Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 New Goals

Detectives have their own website where they share strange cases they encounter.

Most of the cases are popular among detectives, who eagerly contribute their intelligence to help solve these mysteries.

However, there is a particular type of case that most detectives are reluctant to touch, and it has even become an unspoken rule within the industry, a topic rarely discussed.

These are cases involving supernatural occurrences. Such cases are known on the website as "Inner Cases," stored at the bottom of the site, seldom unearthed.

The vampire from before was a relatively easy target that Wen Wen found after sifting through a pile of Inner Cases.

Now, he was going to find another easy case to enhance his superpowers.

In the rented apartment, Wen Wen moved his mouse continuously, his eyes quickly scanning the screen.

"Hmm, this one looks pretty good."

At ten o'clock in the evening, the moonlight couldn't penetrate the thick clouds, and the dark fog enveloped the entire city.

From the outside, in Green Source High School, the second dormitory building, a dim orange light was visible in a dorm room at the end of the second floor.

By this time, the lights in the school had already gone out. Normally, the students should be asleep by now, so clearly, this dorm shouldn't still be lit.

Inside the dormitory, three students were sitting together playing cards, with a candle placed in the center of them.

"Haha, bomb! I win!" A slightly chubby student clenched his fist and shouted.

The thin, dark-skinned student next to him was startled and quickly covered his mouth.

"Pan Dapeng, lower your voice! Do you want to call that old man here?"

Hearing about the old man, the chubby Pan Dapeng immediately shut his mouth. The dormitory manager in this building was a very scary person in their eyes, always appearing unexpectedly, and very strict, showing no mercy in his actions.

After that, the three students intentionally lowered their voices and continued playing cards. Although they were scared of the dorm manager, they couldn't stop playing. They were only thirteen or fourteen years old, at the age where they loved to have fun.

Once they were fully engrossed in playing, they lost track of time, and soon it was midnight. They were lucky that they hadn't been discovered by the dorm manager yet.

"Alright, that's enough. We have to get up early for class tomorrow." The thin student, Li Wenliang, yawned and stood up, intending to go to the bathroom.

As soon as he opened the door, he saw an old man with a face full of wrinkles standing at the door, his expression grim, staring straight at him. His urge to pee was immediately frightened away.

It was the dormitory manager!

Li Wenliang awkwardly smiled and then closed the door. To his surprise, the dorm manager just stood there watching him close the door without stopping him, not even blinking!

He walked back with a puzzled expression, wanting to describe the situation outside to his roommates.

But he soon realized that his roommates were staring at him with terrified expressions.

"Strange, how did you know the dorm manager was outside our dorm?" Li Wenliang asked in confusion.

But soon, he realized they weren't scared of the dorm manager.

Two slightly blackened hands were resting on Li Wenliang's shoulders, and a head without eyeballs stretched out from beside him, staring at him expressionlessly!

It turned out that they were scared of this figure!

A strange coldness and uncontrollable fear surged into Li Wenliang's heart. Compared to the creature behind him, the dorm manager suddenly seemed kind...

"Achoo…"

Wen Wen, carrying a huge suitcase, couldn't help sneezing at the train station. The air was so mixed with different smells that he couldn't stand it for a moment.

After gaining the basic abilities of a vampire, his sense of smell had greatly enhanced, like a dog's nose, able to distinguish various scents.

Sweat, body odor, even the smell of sour underwear, he could smell it all clearly.

"So this is Furong River City, a big city with a population of millions. Looks like I'll need to stay here for a while."

As a major city, Furong River City had many strange cases, but these cases were usually unknown to the public. Wen Wen learned that Furong River City had the most "Inner Cases" in the area through some insiders on the detective website.

And he planned to solve these cases one by one. After all, capturing monsters was a mandatory requirement of the Calamity Containment Facility. Only by capturing more monsters could he unlock more of the facility's abilities.

After finding a clean hotel to stay in, Wen Wen opened his laptop.

He had solved quite a few difficult cases before, earning a lot of rewards from various police departments, so he wasn't short on money at all.

"To be on the safe side, let's start with a simple case. Let's see…"

After browsing for a while, Wen Wen locked onto a case.

"Shocking! Three middle school students playing cards at midnight faced a major accident. The reason is surprisingly simple!"

"Another one of those headlines, clearly lacking any substance… but I still can't help but click on it…"

While complaining, Wen Wen started reading the details of the case.

"Hmm, these three middle school students were so scared they ended up in the hospital, one with frostbite and eventually going insane. The dorm manager stood at the door all night, his legs almost giving out, and is also recovering in the hospital…"

Wen Wen rubbed his chin, muttering to himself, "This does seem like a supernatural case, and it doesn't appear too dangerous. None of the ordinary people died, so I probably won't have any trouble either."

He then searched online for more information related to this case and found nothing, which further confirmed his thoughts.

Typically, true supernatural cases can't be found on public platforms for ordinary people. Those bizarre incidents widely circulated online are either too big to cover up or involve someone pretending to be supernatural, none of which matter to Wen Wen.

The fact that this case couldn't be found online only made him more certain it was the kind he was interested in.

Next, he called a friend at the police department to get some internal information. After reviewing it, he made up his mind.

"Great, this will be the first 'Inner Case' handled by Detective Wen Wen... or maybe the second, whatever."

The next day at noon, at the entrance of Pan Dapeng's house, the doorbell rang.

A middle-aged woman, looking haggard and wearing a cashmere sweater, opened the door. She was momentarily stunned by the sight of the person standing outside.

"May I ask what you need?"

"Hello, I'm an insurance verifier from the Federation's Flower Bud Insurance Company. I heard that your son was recently frightened at the school dormitory. I'm here to discuss the specifics of the insurance claim."

Wen Wen, dressed in a cheap black suit and wearing black-framed glasses, politely said while holding a briefcase.
