Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

EMILY'S POV

My whole mind was on Jack getting better and not even Max, though Jack's parents took him in. I panicked as I waited outside the emergency room for the doctor to come out.

Suddenly, he came out. "How is he doctor?" I rushed to him.

"I can't say anything for now. He's still in a critical condition. He's not responding but we are trying our best." He assured me. I broke into tears as he left. I felt guilty for letting him leave the hotel like that and causing him to do this to himself.

Jack's parents came later on but without Max. Jack's mom consoled me as I kept on crying. It wasn't long until the doctor finally came out. He looked stressed and down. "What's his condition now doc?" Jack's father asked him first.

"He's fine now." He said. Everyone sighed in relief but it wasn't all. "But......" The doctor stopped halfway.

"What is it doctor?" I asked him.

"We just discovered that he might be in coma for a while." The doctor said before leaving. I felt bad but grateful for the fact that he was still alive and ok. We went in to see him with the oxygen mask on.

The machines beeped loudly in my ears as I walked closer and closer to him. I cupped his face in my palm. They felt warm. I just stared at him thinking what would have happened if I didn't get there early.

A lady who was heavily pregnant walked in suddenly. I looked at her and recognized she was the one I saw at the supermarket with Jack before we got married. She looked like she was in her 7th or 8th month.

As she walked to me, she gave me this disdainful glare that I didn't understand. She touched his face softly. My gaze shifted from her to Jack's parents who both gave me a 'be patient' look.

Max ran in and hugged my legs. I carried him in my arms and gave him a kiss on his forehead. "Don't worry dear. Dad is going to be fine again. He just have a cold and will be back on his feet soon." I assured him as he stared at Jack with worry. He nodded vibrantly.

Jack's parents took him back home while I stayed with Jack. The doctor said someone close to him should be by his side in case he wakes up. I watched him all night with the machines beeping in my ears like song.

_

Jack remained like that for two weeks and I was still at the hospital, though his parents stayed with him while I went back to prepare something and spend some time with Max. "What did the doctor say?" Jack's parents both asked one day they visited.

"They said his pulse is rising little by little. He's getting better." I assured them with hope.

"You look sleep ridden dear. Look at your eyes. I think you should go home and have some rest." Jack's mom told me rubbing my face. She was right because for three nights, I haven't slept.

Just as I was about to leave, my stomach churned. I felt the urge to vomit and I ran to the bathroom and vomited. Jack's mom came in and rubbed my back. I washed up and came out. "I think I'm sick. I just need to go home and rest." I told them.

"Wait dear." Jack's father came to me. "Since we are in the hospital, I think we should check what's wrong with you. You look really sick." He attested.

"That's true darling." His wife agreed. I nodded and followed them to the doctor's office. She ran some tests on me.

About 20 minutes later, she walked in smiling. "Congratulations Mrs Jack, you're three weeks pregnant." She said.

I didn't know whether to feel happy or sad because Jack wasn't there to celebrate with me. Jack's parents seemed excited the most. They hugged me and congratulated me. I was happy that Max was going to have a sibling and our family was growing. I rubbed my stomach and smiled at myself. At least I was smiling after two weeks.

One morning, I decided to go to the hospital's cafeteria to get some water. When I arrived, I saw someone in an all black removing Jack's oxygen mask. "Stop!!!!" I yelled dropping the water I bought to the ground.

I rushed to the person who tried as much as possible to hide his identity. I pushed him away and wore Jack's oxygen mask back. He was about to come back to me when one of the nurses walked in and he ran off.

After that day, Jack's father increased the security in Jack's room. They were all there 24 hours, never leaving his side.

I wondered who wanted to take Jack's life. Then I recognized him. It was Victor! He promised to be back for his revenge on Jack. I quickly called the police station. "Is Victor still in custody?" I asked the officer.

"No ma'am. He escaped few days ago." The officer answered.

"And you didn't bother to tell us?" I questioned him with anger in my voice.

"I'm sorry ma'am. We are trying our possible best in finding him. He's still in the country and I promise that we will find him soon." He assured me. I hanged up immediately as fear gripped me.

I know he was still going to come back. He never gives up. He is somewhere outside there and seeks revenge.

When Jack's parents came back, I informed them about it. They were supposed and shocked too. "That guy is very dangerous. We need to keep Max safe. He's going to come back." I told them.

"You're right. We are going to do that." Mr Jack agreed as he started making a phonecall.

I was still scared at what I saw. Memories from that day Victor almost killed Max started flooding my head. I promised myself to never let that happen. Jack and Max were my lives so I wasn't going to let them go.

I went back to Jack and watched him untouched. He looked good and the life supporting machine proved that he was still ok.

The next morning, Sam visited the hospital. She came with lots of things. I left her with Jack to get something. When I returned, I saw Sam outside the room. It looked like she was waiting for someone. "What's going on?" I asked her.

"After you left, the machines started beeping fast. I called the doctor and they are checking him now." Sam told me. My heart skipped as she explained. Different thoughts ran into my head. We both waited until the doctor came out.

"What happened doctor? Where is Jack?" I asked him immediately, not giving him any breathing space.

"Calm down Mrs Emily. Jack is out of danger now. In fact, he's awake." The doctor announced.

For a moment, I saw my world changing. I felt different. He left us in shock. I couldn't believe my ears.........
