Chapter 8 - Chapter 8

EMILY'S POV

I woke up after the noise around me ceased for a while. I found myself in the living room with Jack sitting beside me. "Where is Max?" I asked him feeling tensed.

"He's fine." Jack said.

"How?" I asked in confusion although I was relieved that nothing happened to him but was still surprised cause I saw him fall down from the terrace.

"I was quick to catch him before he fell." Jack said. I sighed heavily. I started wondering what would have happened if Max fell without Jack's intervention.

"What about Victor?" I asked him sitting upright.

"He's been arrested. One of the security was quick to call the police and they were here after the incident happened. He almost got away but they caught him before he could do so." Jack explained.

Max suddenly ran to me. I held him tight in an embrace so he won't leave my grip. Jack's phone started ringing. He looked at the caller and I watched as his face changed from cool to sour. "I will be right back, let me take this." He said as he went away. He seemed bothered. I erased it off my mind, maybe I was just over thinking.

The sound of a notification buzzed from the nightstand and woke me up. I rubbed my eyes as I looked to see if Jack was awake, but he wasn't in the room. I picked up his phone on my way to give it to him when I saw something that caught my attention.

Hello honey, the baby is fine now. The doctor said we need to pay for the hospital bill........

The message read. I was confused at first until realization hit me hard. "Oh my God." I exclaimed in shock. It was in that moment that Jack entered the room.

"What is it?" He asked and when he saw me with his phone, he quickly dragged it and saw the message. "W-w-wait I-I-I c-c-can explain." He said stuttering. He tried holding my arm but I shoved it away.

"Who is that?" I asked him with tears forming in my eyes already.

"It's not what you think dear-------"

"Just tell me the fucking truth Jack!!!" I yelled cutting him off. "You know what? I can't take this." I said as I started leaving.

"No no no stop dear. It's not what you think." He said following me. I went straight to Max's room and carried him. I took one of the Jeeps and drove off not listening to what Jack had to say.

I drove in a high speed, not knowing where I was going. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I drove to God knows where. "Mummy, why are you crying?" Max asked me.

"I'm ok son, something got into mummy's eye." I lied holding back my tears. How could I ever tell him that his father cheated on me and is also expecting a baby? I felt betrayed and pained. My heart was too heavy for me to carry.

I stopped in front of a luxurious hotel. Since I didn't have anywhere to go to, that was the best place to relax and think. We went in and I paid for the room. I put Max to bed when we got to the room.

My phone was already buzzing with calls and messages. I switched it off at some point to think. My life was so wasted at that point. Everything felt surreal to me. I thought my life was a happy one until it shattered before me. I slept on the couch thinking about what happened.

The loud knocking on the door woke from my sleep. I slowly walked to the door to see who it was. Lo and behold, it was a sleep ridden Jack. He looked like a mess. I was about to jam the door in his face but he pushed it little with his arm. "Please please Emily. Let me explain." He pleaded.

"What are you doing here Jack and how did you find me?" I asked him.

"The car you took has a tracker so I tracked it down to this hotel." He said.

"I don't want to talk to you now Jack leave." I told him as I pushed the door to close but he still held it.

"Ok ok can I at least see Max?" He pleaded.

I almost didn't accept but then I let him in. "Only 5 minutes." I said before letting him in. He went to Max and kissed have forehead.

"Don't worry son. You will soon be back home. Mummy and daddy needs to take care of an important business ok?" Jack assured him and he smiled broadly. "I hope you listen to me soon." He said before leaving.

I didn't want to listen to what he had to say but part of me wanted to. Later that day, I received a call from Jack's mom. "Hello dear." She said as soon as I picked up the call.

"Good day ma'am." I said blankly.

"Look, I understand you're angry at the moment but can you please listen to what I have to say?" She asked.

"Ok." I said giving her my ears.

"After Jack left you, he met with this girl and they were so close. They even planned on getting married, but something happened. We happened to find out that she had an affair with someone outside. Jack threw her out of his house and that was when he met back with you. Fats forward to some days ago, he received a news from her that she was pregnant with his baby. He never cheated on you dear." She explained.

I couldn't utter a word. I felt guilty and ashamed for not listening to what he had to say. "I suggest you go and make up with your husband before you loose him." She added before hanging up. I knew I had to apologize at that point.

I picked up some of my things and took Max with me. We drove back home. I wanted to apologise to Jack and make things right.

I got to the house at exactly the right time but I couldn't find Jack. The house looked empty and I wondered where everyone had gone to. I looked in the kitchen and study but couldn't find him. I checked in the room but he was not there either. I became worried. I kept Max in his room so u could search alone.

An idea suddenly bumped into my head. I grabbed my phone from my back pocket and dialed Jack's number to find out where he was. It started ringing but I could hear it close.

I followed the ringtone till I got to one of the guests rooms. I could hear it closely so I opened the door and I screamed at Jack's body that laid lifelessly on the ground. He was covered in a pool of blood. A knife was on his right hand and I could see that he slitted his wrist. I rushed to him and checked his pulses but it wasn't working.

I called for and ambulance and in no time he was taken to the hospital even when I knew he wasn't breathing anymore.
