Chapter 8 - Strange Phenomenon

Pain! An overwhelming feeling of discomfort jolt up his spine as his body impacted the cold and bare ground. Cursing under his breath, he let out a frustrating hiss as he struggles to push himself off the ground, however his limps gave way, perhaps due to the loss of strength in them so he fell back down.

Looking up at the the way he fell through, he determines the distance of his fall and assume that the only way he would be able to get back up is to find another way around as the gigantic hole he fell through is too high to reach, even if he jumps.

His once steady breathing begins to come out in shallow pants as the rhythmic pounding of his heart soon became uneven.

Why is it that mishaps tends to come his way anytime he hangs out with Jake? Quincy thought as he took a quick look of his surroundings.

He doesn't even know the hell hole he fell into but one thing he is certain of is that it is dark, and the darkness within is so thick that Quincy could almost feel it gnawing at his skin.

With a frantical effort, he managed to turn on his phone as he brightens the path before him with the light emitting from his phone. Once more, he struggles to get himself upon his feet, this time mustering all the strength in his body to keep himself balanced on both legs.

Walking with a slow but steady footsteps, an action that indicate he is been cautious, Quincy advances deeper away from where he had fallen.

The sight of the environment seem pretty bizarre as Quincy noticed the strange drawings on the walls which looks like they are trying to pass a message, a message Quincy doesn't have the luxury of time to decipher as he made his way into the innermost parts of the darkness letting the light from his phone guide him.

Apart from the strange drawings on the walls, Quiny also noticed statues placed at every corner of the way the deeper he ventures into the darkness. He reckons that the statues had been made to depict some kind of legend or folklore or whatever those that built the tunnel believed in.

As he made his way into the deepest parts of the darkness, he saw a small bright light shining at a distance, an indication that the way out of this hell hole is not far anymore. Quincy ran towards that light, forcing himself to resist the impulse of pain that tends to weaken his body.

Howbeit to his disappointment, the light doesn't signify a way out rather it led to a large hall that is dimly lit than the tunnel he walked out of. Letting his gaze wander across the hall, Quincy reckon that the structure would have been over a century years old or even more as he notice the cracked statues and moss-covered walls of the hall. It is obvious that it is abandoned.

The hall was relatively big and it allowed the passage of moonlight from an opening which Quincy knows he can't reach, try as he might. There were strange markings on the wall and Quincy believe that it might have been a way those who built it probably communicated between themselves. He reckons that those signs are just part of the language used by the occupants of the hall.

As Quincy scanned the hall with his gaze, he caught sight of a weird statue. The statue was depicted in the form of a man and clothed in armour as he held what seems to look like a spear, however the shape of the spear in his hand is in the form of a zigzag.

As Quincy stares at the statue, a realisation dawned upon him as he gasp in shock. Though he is an atheist and hardly pay attention to any mythological bullshit,Quincy is relatively familiar with the tales that surrounds the man in whose form the statue is built. Coupled with the drawings on the walls, Quincy immediately recognised the man as the most powerful god in the Olympic Pantheon, so powerful that other gods refer to him as the god father. He is called Zeus.

Quincy stood at the base of the statue as he admires the fifteen feet tall statue before him. It seems like those who built this place are also believers of the Greek gods. Or maybe, the earliest settlers of Celestial Falls probably originated from Greek before moving here.

What seems to baffle Quincy the more is that this structure has been beneath the ground for up to a century or maybe over a century yet no one has discovered it. Perhaps, they did but they just didn't pay much attention to the structure.

As he ponders deeply, Quincy soon know that he had just not fallen into a tunnel, he fell into a temple. An ancient temple if he may and that would explain all the strange markings and symbols and even the statues he has passed by before entering the hall.

By the looks of things, this hall seems to be the place where the indigenes might gather to rever the gods or worship them or whatever act of homage they pay to the gods.

Quincy walked away from the statue of Zeus and made his way towards another unfamiliar sight. He went towards a wall which has another strange symbol carved in it but this symbol in particular is much more larger and stranger than the ones he passed by in the tunnels.

He touched the symbol, feeling the carving of the symbol under his fingers when suddenly, he grazed his pinkie. Quincy yelped in pain, taking a step back as he looks at his bleeding finger which drips of his blood.

Without hesitation, he put the finger in his mouth to suck on it in a bid to enable the blood to clot faster so as to close up the injury. Unknown to him, the ground his blood fell on wasn't just ordinary but a necessity to trigger his hidden potentials.

Suddenly, Quincy felt goosebumps on his body. The once eerie atmosphere of the hall became even more tense as it became suffocating. On the spot Quincy stood upon, a golden light begins to brighten the hall as it was emitted all of a sudden from the ground, completely engulfing the entire hall in the process.

The light grew brighter and brighter by the second as Quincy stares, in confusion and fear, at the strange sight unfolding before him. The gentle breeze of the hall begins to blow more violently that it literally shook the hall. It was as though an earthquake is about to happen but the earth refused to open her mouth as Quincy stood transfixed on his spot.

The sound of lightning and thunder claps rang violently in the ears of Quincy with the passage of time and the violent sound of a raging wave silently emerged from the background.

Quincy wasn't sure about the phenomenon happening around him and he isn't sure about what he did to trigger such occurrences but with the way everything is literally falling out of place in the hall that even the statue of Zeus had fall face down to the earth, Quincy knows better than to stay as he turned with all his might and took to his heels.
