"Why not." Prof. Oak showed a smile.
Barry had a had it of calling bird pokémon chicken when it looked like they were going to be turned into food, and due to the fact that he usually saw Prof. Oak almost everyday even the man had grown accustomed to his unusual words.
"Later I'll send some Spearow meat to you." The professor promised.
Barry nodded quickly before turning back to his Nidoran, he wasn't wearing gloves so he refrained from touching the pokémon.
"Nidoran, when we start I'll say use horn attack but you really use double-kick." Barry whispered.
When he was planning yesterday he wanted to just wing it and accept how it goes, but after seeing Red get humiliated so badly after easily defeating Gary he found it wrong to keep it like that.
He should be the strongest opponent that everyone would set their eyes on beating, not Blue!
"After that, I'm sure Blue will tell Squirtle to get into its shell due to the momentum so I will say use double kick and you will use double kick."
"Then from there we wing it." Barry decided.
'I'm cool with planning for the beginning when everything is predictable but when we're in the heat of the battle not everything goes out as planned, I'm not also going to try to predict every single possibility since that is too much of a hassle.' Barry sighed at the thought of it before lying down.
When Nidoran was newly given to him, the pokémon liked poking its horn against objects and too many times had tried rubbing the poisonous horn against him and succeeded once.
But now that it had left its baby stages and grown more towards the teen stages it seldom did that so he didn't need the gloves.
"Barry and Blue, your match is starting." Prof. Oak said.
He seemed to have given up on the whole referee act and was contemplating on something serious, maybe a new upgrade for the pokédex?
Barry and Blue got into the makeshift arena, Blue's hands gripped his pokéball tightly.
"Begin!"
Nidoran ran to Barry's side while Blue threw his pokéball into the air, Squirtle bursting out of the pokéball.
"Nidoran, start off with horn attack!" Barry yelled.
Nidoran's feet glowed in light red energy before it began moving, it was faster than before when it tried to dodge Pikachu's thundershock last time.
'Horn attack, that isn't something a Nidoran can use easily.' Blue thought.
"Use water gun, don't let it get near you!" Blue commanded.
Squirtle took in a deep breath before unleashing a torrent of water from its mouth, but Nidoran dodged it even after it changed trajectory, moving it mouth to try to hit Nidoran.
Nidoran reached Squirtle, but to Blue's shock it didn't use its horn.
It jumped into the air, kicking Squirtle squarely on its head before switching to the next foot and hitting it again.
"Back away." Barry said.
Nidoran moved backwards, thought it did not carry the same speed as it did when using double kick it managed to get a good distance away from Squirtle.
"Nidoran use double kick!" Barry yelled.
'Does he think I'm that stupid, I'm not falling for it again.' Blue smirked.
"Squirtle, tackle." Blue commanded.
Both of the pokémon were charging at each other, it was no doubt that the strongest would win.
Squirtle hit Nidoran back with its full body, it was no doubt heavier than Nidoran so had the advantage.
Nidoran fell backwards.
'This is why I don't like strategies. Too many unknown variables.' Barry groaned.
"Nidoran use poison sting!" Barry ordered.
"Squirtle." Blue seemed prepared for this move.
Squirtle moved its body as it tanked poison sting with its shell.
"Nidoran, get back!"
"Squirtle."
Both pokémon jumped back, they glared at each other. For some reason Nidoran didn't like Squirtle, it wasn't like Barry liked Blue's squirtle too, for some reason in pokémon generations one the Squirtle was flexing while battling Charmander!
"Nidoran, use leer!"
"If that's how you want to play, Squirtle use tail whip." Blue smirked.
"Nidoran, are you sure you can do this." Barry asked his pokémon concerned.
"Nido!" Nidoran shouted.
It seemed to know his expectations and didn't want him to lose to a stupid Squirtle.
"Alright!" Barry yelled in excitement, he didn't expect pokémon battles to be this way.
He was feeling excited even though the prospects didn't look too bright for him, it was like he and Nidoran had connected in someway.
"Maybe this is what it's like to be a real pokémon trainer." He grinned.
"Nidoran use tackle!"
Nidoran glowed in normal-type energy as it began running towards Squirtle.
"Squirtle use tackle as well."
The two pokémon met head-on, like last time Squirtle seemed to be winning their clash.
"Now, Leer!" Barry shouted.
Normally he wouldn't care about winning this match much but now his determination was clearly inscribed into his voice.
Nidoran looked at Squirtle, casting a menacing gaze.
Squirtle was stunned for a second, but a second was all Barry needed.
"Nidoran, finish it with fury attack!"
Nidoran thrust its horn forward, stabbing Squirtle on its body. It retracted its horn, before stabbing the pokémon again.
"Squirtle get out of there!" Blue shouted.
Squirtle hearing its trainers voice used bite on Nidoran.
"Nido!" Nidoran shouted.
"Nidoran push through."
Nidoran gritted its teeth as it pushed through.
It retracted its horn once more before thrusting it deep into Squirtle.
"Squirtle!" The water pokémon lost its energy there, in fact it seemed like Nidoran had hit a vital part of it.
The turtle pokémon fell onto the grass, swirls indicating that it had fainted.
"And Barry is the winner!" Prof. Oak exclaimed, once again he had been surprised.
"Return." Blue said, his disappointment evident in his tone.
"Nidoran, are you all right!" Barry ran towards his pokémon.
Nidoran, despite all the pain it was feeling looked in his direction and saw its trainers happiness.
"Nido!" Nidoran shouted gleefully.
The pokémon ran towards his trainer, though it was injured it still moved at a normal pace.
Then the unexpected happened, Nidoran stabbed him on his leg.
'Wait, this isn't supposed to be how a happy ending ends.'
"Jesus! My leg, it hurts like hell! Someone help me! I'm dying! Oh God, will my soul go to heaven? Heeeelp!" Barry shouted in pain.
To him the pain was unreal, like using multiple needles and removing them before poking them in again.
"My boy, that's an unusual celebration you have there." Prof. Oak said with a chuckle.
Nidoran, the assailant, didn't even know what it did wrong and just remained cheerful.
'This pokémon is deadly.' Barry thought noticing Nidoran's cheerful expression.
He fell asleep, the poison had gotten to him.
…
Barry woke up, he was surrounded by several machines but none were operating on him. Several of Prof. Oak's aides were in the lab but none were even paying attention to him.
'I guess they cured me.' Barry thought, as he checked around him.
He saw nothing of importance except an empty antidote bottle.
'Or they used a cheap antidote on me,'
"Barry my boy, it seems you are awake." A voice sounded from the corner.
