Chapter 26 - We found a trail

Jayden's POV

"It had better be for a good reason that you pulled me out of that", I said, giving Eric a playful rib jab, but he kept a straight face.

"We found a trail", Eric said, his voice cold and distant.

What was wrong? I was starting to get worried, Eric was rarely ever this way.

"Where did the trail lead?"

"It led to the outskirts of folk towns, but suddenly, it disappeared".

"Disappeared?" I asked, puzzled.

Eric and the white brothers were helping me investigate Eric's hideout.

"We caught his scent and his footprint, but it stopped at a point and did not lead forward or backward", Eric elaborated.

He must have gone through a portal, like he did earlier. I found that quite strange. I didn't know cold ones had such power or any power at all.

I had to do intensive research on these creatures, but first, I needed to confront Eric.

"Is something wrong, man?" I asked, eyeing him suspiciously.

"Nothing".

"Is it Betty? I noticed you've been quite cold to each other lately".

"I said it's nothing", Eric said, coolly.

"Eric!"

"Fine, you want to know Jayden? We had a very big fight, and guess who it was about?"

"Who?" I asked, perplexed.

"You!" He breathed angrily, wheeling around and heading for the door, before I could recover from my shock.

What did Jayden mean by me? Why was he, and Betty fighting about me?

I had never really spoken to Betty, apart from the occasional courteous heys. I knew how protective werewolves were when it came to their mates, especially Alphas and Betas.

Besides, I saw Betty as nothing more than my best friend's mate. When she tried to be nice or strike up conversations, I politely ignored her.

I would deal with Eric later, but for now, I had to find out more about Uriel.

I decided to go to an ancient bookstore, with a wizard-looking owner, I had recently discovered. From the last time I checked in, it contained ancient books on different creatures I wasn't aware existed.

I walked back to my room, expecting to see Jovita sleeping but I was in for a shock.

She had her back to me. It looked like she was searching for something with her eyes, as she stood at the spot looking lost. Her beautiful, hot, curvy body was wrapped in my white towel. It looked like she was coming out of the shower as her hair was still wet.

I gulped as my eyes traced her long, slim, white, hot legs. Jovita was driving me crazy.

I had been with many women in my life, and I had never felt this way.

My wolf growled, pushing me forward, but I held my balance. I wouldn't take Jovita when my wolf was in control, I could hurt her. There was no telling what would happen, as my wolf had never actually wanted any woman in my past.

My wolf groaned, urging me forward with much force this time.

"Tu dois te calmer, elle n'est pas prête encore, donc nous ne pouvons pas l'avoir. Tu ne veux pas lui faire de mal, n'est-ce pas?" I said to my wolf in my Country language. It was the first time my wolf and I were having a conflict.

My wolf growled a reply, residing angrily to the back of my head. He had to obey me whether or not he wanted to.

"Did you just speak French?" Jovita asked, startling me.

"Yes, I came from France, remember?" I answered, trying my best not to stare at her bare shoulders.

Her pulp, pink lips curved slightly in a smile.

"I keep forgetting those details". Can I wear this?" She asked holding my furry, white sweater and its matching white jogger trousers.

"You can have whatever you want, all I have is yours Mon amour".

I spotted a blush before she hurriedly turned away from me, and it made me feel good.

I was falling in love with Jovita, as much as I was adamant about admitting it. I had never been in love with anyone, so it was all new to me, this feeling of wanting to protect and possess. I always wanted to be near for a reason I couldn't fathom.

"I have a little adventure, mind tagging along?" I asked, walking up to her, and wrapping my arms around her slim waist. I had been trying not to, but I couldn't help myself.

"What's the adventure about?" She asked, her lovely, turquoise eyes burning. I could see she was trying to hide her nervousness.

I smiled and planted a slow kiss on her lips. It was slow at first, but when she opened her lips to let me in, I couldn't help myself.

I lifted her, and placed her on my dresser, kissing her fiercely.

I heard her gasp. She was probably shocked at my hastiness.

"Fuck", I muttered, letting go of her. I didn't want to lose control, but it seemed like with her, I was always out of control.

"I'd leave you to get ready", I said, hastily walking out of the room, before I lost my last strain of restraint.
