Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 Ghost Powers and Mutations

At this moment, a young man and woman appeared in Room 224, where Wen Wen had fought the previous night.

"The low temperature hasn't fully dissipated—it happened just recently," said the young man in a cowboy hat as he crouched down, feeling the ground with his hand.

"Is it one of ours?" asked the red-haired girl, dressed in hot pants and white stockings.

"No, the collaborator at the door was likely hypnotized; his memory seems off," the cowboy replied, shaking his head.

He closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, the whites had turned green as he scanned the room. After a moment, he sighed, and his eyes returned to normal.

"Did you find anything?" the girl asked, covering her nose as she caught a whiff of something unpleasant.

"The person last night was cautious and didn't leave many traces, but the aura hasn't fully dissipated. I should be able to track them...

Moreover, judging by the aura, it seems to be a newly awakened superhuman. Let's hope those lunatics don't get to them first; otherwise, they could become a real problem later on."

After leaving the containment facility, Wen Wen manifested his glove and began tapping on it, testing the fundamental abilities of the ghost compared to the vampire's basic powers.

After selecting his options, his body underwent a bizarre transformation, with every cell changing, and then…

And then his clothes fell off…

He had turned into an incorporeal form, but apparently, the containment facility hadn't granted the same ability to his clothing.

"This is… too embarrassing."

Wen Wen now resembled a ghost, capable of floating in the air, invisible to ordinary people, and passing through some objects. However, beyond that, he had no other abilities. It seemed that Qin Shuang's freezing ability was a special skill not included in the ghost's basic powers.

Wen Wen sat awkwardly in his hotel room for about ten minutes, waiting for the cooldown time to pass before switching his body back to normal.

"Even if no one can see me, I don't want to be wandering around naked."

Wen Wen scratched his head in frustration. If he couldn't solve the issue of his clothes disappearing when he switched forms, the usefulness of the ghost physique would be severely limited—at least for him.

"Ordinary clothes probably can't withstand the influence of the containment facility… So what about clothes from the containment facility?"

He opened the silver briefcase and changed into the black trench coat inside. The coat fit him perfectly, enhancing his physique.

"So light… and it barely restricts movement. I might consider wearing this more often."

After changing into the trench coat, Wen Wen tried switching to ghost form again. This time, only a solitary black pair of underwear dropped to the ground…

The containment facility's uniform didn't include underwear…

"Uh… although it's chilly, it's still much better than before. Let's go out and take a look."

Wen Wen made himself invisible, floated out of the room, and wandered around the hotel, savoring the thrill of being invisible.

He teased sensitive cats and dogs, blew cold air on people's necks to give them goosebumps, and peeked into some private matters…

Well, at least he wasn't peeking into the women's bathhouse, so he still had some decency.

After indulging for a while, he realized that the ghost body wasn't all-powerful and had many limitations.

Firstly, there were many metals he couldn't pass through. Additionally, in this state, besides suddenly appearing to scare people, he had no means of attacking others. If he encountered someone capable of touching spirits, he would just be a sitting duck.

So, while this form was novel, it wasn't as practical as the vampire form. However, it might still have significant uses in certain situations.

He floated out of the hotel and looked up at the sky. The once-clear blue sky had turned gray and hazy, with indistinct shadows floating in the air.

In the corners of the streets, he could vaguely see some ethereal figures. These figures had blank expressions and wandered aimlessly.

Those were probably ordinary ghosts. Though still far from being malevolent spirits, Qin Shuang was much stronger than these common ghosts.

"It seems this is the ghost's perspective. The things seen are different from what humans normally see. The figures walking on the ground are ordinary ghosts, but those floating in the sky—what are they?"

Wen Wen squinted, trying to get a clearer view of the hazy shapes in the sky. As he focused, the shapes became clearer.

It was a creature with a human upper body, wings on its back, and a serpentine lower half that writhed as it moved!

When Wen Wen finally saw the creature clearly, it suddenly turned to look at him, its emerald eyes radiating a terrifying madness!

"This is bad! I've drawn its attention!" Wen Wen quickly averted his gaze, but it was too late.

Their gazes locked, forming a thin line of gray mist that connected them. The creature began rapidly flying toward Wen Wen along this line!

Mid-flight, it abruptly slowed, as if squeezing through an incredibly narrow space.

Now, its progress was very slow, but with every inch forward, its form became more solid, no longer just an ethereal shadow but a tangible monster!

"D*mn it, I knew I shouldn't have looked!"

Wen Wen cursed under his breath, then rushed back to his room and switched to vampire mode. Luckily, he had spent some time pulling pranks while in ghost form; otherwise, he would have been nothing more than prey for that creature.

In ghost form, he had no combat abilities and could only serve as bait for that monster!

Returning to his room wasn't about escaping—it was to arm himself.

With a machete in his left hand and a finely crafted revolver in his right, Wen Wen prepared for battle.

As a somewhat renowned and legally registered detective, Wen Wen had the right to carry a gun. Even if he fired it in the city, as long as he provided a reasonable explanation afterward, he wouldn't face any trouble.

Wen Wen wasn't a traditional hero. Some of the things he had done might even draw public condemnation if revealed.

But at the very least, he didn't have the habit of letting the trouble he caused affect others!

And even if he had to run away and pin the blame elsewhere, he would only do so after confirming he couldn't handle the situation!

Rushing to the hotel rooftop, Wen Wen watched as the creature slowly manifested in the real world, feeling a mix of emotions. Who would've thought that capturing a new monster wouldn't bring him any power boost but instead landed him in trouble?

"I just looked at you for a second, is it really necessary to chase me? Also… I hope those cops will believe me when I say I'm fighting a monster…"

He aimed his revolver at the creature as it gradually emerged into the real world, decisively pulling the trigger and emptying his bullets. The deafening gunshots caused a commotion around the hotel.

Fortunately, it was midnight, and there were no pedestrians on the street. Otherwise, the situation would have been much worse.
