"What? Where?" Raymond barked, his hand instinctively for his gun. The metallic click of safeties disengaging echoed through the air as the others followed suit, taking a defensive stance.
"I cannot exactly say where or who they are but I know we have company." Lily said shifting on her feet.
"That's not enough information, Lily?" Raymond seethed. "Are they here for us or what? Could it be security doing rounds? Give us something!" He scolded, his eyes switching from gold to grey and back to gold. Ritchie wasn't having it at the moment.
"Alright! Relax, okay? I'd see what I can do." She said. Sighing she squatted, placing her palm to the ground she willed her mind to scout the entire area.
After some minutes, she stood chanting another incantation before signalling to all of them to keep quiet.
"The people approaching are close." She whispered to Ray but everyone in the crew heard due to their supernatural sense of hearing.
"Okay, but they'd see us" Raymond deadpanned.
"No, they won't. I have released a cloaking spell. We look like junk to them right now." Raymond nodded in understanding, going to stand behind her, straining his ears and nostrils, hoping he could get something, no matter how small..
"I do not understand why we are here, Calum. I haven't had any cooked meal in months, just stinky rats and mice. I think I'm going to back out." The shorter man said.
"But we are soldiers, Toby. We can't back out now. Atleast we aren't fighting. You and I know how horrible our fighting skills are. And besides, Grey would never agree to that so I suggest you stop dreaming." The taller one said tapping Toby's shoulder.
"Then we should kill Grey." Toby said, still acting stubborn.
Calum broke into a fit of laughter when he had registered the words his partner spewed. "Kill? Really? You really are crazy, you know that right?"
Toby's expression got uglier on hearing those words. "I'm actually serious, Calum. If you aren't with me then there's no problem, but I am serious. I might not know how to fight and that's okay but I've got the brains to carry out my plan." He said turning away from his partner and moving forward.
"And pray tell, Partner. What could this badass plan of yours be, huh? And let's say you happen to succeed in killing Sir Grey, how do you handle his Father, The Maniac who brought us all here?" Calum tone dripped with sarcasm and curiosity.
Raymond froze in his spot, turning to Lily who looked unfazed by the news, confusing him further.
His partners eyes locked into his, sparkling with a hint of excitement.
"I say we frame the girl. We could convince the bulky guy that looks after her dungeon to partner with us." Toby said, his eyes shining in excitement.
Ritchie almost let out a growl if not for Raymond's quick intervention. He was finding it hard keeping his hands and legs together. They itched to storm out there, take those guards by the neck, snapping them in halves.
His mind was having difficulty piecing all the information he had heard together. He had been trying to push them behind to push them to the back of his mind but he was failing woefully.
"Frame the girl? Haha, have you seen her recently? She has been unconscious since the 'Maniac' visited her. She has a lot of wounds, and I'm talking seriously deep wounds. If there's anyone I'd love to kill, it's the Maniac." Calum said dismissively as he walked away leaving his partner behind.
"Hello, Calum and Toby." Lily said stepping up behind them.
They turned around trying to trace the source of the voice they heard. Seeing no one, their eyes was filled with horror.
"I told you this area smelt weird" Calum said as the two men stood covering each other's backs.
"Relax, guys. I'm not here to harm you" She said changing her position again, confusing the men further.
"Then why are you here? Just wait till my boss realizes you are here. He'd make sure you are dead in seconds." Toby said trying as hard as possible to keep a confident front.
"Hahaha, which of your bosses? The one you want to kill or the one your partner wants to kill, huh? Like I said, relax and breathe in." She said soothingly, she started whispering an incantation which in turn made the men relax their stance.
"Exactly, just like that... Now I need you both to take me to the most stealth entrance you've got. The one with the lowest security." She ordered.
They turned back to the road, walking away like lifeless robots. Lily signalled that the crew follows her and they began walking behind her. Raymond had successfully pushed all he heard to the back of his mind, deciding to deal with getting his mate back first.
"What do we do when we find the passage? We are going in blind." Margaret asked, making everyone turn to her as she had been quiet since her banter with Darius in the vehicle.
"We'd be fine, Mag. There are only 30 men here and we are 40 of us. We can handle them, okay?" Darius said rubbing her arm.
'Are you okay?' Darius asked Raymond through the mind link.
'Yeah, I am.' Raymond replied monotonously.
'You aren't' Darius said. Raymond could feel his worry and concern through the link, but blocked it off deciding to stay numb.
'And nothing can be done about it...at the moment.'
Sensing his Alpha's mood, he realized that it would be best to drop the topic so he did.
As they approached the entrance, Raymond perceived his father's scent. It was so strong you'd think you were in his bathroom. Ritchie itched and pinched to take over, the force was so strong Raymond had to shut his eyes, standing in one spot.
"Try harder, Raymond. We wouldn't want to alert them just yet." Lily said taking his arm in hers. Her touch jolted him back to reality, forcing him to push Ritchie into a room in his mind, banging the door.
"Thanks" he muttering as he walked up to her.
"It's okay. Just remember to not do anything stupid." Lily said glaring at him.
Hopefully I won't
