Chapter 21 - The Kiss

Jovita POV

"Oh my gawd, Jayden had just been ravishingly kissing me a few minutes ago", I felt my cheeks still burning red.

I stared down at our hands tightly entwined, and a smile crept to my lips.

Suddenly, I noticed his body tense, and I followed his gaze focused on something, his eyes narrowed, and concentrated.

"A cold one is here", I heard in my head. My body stilled. I recognized that voice.

It was Jayden's voice, more like Jayden's thoughts. I stared at him to make sure I wasn't imagining things.

"Eric, Seth, Phil, Conan, gather around, a cold one is here, and I think he not just any cold one".

I heard it again, I could hear Jayden's thoughts. "Oh my god", I yelled in my head, excitedly.

He turned to look at me, his eyes narrowing, and a slow smile spread on his face.

"The bond is getting stronger", he said, drawing me into his arms, and planting a deep, brief, caring kiss on my lips.

"I have to gather the others, stay with the rest of the party guests, be safe mate", he said, his eyes twinkling with love. With that, he vanished. I could say like literally vanished, if I had blinked my eyes in an instant I wouldn't have known he had been in front of me.

I stood at the corner of the crowded room, worrying about Jayden. I noticed the Alphas of the various packs leaving the crowded sitting room through a door leading somewhere I didn't know.

I knew Jayden and the others were probably gathering the strongest. My eyes followed the movement of about six Alphas from the ancient pack coming to take a stand at different positions in the room. The crowd was still oblivious to what was happening.

I turned to my side and noticed Betty glaring at me intently, a not-too-kind expression on her angelic face. Her friends patted her back, leading her away.

What had I done this time? I wondered, walking deeper into the crowd to see if I could catch a glimpse of my best friends.

I tried listening to Jayden's thoughts to assess the situation, but it was fast and calculating and I couldn't make out what was going on.

I felt my stomach rumble, I hadn't eaten anything this evening I remembered. I decided to pick a snack or two from where it was displayed by the far end of the room.

Yeah, I know what's probably going through your mind right now. I'm a foodie! I love everything about food, and I can eat under very tense situations, including this one. I needed my energy to fight, after all, I reassured myself.

When I reached the refreshment table, I took a helping of two lovely-looking sandwiches, some chocolate cookies, and a thin slice of velvet cake. I took a glass of wine and walked to the table I had sighted earlier. It was quiet, away from the crowd, and I loved my peace.

I was on my second sandwich when I felt a presence around me. I turned but saw no one, my heartbeat picked in rhythm. I took in a deep breath, assuring myself that it was all some sought of imagination.

I stared across the room, to where the crowd was, and noticed it was getting tense in there. I ignored everything, immersing myself in the meal in front of me.

"Delicious isn't it?" A cold, lovely voice said, sending adrenaline through my body.

A looked up, tensed, and shocked, staring into the amber eyes of a young, handsome male. His hair was cut low giving him a mature look, and perfectly highlighting his chiselled jaws and lovely face.

He had a smile on his handsome face, and I gasped as I realized who it was.

"Oh I see you recognize me now", he said with a chuckle, placing a cold hand on my trembling hands. I thought you had forgotten me after all those years".

I gulped, and I saw his eyes follow my movement. I could see a feeling of hurt flash through his eyes.

"You're scared of me now, just like the others, I haven't changed that much, Jovita". For a moment I could see his eyes were glistening with tears, but he quickly concealed the emotion with a smile. He looked too perfect, too real. If I hadn't known the man in front of me for years, I would have concluded he was Lucifer in human form.

"Won't you say something?" He said, tilting his head to the side, the movement was flawless and graceful.

"I… I… don't know what to say".

My whole body was frozen, and my heart was beating wildly.

"Jovita, Jovita, don't be scared my sweet, I'm coming for you", Jayden's voice said in my head.

I would have let out a sigh of relief if only my companion's eyes were not intently studying my face.

"You don't need to say anything, besides you were eating before I joined, you can go ahead before your food gets cold", he said.

I stared at my hands which were still under his. It felt frozen from the coldness of his.

"What are you doing here, Uriel?" I asked, mustering up a little courage.

"Good question", he said, rising. He looked like he was floating, his every movement was swift, effortless, and graceful.

In an unbelievable instant, he was behind me, his cold hand resting on one of my shoulders. I could feel the dark aura emanating from him.

"I came for you", he whispered in my eyes.

My whole body froze.

"Stay away from her", Jayden's deep, lovely voice commanded, startling both of us.

"Or what?" Uriel asked, suddenly in front of Jayden, a mocking smile on his face.

If I had thought Jayden was the fastest mortal I had ever seen, I would have been very wrong, though that was if the Uriel standing in front of me was a mortal.

"Or I would strangle the life out of your cold body", Jayden threatened, his eyes flashing with anger, I could see shudders running through his spine.

"Let's see how that goes", Uriel said walking towards me. In an instant, Jayden was in front of me, grabbing Uriel by his neck, and smashing him on the finely decorated metal table I had been dining on, sending the content flying. The table is divided into two, crumbling like mere wood.

I heard a chuckle erupt from Uriel.

"Quite impressive", he said, swiftly rising, and sending Jayden to the wall without a movement of any part of his body.

"Let's see what you've got", Uriel said, picking Jayden by the neck, like a piece of toy. He broke through the walls where Jayden's body had already made a crack, and in an instant vanished with Jayden.

I felt my pulse racing… What the heck was going on?
