at the trainer not minding the pokémon that were attacking them.
"Pidgey, use gust." Barry shouted.
Nidoran hearing his words came back to avoid being in the trajectory of gust.
Pidgey took off into the air as its wings glowed, staying two meters in front of Barry before flapping its wings at the direction of the incoming pokémon.
It succeeded in slowing them down but the stronger ones from the bunch resisted, slowly advancing towards their enemy.
After a solid 5 minutes of continuous flapping Pidgey was spent, it used all its energy and fell from the sky not even having enough energy to continue.
"Pidgey return." Barry pulled out it's pokéball.
A bright red light shot out and connected with Pidgey, the pokémon glowed in the red light before returning into the pokéball.
'This is going to be hard.' Barry thought as he watched the Rattatas.
They were visibly tired after preserving against gust for so long but their spirit was still blazing.
"Nidoran, poison sting." Barry silently commanded.
Nidoran's horn glowed in a slight light as it took off, it reached the closest Rattata that was heavily panting.
Nidoran closed in front of it before stabbing the small Rattata on its backside.
It let out a shrill streak but its stamina had withered away and now the only thing that was appearing before it was a darkness, funny, darkness seemed like a nice thing right now because it meant sleep.
The pokémon closed its eyes as its legs gave out, falling into a nice slumber.
But Nidoran wasn't bothered about something so unimportant, instead it was listening to his trainer's voice.
"Peck!"
Nidoran shot forward aiming towards a nearby Rattata.
Barry moved his body to the right, watching the Rattata that desperately wanted his head, they were tired their fatigue evident in their movements as they moved towards him.
This was going to be a long night...
