Chapter 27 - Shall we?

Jovita's POV

I sat at the edge of the dresser still trying to catch my breath. What had just happened? I wondered.

I could feel my heart palpitating wildly, and I slowly traced my fingers to my lips. It was swollen and sore.

I had never seen Jayden that way. He looked like he had been about to devour me, his hazel eyes turning a shade close to fiery gold. And suddenly he stilled and walked away.

Did he lose his appetite? Didn't he find me appealing enough? I pondered, a little heartbroken. I have heard stories of mates who didn't want their mates.

I dressed hastily, wincing a little bit when I felt a slight pain around my neck region.

I pulled my hair into a rough bun and carefully examined the region. I could see it was a bit red. And what was that I noticed? Were does… oh my gosh, are those teeth marks?

Well, you might be wondering, what's there to be so happy about a simple hickey? Well, this isn't just one simple hickey, Jayden just marked me.

Marking one's mate, especially by the male, was a way of saying I accept.

I could remember feeling a brief sting, followed by a sweet, soothing, pleasurable sensation, but I had no idea that was what had happened.

One moment he marks me, and the other he acts like I'm not wanted, I thought as I fitted my tiny feet into his large, white Crocs. I had no other footwear options.

When I got outside, he was leaning on his silver Honda Civic. That was one of the best 2023 cars from the last I remembered. Talk about some powerful, wealthy family.

He winked when I reached him, taking in my look with a smile, which made me blush.

He looked nice in his blue trousers, white shirt, and white sneakers. His hair was packed in a neat bun.

"Shall we?" He asked, opening the car door for me.

"Thanks", I giggled as I entered and he shut the door. I didn't know guys still held car doors.

The drive was silent at first. Jayden seemed lost in thoughts. When I couldn't bear the silence, I decided to strike up a conversation.

"You haven't still told me where we're going", I said, hoping it would lift his saddened expression.

What was wrong with him? I thought. I kept hearing the name Betty in his thoughts.

"You'll see", he said, smiling at me.

I recoiled in my seat, giving up.

Why was he thinking about Betty? My mind flashed to the dagger stares she had been giving me recently, and the mean things she and her crew have been saying about me. Was all that because she had something with Jayden?

I could feel jealousy burn through me, and I didn't try to ignore or deny the feeling this time. I was jealous!

Shoot, I was starting to develop feelings for Jayden, and it was probably more than I wanted.

Maybe that would explain his behaviour earlier, I thought. Kissing me with such vigour, and stopping abruptly, leaving me confused.

I fought back the tears that were struggling to spill. I was too emotional sometimes, and now would be very embarrassing to cry.

"Nothing is going on between Betty and me", Jayden said, startling me.

"I would never get used to hearing each other's thoughts thing", I said inwardly.

"Me neither", he replied with a smirk, making me laugh.

"I was only thinking of Betty because Eric said they fought, and I stopped earlier because I was a bit out of control, I don't want to hurt you, my love", he said. His eyes burned with an intensity I'd never seen.

I nodded believing in him, because I couldn't bear not to.

"Why didn't you tell me Betty was picking on you?" He asked, his voice sounding angry.

"Calm down, Betty is my age mate, and I can handle her myself", I replied.

"That's my Luna", he said with a smile.

I sat stunned for a while, staring at him. First, did he just call me his Luna? And secondly, a she-wolf was called a Luna only when her mate was an Alpha. And from the last I checked, Jayden was Eric's Beta, so why did he just call me Luna?

"I'm sorry my love, that came out as a mistake", he said, avoiding my eyes.

Was Jayden hiding something from me? I thought.

"Did it hurt?" he asked, his hands circling my neck.

He was trying to change the conversation, so he was indeed hiding something.

"No", I said quietly.

"I'm sorry, I should have asked you first". See what I said about losing control?"

I sat quietly ferning annoyance. I deserved to be angry, he was meant to ask me before marking me. Not that I minded any bit though.

I was mated to a super hot, handsome, most wanted gentleman. How in the world was I meant to be angry?

"It's fine", I said after a while.

"Thanks", he said, pulling me into a hug, and placing a kiss on my forehead.

"Let's go", he said.

Just then, I realized we'd been in front of an ancient-looking, creepy shop for a while now.

The signpost read "magic, glyphs, and mystical books". Creepy as the shop right?

Why were we here? I thought to myself but decided not to ask questions, I would get an answer in a wee bit. I just had to be patient.
