Chapter 20 - Tread carefully

Jayden's POV

I caught the scent of my mate as I hugged Jade, giving her a peck on her forehead, but when I turned, she was nowhere in sight.

Apologizing to Jade, I went in search of her.

I followed her scent to the lady's restroom but stood there awkwardly not knowing what to do. I saw a group of girls giggling, and staring at me, my presence must have painted a funny picture.

"Jovita", I called but got no reply. I tried again, but still no reply. I decided she wasn't in there and headed out of the house to continue my search, maybe she had gone home. I decided to trace my way to her house to see if I could find her.

I had run only a few distance when I picked up her scent again. She was sitting on one of the benches the beach provided, a few meters from my home.

I approached her slowly unsure of what to say or do. We hadn't spoken in weeks, and I felt awkward.

She turned to stare at me, when I got close enough, but turned back as if she hadn't seen me, I noticed there were tears in her eyes. My heart clutched painfully, I cared for her much more than I wanted.

I wondered if I was the reason she was crying right now, her thoughts were pointing in that direction but she was trying her best to tuck them away.

I sat on the bench beside her, not saying anything, quietly watching the calm sea. I felt, rather than saw her move away from me, and it hurt.

I was at fault though, I had been so angry at her, and instead of letting out my feelings, I had run away as I usually did.

When I was younger, and I got pissed, I ran away and hide in my favourite, secret cave until my mom came looking for me, and now a part of me longed to be found, to be picked first.

I shut my eyes trying to quiet my emotions, I needed to be the strong one here.

"Jovita", I said, turning to face her but I was met with a cold silence.

A chilly sea wind blew, sending splashes of water towards us. It was a not-too-cold summer night, and the cold felt good, but I saw her shiver, her white hands clutching her jacket tightly.

"You should go indoors, you'll catch a cold", I tried again. This time she threw me a glance and returned her gaze to the sea. I could see the tears still flowing from her eyes.

I reached out for her but she pulled away, rising from the beach, and walking towards the calm sea. I felt my heart ache, she was probably more angrier than I thought.

I sat still unsure of what to do, trying my best to figure out what was going on in her head.

"Jovita, what's wrong", I tried again, feeling frustrated.

"I want to be alone", she said in a low, childlike voice that broke my heart.

Without thinking I stood up and walked towards where she was standing, backing me.

I pulled her close from behind, wrapping my arms around her cold, small body, taking in the scent of her. She smelt like strawberries. I sensed my desire building, I always felt that way when I was around her.

She tried to push me off but I held on tightly, until she stepped on my feet, causing me to instantly release her.

She turned to glare at me, her turquoise eyes glowing in anger. I was shocked at how angry she was while still nursing the pain I felt in my feet.

"Stay away from me", she cried.

I knew I should have listened to her, but following instructions has never been my thing.

I walked up to her until I was only an inch away, staring into her eyes. She looked down, but not before I caught the shyness in her eyes, and the blush on her cheeks.

I slowly lifted my hands to her face, cupping it, and turning her to face me. I loved her shyness, it made me want her even more. I saw her swallow, she was still trying her best to shield her thoughts from me.

"Jovita, I'm sorry for hurting you my sweet, but most of all, I'm sorry this", I said, capturing her plump, pink lips.

She gasped, parting her lips, I could feel her body still against mine. I felt desire rush through me, and there was no going back now.

I kissed her fiercely taking in her essence, and ravishing her mouth, no one had ever tasted so sweet. Slowly, she returned the kiss, exploring my mouth hesitantly. Her innocence and reluctance made my blood boil with excitement. It made me want to own her, to teach her the things she didn't know.

I released her face, slowly wrapping my hands around her slim waist. I was certain I could cover it with one of my hands.

I pulled her closer, my hands slowly sliding down her back, inhaling her sweet, erotic scent, and relishing the softness of her body. There was something she did to me that I had never felt with anyone else. She made me want her more than I have wanted anyone else. A look at her lovely, sexy body and beautiful face sent my blood boiling.

Slowly, I entwined my fingers in her long, curly, black hair, tilting her head, and placing soft kisses on her long, slender neck. I heard her let out a low moan, causing my desire to surge.

I pulled her into an embrace, drinking in her every essence, and trying to calm down my raging desire. My wolf was impatient today, and I wasn't ready to take her yet, I wanted to bid my time slowly with her.

I broke the embrace, wrapping her jacket properly around her, and leading her back to the party.

The party was well gone when we returned. I was just entering the crowded living room when I caught the stench of something that made my blood boil. A cold one!

I was shocked, a cold one showing up amid young-blooded werewolves was suicidal, except he knew exactly what he was capable of.

I had to tread carefully. This might not be just one ordinary vampire.
