Chapter 23 - How do you know?

Jovita's POV

"You should stay back, we will find him", Eric said to me, blocking the exit.

We were still at the party, and I insisted on following them to find Jayden. The rest of the party guests had dispersed, and the room was empty, except for me, my besties, the white brothers, and Betty. I noticed she was still giving me cold stares and she was avoiding Eric.

"Please I need to go with you", I pleaded with teary-eyed.

"If you come with us it would pose a problem, we'd be distracted between protecting you and searching for him", Phil, Maddie's mate, said.

I nodded, he was right, it was better I stayed back. I would only be a burden.

"If anything happens to you, he'd probably behead us in a breath", Eric said, and the others burst out in a fit of laughter. I blushed looking down, I hadn't expected that.

"Let's be on our way", Eric said, taking off through the crack Uriel had left, while Phil and Conan followed.

I sat down on the chair, taking in a deep, worried breath. Maddie came behind me, gently rubbing shoulders

"He would be fine", she whispered, her voice laced with worry. I nodded, squeezing her hands.

"Jovita", I Heard in my head. Oh my gawd, it was Jayden. He sounded very weak and low.

"I have to go", I said abruptly, standing up.

"To where?" Maddie asked in a shrill voice.

"What's with the drama?", Betty said, rolling her eyes, while her two friends giggled, or would I say two maids, she controlled them like a remote button.

I ignored them and turned to my besties.

"I have to go find Jayden, his not in good shape right now", I said.

"How do you know?" Maddie asked wide-eyed.

I bit my lips remembering that I hadn't shared the latest developments with my besties yet. That could wait for later, in the meantime, Jayden was more important.

Oh my gosh, I was beginning to like him more than necessary. I could feel butterflies in my belly right now.

"How do you know, Jovita?" Maddie asked again, pulling me out of my thoughts.

I bite my lips.

"I can hear his thoughts now", I said slowly, waiting for their reaction.

"OMG!" Anna screamed.

"Hell yeah", Maddie said with a smile. So that confirms he's your mate".

"I don't know", I replied, not wanting to get my hopes up.

Yes, I could hear Jayden's thoughts, and he could hear mine, and he strongly believed I was his mate, I was yet to wolf out. When a werewolf that was yet to wolf out found their mates, they were expected to wolf out, but that wasn't the case yet.

"Jovita", I heard again. This time I could tell he was in pain.

"Okay, I have to go", I said running towards the opening, not waiting for my bestie's response. I had no time to argue.

"Jovita", Maddie called after me, but I ignored her, running deeper into the forest. I was a bit faster than usual, I noticed.

Since I woke up from my supposed comma, I had been noticing some unusual abilities. I could run faster, hear clearer, and see farther. I didn't know what that meant for me, but I couldn't dare to hope.

I felt a movement through the trees behind me, and I turned sharply, adrenaline rushing through me. I sighed out of relief when I saw it was just a squirrel, but tensed again when I saw my hands.

It was glowing white like there was some light bulb within it. Did this come because I thought I was in danger? I wondered. Was this the powers the lady who claimed to be my mother was referring to?

I shook off the thoughts and focused on finding Jayden.

When I reached the middle of the forest, near the meadow where I always hung out with Ramiel, my wolf, I caught a faint smell of Jayden. I would recognize his smell anywhere.

I followed the smell, hoping to find him before it was too late. The night was fading away, but it had been a moonless night, and a thick darkness covered the forest, but strangely I could see clearly. Talk about weird abilities.

I screamed as I felt something strongly clutch my ankle, adrenaline rushing through me for the second time, but weirdly my hands were normal. There were no powers when I needed them the most.

I struggled against the grip, trying to see what it was that was clutching to my feet, it was too dark.

"Oh my God, I'm about to die?" I mumbled trembling.

"Why did you come if you're so scared?" I heard a familiar voice say the words I was certain I had heard before.

"Jayden!"

"Yes my love", came to his pain-laced voice.

I crutched to the ground to see him properly. He was badly beaten, and injured. My heart clutched painfully. Did Uriel do this to him?

Lightening flashed, and thunder rumbled from a distance, alerting us of a coming downpour.

I bent over him, feeling his body to see if he was bleeding, but he seemed fine. I could tell he had a lot of injuries and he was in so much pain though.

Without thinking, I bent low, and planted a kiss on his forehead, tears streaming down my cheeks.

His strong hands came around my waist, pulling me into a tight embrace. He was impressively strong for someone in his current state.

"Don't cry my sweet", he muttered against my skin, sending warmth down my body.

The rain came, pouring heavily.

Jayden let out a groan as he pushed me to the ground, and rolled over me, to shield me from the rain.

"Hold on tight my love, we'd have to wait a little while before they arrive", He whispered against my skin.
