Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

EMILY'S POV

The court hearing appeared in no time. As I walked to the court room in handcuffs, I imagined what Jack would be like now. Brian, Peter and Ethan had already told me how Vivian fed him with lies and I know for sure that he will remember everything with time.

As I entered the courtroom, the murmurings stopped and all eyes were on me. I looked straight, chin up and head held high. I saw Mrs Blackwood, Brian Peter and Ethan at their seats.

Mrs Blackwood gave me an assuring look that made me warm. I've so missed her. I looked around searching for just one person but I couldn't find him. Jack wasn't at my hearing. I felt sad.

The judge gave the order for the court session to begin. Just as the opposing side was about to lay their arguments, the courtroom doors opened wide. Everyone turned back also to look.

I smiled and jumped in my heart as I saw Jack but he was with Vivian by his side. They gracefully walked in and sat down looking straight. He looked different but I knew he was still my Jack. His eyes would never fail. It will always tell.

"My Lord, the offender here was present at the crime scene on that day." The opposing lawyer started.

"And do you have evidence to back that up with?" My defending lawyer questioned his opposer.

"Of course I do." Vivian's hired lawyer said as he brought out a CD plate and handed it over to the judge. "My lord, here is the CCTV footage of that day. In that CD, Mrs Emily Blackwood is seen with her husband on that day." The lawyer explained.

The judge played it on the screen and it showed the part where Jack was beating Matthew up, but it was short and didn't show the most important part.

"And what does that have to do with her committing the crime?" The judge asked.

"My lord, it was proven that Mrs Emily Blackwood here had an affair with late Mr Matthew Brown. When he exposed her to her family, she got infuriated and killed my client. She also sent some threatening messages too." He said.

I rubbed my sweaty palm on my orange coverall. I was surprised at the lies he dropped. He handed the judge a phone showing him the supposed messages.

"Permission to speak my Lord!" My lawyer rose to his feet immediately.

"Of course." The judge said handing the phone over to Matthew's lawyer.

I looked at Vivian one more time and she gave me this wicked and disdainful smirk. It was as if she was telling me that I had lost but she didn't know what was coming.

"My Lord, my client here was present at the crime scene on that day and was also present when it happened." My lawyer started. "But without doubt, I would like to play the complete CCTV footage of that day." He added.

Everywhere became a little bit noisy and from the look on Vivian's face, I could tell that she was nervous and scared.

My lawyer played the CD and this time it showed the time Matthew pointed a gun at Jack and I. Everyone was shocked as it played. I smiled with content for the fact that there was a visible evidence. It played till the point where the bike rider rode in and shot Matthew before leaving.

"This is the truth of what happened that day my Lord." My lawyer concluded. The judge turned to the other judges by his left and right hand side and they discussed for sometime.

This was like a crucial time in my life. It was when the judge was going to give his final verdict. I swallowed saliva in anticipation of what was going to happen next as I waited patiently.

Finally, the judge turned to everyone and gave his verdict. Everywhere stood still as he was about to speak. "With the evidences from both the opposing side and proposing side to this case, we have come to a final verdict. I hereby sentence Mrs Emily Blackwood free of every charge held against her." He concluded and hit his staff on his desk before leaving.

I held my chest in relief as I breathed heavily. Tears of joy rolled down my cheeks. Mrs Blackwood ran to me and embraced me. Brian and the rest of them also came.

I looked around, searching for Jack and Vivian. I saw them leaving and Vivian looked really angry. I was really happy that I won. "Excuse me please." I said as I ran after Jack and Vivian.

"Jack!! Jack!!!!" I yelled as I ran after them. They stopped and turned to me.

"What is it?" Jack asked me with furrowed brows. I swallowed saliva as I fought back tears. I was so happy to see him after a long time.

"I'm so happy you are back on your feet. If-----------"

"Enough woman!!" He suddenly cut me off. "Don't start lying about things I already know. You married me because of my money and made my family separate. You should be behind bars by now." He spat angrily before grabbing hands with Vivian as they moved to their car.

For a moment it felt as if it was the Jack I knew that was talking to me. Hot excruciating tears poured like a tap from my eyes. I slowly staggered backwards as I watched their car disappear into the road.

I felt someone at my back. "It's fine dear. He will come around soon. We just need to help him remember." Mrs Blackwood said rubbing my shoulder. I folded my lips as I promised myself to fight for Jack even till my last breath.

_

We all went to the house after I signed some papers. The moment I saw Max, Jack's face flashed into my head. I was away for only 2 months and baby was already grown. Ashley on the other hand was big and already crawling.

"Mummy!!!!!" Max yelled the minute he said me. He ran and jumped on me in excitement. I buried my face in his hair as I held him tight to my chest like he was going to disappear the next minute.

"I've missed you my darling." I said with tears as I kissed his forehead.

"It's alright darling. Go and freshen up then come back downstairs for dinner." Mrs Blackwood told me as she escorted me up to my room.

"Thank you Mom." I told her with my eyes wet with tears.

"For what?" She asked looking surprised.

"For all you've done for my children and I. For everything." I told her. She smiled and grabbed my hands.

"Look dear. We are family and family is always together at all times. That's what a family is called." She rubbed the side of my face before leaving.

After dinner that night, we all went out to the field and made a bonfire since it was already winter. The children were already asleep. "What about dad?" I asked the one question that I had been wanting to ask. They all looked sad immediately.

"He's fine dear. Although he's still in the hospital, the doctor said his pulse is slowly becoming stronger." Mrs Blackwood said amidst tears. I could see her pain. "My husband is sick and my son has left me I'm---------"

"It's ok mom. One thing I know for sure is that he's going to be ok." I cut her off as I held her hands. "And as for Jack, I will definitely make sure he regains his memory as soon as possible." I promised her. She pulled me in for an embrace. I cherished that moment dearly and at that moment I planned on how to help Jack regain his memory.
