Jayden's POV
"Jovita, Jovita!" I screamed, as I felt her slip away, her heartbeat was slowly fading.
I ran faster, cursing myself for leaving my mate all alone in the first place even after I saw Uriel.
I had heard her say Uriel, and I was sure it was that bastard who was trying to kill her.
My wolf growled again, running faster. I had never known I could go this fast. At this point, my wolf was probably travelling at the speed of light.
I reduced my pace, as I reached the meadow, finding it empty. I came to a halt and tried to detect her location from her scent, as I could neither hear her thoughts, nor her heartbeat anymore.
Her scent felt stronger towards the east of the meadow, so I headed there, praying silently that I wasn't too late. My wolf growled louder at the thought of finding her dead.
I figured out my prayers weren't necessary, as I was shocked to the core when I reached Jovita.
Jovita was glowing white, her black hair flapping wildly. The little part where it was white glowed brightly. Her turquoise eyes were glowing brightly. Her hands were raised towards the vampire, who was choking, his feet dangling above the ground. It looked like he was being strangled by a strong hand, as I could see the pressure around his neck, but there was no physical contact between his neck and Jovita's outstretched hands.
I could feel a force around her as I neared her. When I tried to touch her, it sent me flying towards the nearest tree.
I yelped in pain as my back clashed with a giant tree. I wondered if I had broken a few bones. How in the world did Jovita get so strong?
My hunch was right from the very beginning, there was more to my mate than meet the eyes.
I thought of letting her kill the vampire, but she looked very weak already, and I had to stop her, though I didn't know how.
It was probably the first time she was using her powers which had come on reflex due to the danger she had been in. I was sure she was out of control.
I had to stop her before she exhausted her energy. I wasn't sure of what would happen if she did.
I knew trying to hold her would be fruitless, as the force emanating from her body was too much. The vampire was already on the verge of death.
"Jovita", I called, hoping she could at least hear me. She looked possessed.
"Jovita, please", I shouted again, desperate this time, as I could see her skin paling and her hair whitening.
She let out a gasp and collapsed on the floor with a low thud.
The vampire dropped as well, gasping wildly. It was sure the luckiest day of his life.
I ignored him, and rushed to Jovita, taking her into my arms, she was ice cold, and her pulse was very faint.
The vampire seeing that I had no interest in him, fled.
It pained me to see the man who just almost killed my mate flee, but there was nothing I could do, her safety came first.
I lifted her cold body from the ground, summoning Eric with my thoughts, to go after the vampire.
With that done, I was left with one problem; where to take Jovita. It looked like she was getting colder with the passing seconds, plus the cold wind was not helping, and I needed to take her indoors quickly.
Though other students were still roaming around due to the full moon workout, I was certain her absence would soon be noticed by her friends, and I was sure her parents would be worried if she didn't return home tonight, I picked out that they were quite protective of her, from her thoughts.
I wasn't sure when she was going to wake up, and I needed to heal her, if things got beyond my capacity, see a healer quickly and quietly. No one could know about what had happened in the meadow or it caused an unwanted stir. Besides, the power she had displayed earlier was not werewolf-like.
I decided to take her to my house as it was currently the safest place for her. Tomorrow I would take her home after cooking up a story to tell her parents. I prayed fervently that she would have regained consciousness by morning, that way her disappearance would be easier to explain.
Having made my decision, I laid her on my back and took off, running as fast as I could. I could hear her heartbeat growing fainter with each passing moment.
Fear filled my heart, as I ran faster through the woods.
