Barry woke up that morning feeling refreshed, he wasn't even tired when he woke up unlike most mornings.
He brushed his teeth had a long shower, put one a pair of his clothes and prepared to eat the breakfast the hotel was supposed to serve.
But the breakfast never came, Barry however was undaunted by it, he casually checked the clock in the room and checked the time.
It showed that it was 1 '0 clock.
"I guess I woke up late." Barry said to himself as he got ready to leave.
He took one last look at his hotel room he stayed in for the last six months before closing it and locking the door, he did have many memories here in Pallet town.
He submitted his key before leaving, he walked towards the pokémon lab to inform Professor Oak that he would be setting out.
As he held Nidoran's pokéball in his hand he began wondering about his life, surely his number one goal was to become a pokémon champion but he needed to think about retirement.
Perhaps, a pokémon breeder?
"Professor." Barry said as he walked into the lab.
"Barry?" The voice of the old man came. "What are you still doing here? I thought you had already left with the others."
"I was asleep." He explained walking past the aides that were in the lab.
"You don't strike me as someone who would imitate Ash." Prof. Oak chuckled.
"I just came to tell you that I'll be leaving now." Barry said, his voice trailing off slowly.
"Then I believe you came here to get the pokédex, the pokéballs and the money per your sponsorship?" Prof. Oak asked as he went to a side of the lab.
'I totally forgot that I was supposed to get those.' Barry facepalmed himself as the professor came back.
"Here is your pokédex, 20 pokéballs and 10 thousand poké." Prof. Oak handed the teen the items.
Barry fumbled with the pokéballs before keeping them in his right pocket, they were quite small so they fit right in. He put the pokédex in his left pocket because he knew he would be needing it most of the time.
And finally he put the ten thousand in his Silph co. bag.
"Ten thousand seems like an awful lot." He muttered to himself.
Prof. Oak let out a little laugh, he looked at Barry amused as if he was about to reveal something.
"If you think ten thousand is much I'm really sorry for you. Remember to watch your spending habits or your pokémon will hate you." He advised.
'I wonder what that means.' Barry shrugged his shoulders.
"I'll call when I get to Pewter." Barry shouted as he went through the door.
…
Barry looked at the grassy terrain, in the last six months the grass had been cut short so he would be able to see pokémon better.
Not soon after he entered route 1 he saw a Rattata.
Barry threw Nidoran's pokéball into the air, the purple pokémon burst out of it and when it saw the threat it immediately used tackle on it.
Nidoran crashed into Rattata, the belly of the Rattata shown as it was knocked upside down.
"Pokéball go!" Barry shouted as he threw the pokéball.
Barry expected the pokéball to curve towards its target but unfortunately he missed by a long shot.
"What the hell!" He shouted as the pokéball fell onto the ground, it hadn't even come close to Rattata.
He quickly took another pokéball from his pockets, pressing the button he ran towards the fallen Rattata and pressed it against its belly.
The pokéball left his hand as Rattata glowed in a red light before shrinking and entering the red and white ball, it shook thrice before clicking.
The pokéball clicked to signify that Rattata had been successfully caught, but Barry wasn't too excited about his first catch. He had expected that the ball was auto-homing but it depended on his own aim.
*Ding *Ding
Barry's pokédex shook in his pocket, he brought it out expecting to see the pokédex entry on Rattata.
His pokédex's screen had already lit up and was displaying an image of Rattata and its data.
[Rattata:
Will chew on anything with its fangs. If you see one, it is certain that 40 more live in the area.]
"How vague." Barry said to himself.
'Well, the least I can do is catch all the pokémon on route 1.' Barry thought as he looked at Rattata's pokéball.
He was weighing the decision of allowing Rattata to become a member of his team, in the game he abused Raticate's hyper fang but this wasn't a game anymore, one screw up and he's one step into death.
"Nope." He finally decided, shrinking the pokéball and stuffing it into his left pocket where he kept his pokédex.
"Nidoran, let's move forward. I think we should catch a bit more pokémon." He told Nidoran whom was staring at him.
The pokémon cheered before taking his side as they continued to walk, they passed through the terrain as Barry navigated through the grass route.
"Pii!" Barry heard a cry and distinctively turned his head towards the source.
A pidgey.
It's brown and cream colored skin looked more like appetizers in the hot sun.
As soon as the pokémon sighted that it had been found it kicked up sand.
The sand struck home successfully blinding Nidoran and Barry for a moment.
"Nidoran use poison sting!" Barry shouted in rage after being hit by its attack.
Hearing the trainer Pidgey had taken flight to avoid Nidoran whom had no long range moves to attack the bird pokémon.
In a last act Barry threw the pokéball towards Pidgey.
The pokéball whizzed through the air hitting the target on the head.
Pidgey let out a sound in defiance as it was sucked into the pokéball.
The pokeball shook once.
"Nidoran, get ready to use tackle as soon as Pidgey breaks out." Barry commanded as he watched the pokéball.
It shook again but the pokémon remained in it.
'Is it going to end like this.' Barry wondered.
The pokéball shook once more began clicking.
Barry when hearing the click rejoiced as he ran over to the pokéball and picked it up.
"I guess I got a Pidgey.' He told himself.
As Barry looked at the pokéball he suddenly got an idea, he had noticed that the game seemed to blend more with the games and animes but what about the manga?
He knew that if this world was in the manga he wasn't going to enjoy a peaceful time at all.
But then, he tapped it before looking at it again.
Just like he had expected he could see the pokémon inside the pokéball, a Pidgey.
"I guess it's a mix of everything." Barry sighed. "Or maybe it's just there."
The idea just came into his mind and he didn't give it any thought, whether or not the world was combined with the manga was still unsure.
But now he had a way to talk to the pokémon, he wanted it to be a part of his team.
"Pidgey." He said to the pokéball.
The bird pokémon startled to see that it could be seen turned towards his seemingly large body, last time it remembered the trainer who caught it wasn't so big!
"Pidgey listen well because I'm not going to repeat myself." he said to the pokémon.
"I'm going to be your trainer from now on, and we're going to form a mutual relationship where you repay me for giving you a place to stay by helping me wherever I need you, if not I'll leave you inside this pokéball forever." Barry said.
At hearing "staying in the pokéball forever" Pidgey nodded fiercely as if almost begging him.
'I forgot that it was supposed to be sentimental, but who cares, Pidgey doesn't so who am I to question my earlier actions?' Barry thought with a chuckle as he released the bird pokémon.
