Jayden's POV
"What the heck do you think you're doing Jayden?" My inner voice questioned, as I ran through the forest with Jovita. I couldn't give myself a reasonable explanation for what I had just done. How do I explain the impromptu appearance?
I had been thinking about Jovita all day throughout the day, and suddenly I was in her friend's room whisking her out without a second thought. I was still wondering how she managed to find her way out of my house earlier today. And for a strange reason I couldn't fathom, I craved her presence.
"You missed her," my inner voice teased.
I shook my head. I didn't miss her. Why would I miss her? She was my mate, yes, I found her attractive, yes, but I had no feelings for her, not yet, not one that I was ready to admit.
The cold wind blew past us as I ran, I had reduced my pace to prevent her from catching a cold, but I could still feel her body shivering against my arm. She looked pale and innocent, and she had a confused look on her beautiful, heart-shaped face.
I felt a bit guilty. Maybe I had been too harsh with my accusations earlier this morning. She might have no idea of what had transpired, after all, she didn't look like she was herself when she strangled that vampire, and afterwards, she fell into a vegetative state. Maybe I had been wrong to make my conclusions based on assumptions.
I felt her little, dainty hands clutch to his black, furry sweaters, she was cold.
I had to stop somewhere, though I had no were in mind. I had just blindly followed my emotions.
I inhaled the strong scent of the sea, alerting me that she was only a few minutes from my home. I decided to stop by the beach, we could at least talk privately there and air out our misunderstanding.
I stopped by my favourite tree and set her carefully on her feet. She released me slowly, as though reluctant, I noticed. I felt my heartbeat skip a little. Why? I wondered. Jovita had an effect on me I could not yet decipher.
"Is everything thing okay?" She asked, her expression going from perplexed to worried.
"No".
She stared at me, waiting.
"I shouldn't have reacted the way I did earlier this morning, I'm sorry, I just don't understand".
"I don't understand either, Jayden", she said in a low, soothing voice, her turquoise eyes glowing with concern.
No one had ever called my name that way, no one had ever looked at me with so much care. I was used to people expecting protection and care from me not the other way round. The only person who had ever cared for me was my mother, and she died when I was just ten, a young boy still trying to decipher his dreams. My father loved me dearly, but he was not one to show care.
Without realizing it, I took a step forward. I had no idea what I wanted to do, it was as though my body was moving of its own will. It was what Jovita did to me. She attracted me in a way I couldn't fathom. Yes, she's extraordinarily beautiful, but I had seen girls equally beautiful, but they had never had this effect on me. With her, I felt vulnerable. I craved her presence.
She tilted her long, white neck to the side, probably trying to understand what I was doing.
Desire surged through me as I stared at the delicate flesh. She was wearing a stylish peach, a swollen sweater that exposed one of her shoulders a little. I bit my lips as my gaze travelled around the exposed skin, I could feel my groin turning hard.
I turned away from her quickly. I wasn't sure how long I could be patient before I took her. I knew she was a virgin from her thoughts, so I needed to tread carefully, I was used to more experienced girls. My series of past mistresses were all way more experienced than me.
I took in a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heartbeat. My wolf was hungry too.
I stilled when I felt her soft hands on my sleeves. She slowly pulled me to face her, and I obeyed as if controlled. If my heart was racing earlier now it was probably flying faster than a falcon.
She bit her, pink, plump lower lips, blinking her long, black lashes.
"Is something wrong? You can share with me if you wish to. Is it about the morning incident? I'm fine, I'm a little confused myself but that can be sorted if we talk", she said.
I knew I was meant to be listening to her, but my gaze was on her lips, and without thinking, I threw her into my arms, wrapping my hands around her tiny waist.
She let out a low gasp, her hands sprawling against my chest. I was certain she could feel my racing heartbeat.
She looked up to meet my gaze, the traces of shock still on her lovely face.
"You drive me crazy, my sweet", I said into her hair, inhaling its fragrance.
She stilled against my body, quickly averting her eyes. Her thoughts were going wild, and her heartbeat picked rhythm too. It made me smile.
And because she didn't move, and I didn't move either, the air tensed. Slowly, I lowered my head to the same level as hers and brushed my lips to hers. It was soft and plump.
I tilted my head to look into her eyes. I could see traces of fear, but beneath those traces, I could see a burning desire as fierce as mine.
He smiled, lowering my head to capture her lips, but jolted as I felt a presence behind one of the forest trees.
"Jovita", the voice behind the tree called. It sounded painful and broken.
