Chapter 23 - Chapter 23

EMILY'S POV

"Nothing happened. We didn't see anything or know anything ok?" Jack told me as he drove back to the house. Even after we got home, I was still in shock at what happened.

Everybody was eager to find out what happened but I couldn't bring myself to start talking. After receiving some assurance from Jack that nothing was going to happen, I became relaxed and relieved.

_

Jack's date for surgery came as fast as I could tell. Luckily for us, he had already paid for the surgery before we went bankrupt. We both traveled to Germany for the surgery.

While he was being taken to the surgical room, he grabbed my hands and stared in my eyes. "Promise me you will be here when I'm done and you will be the first person I see after the surgery?" It came more as a request and plea.

"Of course Jack. I promise you." I assured him smiling with tears in my eyes. It was hurting because the happy and sad moments I've spent with Jack was going to be void once he comes out of the surgery.

Immediately he went in for the surgery, I felt a heavy weight on my chest that made me break down in tears. I couldn't control myself any longer. I had been strong just to encourage Jack all this while but inside me, I've been hiding my heavy heart.

I sat down on the patient's seat at the lobby of the hospital while waiting for Jack. I started reminiscing the moments I spent with Jack. His face, his smile, his cute demeanor. I cried about the fact that he will not remember me nor his children or even think of his own family.

Some few minutes later, I saw the police walking into the lobby. They were about five in number. They suddenly stopped where I sat. "Are you Mrs Emily Blackwood?" A man in his early forties who I suspected was their head asked.

"Yes sir." I answered still confused about what was happening.

"You are under arrest for the murder of Mr Matthew Brown. We have a warrant here with us and we have every right to arrest you now." He said.

"What----------" I was still talking when two of his men came to me and handcuffed me. I was both confused and shocked. "Wait officer, I need to see my husband before I leave." I said as I struggled to get out of their grip.

They pulled me through the lobby and I watched as the doors of the surgical room swung open. "Jack!!!!!!!" I screamed at the top of my voice. I struggled to escape from their grip and see Jack one last time before they took me. At that point, I only wanted to see Jack.

As I was being dragged out of the hospital, everyone came out to see who it was. Amongst the crowd I saw Vivian. It was then I knew it was her plan. She stared at me with deceit before heading down the hallway, to meet Jack.

...

I was taken into jail immediately. All I could think of was Jack and no one else. I was mentally ill and decapitated.

 THIRD PERSON POV

Vivian silently walked to Jack feeling content. She watched as he slowly and steadily opened his eyes. It was as cute as ever before but this time it was different.

He tried saying something but nothing came out. "It's alright dear, I know you don't probably know anything now." She said smiling at him.

"Who are you?" He asked seeming uncertain.

"I'm Vivian. Your girlfriend and soon to be wife." She said smiling inwardly. "Actually, you had a wife but she abandoned you with your two children. Your family supported her and your dad is sick right now." She said.

"What happened to him?" Jack asked seeming interested.

"Your family's problems caused him to go into coma. He didn't trust your family because they maltreated me so he gave me his property without leaving anyone for your family." She filled him all sorts of lies she could get hold of.

"That means I came from a self-centered family. No wonder none of them are here with me in the hospital." Jack said.

Vivian felt fulfilled after filling him with different lies just to make his family look bad in his eyes.

After some days, Jack was discharged. Vivian called his family and told them all that she told Jack, telling them they had lost their son. She also made sure Emily's arrest went viral.

Vivian returned back from Germany with Jack. She took him to their house and continued controlling him.

One afternoon, his family came to see him at the house. "Hey Jack." Mrs Blackwood rushed to him but he used his hand to push her away lightly.

"Don't come closer." He ordered them. "Why do you look surprised?" He asked them. "I already know how you all maltreated my girlfriend Vivian and caused father heart attack and also my ex-wife who was just arrested for murder charge." He spilled out.

"What are you saying son?" Mrs Blackwood asked him in surprise. "What did you tell him Vivian?" Mrs Blackwood asked her angrily.

"Of course I told him the truth. He knows everything now and there's nothing you can do about it." She said.

"Look Jack dear, don't believe anything she tells you. She's a liar and in fact she-------------"

"Enough!!!" Jack yelled looking pissed already. "I already know about what you want to do and there's nothing that can be done about that woman." He said not looking at her face. "Now if you don't mind, we have a wedding to plan for so if you could excuse us, we would love it." He said.

They were all shocked to the core. They couldn't believe Jack just chased them away from the house. They didn't blame since he couldn't remember anything and joining the fact that Vivian had already spoilt his mind about everyone.

 EMILY'S POV

"Make sure you get all the evidence and information you can get about this case." I told my lawyer and Jack's brothers when they visited one afternoon at the prison.

"I have an idea." Brian suddenly said.

"What is it?" I asked him.

"We could check the CCTV footage on that road and check that day. Since both you and Jack were there when it happened, I think they will see that you didn't do anything." Brian explained.

"Oh yes. That's true Brian. Thank you so much." I said smiling for the first time after a long time. They left as soon as possible to get the CCTV footage.

I was happy and excited that my days in jail were slowly coming to an end. I stared at the window in my cell smiling as I hoped and waited for the date of my hearing at the court.
