Chapter 31 - Different

Jovita's POV

I sat on the empty bench in the cafeteria. I was waiting for Maddie and Anna.

Maddie was in the History department, Annawas in the fashion department, and I was in the Medical department, but we always had lunch together.

We usually waited until each of us was done with class before we ate, and today, I was the first. Nine out of ten times, I was usually the last.

"Hey pretty", Anna said, giving me a peck on the cheek as she joined me at our table. Her cheeks looked flushed, and I was certain she had been with her mate, Conan.

Conan was one of the Ancient Alphas, probably one of the most powerful, but he always stuck with Jayden's crew, the white brothers or the sexy five as girls in school called them. The much more powerful company, and from the look of things, his pack didn't mind. Not that they would dare protest anyway.

"Why are your cheeks so red?" I asked, rolling my eyes. Conan was too much of an experienced guy for my shy, naive friend.

"They aren't", she lied obviously, doing a facepalm. Annadid that only when she was nervous.

I decided to leave her alone before she started feeling uncomfortable.

"Who's the new girl with Betty?"Anna said nodding towards Betty and her click. They were a few tables from us, their plates loaded with expensive niceties.

I noticed the girl Jayden had been hugging at the party was the person Annawas referring to. Was she in our school now or what?

I felt a pang of jealousy at the memory of their touching bodies.

"You know her?" Anna said, observing my changed expression.

"No, but I think she's a friend of Jayden".

"The one he was hugging at the party?"

"Yep".

We watched as Betty said something to the girl, and she laughed loudly. How did she end up with Betty? I thought.

Betty said something to her again, and their attention turned to me and Anna. A frown had settled on Betty's face and her dagger stares had intensified.

The girl threw me a not-too-nice glance, and whispered something to Betty, erupting a laugh from her and other crew members.

From the expression on her face and the looks she threw at me, I was certain the girl wasn't one of my biggest fans. I couldn't say the feeling wasn't mutual, so I couldn't care less.

I took a bite of my hamburger as Maddie joined us, the hamburger here tasted heavenly. It was probably one of the best things, apart from my best friends that I loved in Torin High.

"You love Jayden too", my inner voice whispered, and I cursed at the voice, my cheeks burning red.

When I raised my head, Maddie was staring at me with quizzical eyes.

"What?" I asked her.

She eyed me cautiously.

"Hi to you too Jovita", she said ferning annoyance.

"I'm sorry babe, hi", I said.

"I guess you were too lost in thoughts of Jayden to notice my presence", she said with a giggle which Annajoined in.

I glared at them and went back to eating my heavenly hamburger.

"You looked good girl, I mean stunning! I love your dress, your earrings, and your hairstyle", Maddie said with a smile.

"Thanks", I reply.

I was wearing a crazy, dark blue jean with a faded blue shirt, an orange sweater, matching orange sneakers, and an orange handbag.

My hair was divided into two, and each part was woven. On my ears were large, silver, round, dangling earrings, and on my nose was a tiny, golden nose ring. I wore a little make-up to add some colour to my face.

I was usually the simple dresser, but today I was feeling nervous, and whenever I'm nervous, I kinda go overboard with my fashion and mostly everything else I do.

Maddie reached out to check my necklace, when she gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. I could tell she was trying to hold back from screaming.

"What?" I asked, a bit scared.

"Maddie?" Annaasked, giving her a "what's the drama all about" look.

"Come over and see what I'm seeing", Maddie breathed to Anna.

Annacame over and equally gasped when she saw what Maddie was staring at.

"What? You guys are killing me with curiosity here", I said to them.

"When were you going to tell us?" Maddie asked with a serious expression.

I could feel my heart beating fast. Maddie was rarely serious, but when she was, it meant a lot.

"Tell you what?" I asked blankly.

"That Jayden marked you", Anna said in a shrill voice.

Oh my gosh! I mentally face-palmed. I had been hanging out with my besties all week, and I forgot to tell you about the marking incident.

My mind has been broadening on my visions and who I was - that bit I hadn't shared with my besties either. I couldn't share it, which made me feel guilty. We never kept secrets from each other.

"Hey chill guys, I'm so sorry, I've been doing quite a lot of thinking, and it skipped my mind", I pleaded with a pouty face I knew they couldn't resist.

"Fine we forgive you, but please don't keep things from us again", Maddie said, and I nodded feeling terrible. I knew I was already breaking that promise.

"I find it quite intriguing", Maddie said, still running her fingers over my mark. "Jayden is Eric's Beta right?"

"Yes", I replied, curious.

"All Alphas mark their mates the same way, so as Betas, and ordinary werewolves… but Jovita, you're carrying an Alphas mark, my mark and yours are similar", Maddie said.

I gulped. What did she mean by that? Was Jayden an Alpha? Maybe it explained why he called me his Luna.

I shook my head. The thought of him being an Alpha made me feel more undeserving of him. I was an outcast, a low class, and a nobody, why in the world would my mate be an Alpha, and from the rumours, a very powerful one at that?

"Hmmm", Maddie mumbled.

"I guess strange things happen", I said feeling a bit nervous, I couldn't allow myself to think Jayden was an Alpha.

An Alpha like him had the power to reject his mate and choose someone better, what if he realised that, and tossed me away?

I felt my heart crumble at the thought of that, I couldn't imagine a life without Jayden. I was already deeply in love with him.

Maddie was about to say something when her eyes strayed towards Betty's table, and I saw Betty coming towards us, her face livid.

I took a deep breath, mentally preparing myself for whatever it was that was about to happen.
