Chapter 30 - CHAPTER 30: Solo Mission(1)

Okuagu after a light snack went back to the dojo, satisfied with his new progress. "Now for some combat skills" Okuagu said out loud as he picked up his spear. The first dummy fell with a frightening kick, it's head tumbling on the floor. "I'll surely hate to be your opponent" said Gale who was at the dojo's entrance with a rather annoyed look on his face. "Anyways there is a mission for you" he added smiling sheepishly. "A solo mission? Why can't the entire squad join me? Okuagu asked a tint of disinterest in his voice. "It's not that serious of a mission" replied Gale. "So why me? Asked Okuagu. "Consider it a way of thanking you for the wonderful dinner the other day" replied Gale with a grin. "So what am I hunting" Okuagu asked flashing his canines. Gale simply replied with a shrug "Humans" ….

Okuagu's mission was to bring down a group of bandits terrorizing a small town by the name of Jorgsville. Jorgsville was a rather poor town with numerous slums located everywhere. The town was surprisingly ruled by the same gang of bandits Okuagu had been sent to hunt. Okuagu was not at all intrigued at the mission, for he felt it was going to be a significant waste of his time; time that he needed for other important things. He arrived the town on foot; his black cloak covering his face. From what he had gathered Okuagu learnt that the gang was far bigger than what Gale said. The townsfolk also seemed to be wary of him, treating him with suspicion and generally refusing to answer any of his questions. Normally soldiers would have been deployed to handle the situation but apparently the new king of Lionsdale had better use of his forces, leaving the Hunters lodge to take care of some minor safety disturbances in the kingdom. After some time of searching without success Okuagu decided to wait in a small tavern. Okuagu had not given up but was simply waiting for the bandits to come to him, after all from the various looks he had gotten on coming to this town, he knew that the bandits were pretty much aware of his presence. Soon enough four rough looking young men made their way to his table."What are you looking for stranger? The tallest of the men asked his body emitting killing intent. "Oh I'm just looking for some bandits, that's all" Okuagu replied cursing the fact that he hadn't taken some tea with him. "Really? Why don't we take you to them" laughed a bandit with a broken tooth? "Sure that is very fine by me gentlemen" Okuagu said as he couldn't believe everything was going so smoothly. Okuagu followed the young men to meet the supposed bandit leader who to his disgust was a short wrinkly man with frog like eyes."Boss this vermin said he came here to look for us" laughed the tall bandit; tears streaming from his eyes. "So what brings you here bean pole? The bandit leader asked grinning madly. "Nothing much, I was sent to get rid of you" Okuagu replied with a bow. "I guess our conversation ends here" the bandit leader laughed as he made a throat slicing gesture directed at Okuagu. "The feelings mutual" Okuagu said with a smile…

"I guess that little training was useful" Okuagu said to himself before he sent a massive heat wave from his body towards the bandits. The bandits screamed in apparent agony as their skin and flesh melted away to reveal the bones underneath.

"That wasn't supposed to happen'' Okuagu said to himself, fear written all over his face. He was deeply shaken by the sight of the charred bandits; after all he had released what was supposed to be a very small amount of heat. An amount that was supposed to give them burns at most not immolate them. More bandits ran in hollering curses at the top of their voices their blades gleaming in the sunlight. Okuagu took them down with simple fighting skills not daring to use his gift, at least for their own sake. The normal bandits posed no challenge towards him and save for some few scratches, he was surprisingly unscathed. The short bandit leader however had escaped during the commotion; riding away on a black horse. After some time of fighting Okuagu emerged from the bandit's hideout rather sad. The mission seemed to be nearing completion, but still he couldn't forget the painful screams from the unfortunate bandits that received the heat attack. "I guess I have to learn how to control my gift more" Okuagu thought. "What a pain" he added with a sigh.
