Jayden's POV
"I couldn't catch up with him, he took off to the water again". He must know that I'm way faster than other werewolves, and not ready to risk a chance", I said to Eric, a bit frustrated. I had lost Uriel yet again.
Eric turned to stare at me.
"You mean he was there the whole time?" He asked.
"Yes", I replied. This was the third time Eric had asked this question, and at this point, I was on the verge of screaming… though I think shouting would better describe my emotions.
He conveyed messages in his thoughts, messages he'd never dare to say to his Alpha aloud.
He was blaming Jovita for distracting me from catching Uriel. He felt she was a distraction to our mission, and also too low-class to be my mate.
I glared at him trying to control my anger, I could feel shudders ripping through my body. My wolf was harder to control when it came to Jovita.
Eric stared at me shocked and curious, he had never me this way.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean any harm", He said, looking concerned.
I nodded and walked away from him. I had to keep my mind clear to tame my wolf.
I stopped halfway to the door and spun to face Eric. He looked at me questioningly.
I hesitated. I wasn't sure it was a good idea to share what I was about to say, plus I wasn't sure how he would take the information, as I was still struggling to take it in myself.
"Jayden?" He prompted.
"I know this might sound absurd and implausible, Eric, but I think Uriel was at the meadow that night because of Jovita".
"He was hunting her?"
"I thought that was the case at first, but decided against it, as I've caught him silently watching her, twice". She was alone each time, and he could easily have harmed her but he didn't".
Hmm. Eric muttered pacing the room.
We were by our lovely, cosy house by Foxtown's seaside. The lovely ocean wind, and lush, green trees always gave the air a refreshing feel. It was the reason I had chosen the house, ignoring the fact that it had cost a fortune, and it was quite secluded.
The forest provided me with a running, and training ground, while the sea provided serenity.
"Do you think he might be acquainted with her?" Eric suddenly asked, pausing his pacing.
I had thought of that too, but they were too opposing creatures, there was no way they could be acquainted except she had met him when he was still human, and that was impossible since Jovita had been in Foxtown all her life, according to the rumour. But then, she had called his name at the meadow last night with a tone filled with recognition. How did she know him?
"I don't think so", I said to Eric.
"So what's the logical explanation then?
"I think he's attracted to her.
Eric looked at me like I was insane, and burst into a feat of laughter.
Though I was quite irritated by his laughter, I couldn't blame him. What I had just suggested was quite implausible, werewolves and vampires never shared an intimacy, and hatred was the only thing they shared in common.
But I was certain the look Uriel had in his eyes was far from hatred. It was more of an intricate adoration.
Last night, we chased him through the borders of Foxtown, close to Alaska. We expected him to stay for a while, as I had scarred him with my claws, but he managed to escape.
I was puzzled about the fact that he kept returning. He didn't do that in other places. When he had been cut in France, my home, he had fled, same with Alaska, but he had remained in Forkstown irrespective of how often they hunted him. Something strong was keeping him here. "Was it Jovita?" He said aloud.
"Probably, the facts all add up", Eric said, startling me out of my thoughts. He had a muffin stuck in his mouth.
I hadn't been aware that Eric was listening to my thoughts, now I understood Jovita's craving for thought privacy.
"I'm still assuming, so please, this stays between us", I warned. I was already on Seth's side, I didn't want to intensify the hatred.
According to Eric, Seth had been attracted to Jovita for a long time, praying and hoping she would be his mate. But he had been disappointed when his mate turned to be someone else, he hadn't stopped loving her, ignoring his real mate.
My wolf growled. "How many guys do you have trailing after you, Jovita?" I mumbled.
Eric turned to stare at me with a smile.
I smiled back, hoping he'd come to terms with the fact that Jovita was my mate, and his opinion did not matter when it came to my mate.
I turned to go out to the balcony upstairs when a seizing pain arrested me.
I held my chest. I had never experienced anything like this.
"Jovita!" I thought. Was something wrong with Jovita?
I rushed downstairs, put on a pair of trousers, and headed to the woods. If something happened to Jovita I would be furious and disoriented. I had to go to the meadow quickly.
