Chapter 1 - Aleks Merin

[Warning: Daily Quest Not Yet Completed!]

A domineering and yet innocent female voice echoed in my mind.

Her voice, I hear it everyday when I wake up.

I heard it when I first woke up.

Originally I was living a nice peaceful life on Earth working as a martial arts instructor.

I opened my eyes after getting knocked down in a world tournament. I thought I had enough power left in me to get up, but when I opened my eyes, I was wearing tattered clothes and had long gray hair!

"Yeah… yeah… finish a day's work of farming and seek world origin."

"My name isn't even Aleks! It's Su Sheng!"

[Please complete the daily quest!]

"Alright… since you said it so sweetly"

I got rid of my frown because this voice was too sweet. How could I be so mad at something that I can't control?

All I have to do is work this rice field until the sun goes down, head to the tavern and ask around.

When I first got here I asked about 'World Origin' but then got laughed at, so I won't make that mistake again!

Hmph.

If I wasn't constantly being bugged about this 'daily quest' and 'world origin' I'd have kept quiet and lived my life, but now… I don't know where to go!

[System has noted the user's intrigue in understanding World Origin, would you like more information?]

Are you serious? I could have asked you this entire time?

"Alright play it cool Aleks… I mean Su Sheng… cool, calm, and collected, I'm a ladies man. I can't yell at anything, the ladies here would see me as a crazy fellow."

"Please show me more information about World Origin."

[World Origin: Life of each world, used to power the Citadel of Syn. Each World Origin is described as central power of maintaining life]

[Objective: Retrieve World Origin and assimilate with World Power]

"Okay so what is World Power?

[World Power: accumulation and bi-product of World Origin. Often found near World Origin and inside ***]

"Alright, enough said, I think I got the gist of things."

I believe I was sent here to destroy the world…

[Please continue the daily quest!]

Aleks Marin, this was the name of the person that Su Sheng had taken over when he was transmigrated to the world known as Star Boundary.

Although he was confused and completely helpless about the new situation, he followed the direction of the system because it allowed him to adapt to the new world he was in.

The rice field he found himself was exceedingly large, it ranged the distance of a normal city on Earth.

Today, he got more information to complete his daily quest!

He wanted to keep cool and look like a strong character but inside he was jumping up and down!

"I've spent four days not knowing what to do!"

"There was no hint before, but now I can ask around! If it's the life of each world then it must have an impact on the people living on this world!"

Aleks Merin continued his farming for the day, looking calm on the surface.

The sun went down and he walked through the path to the local tavern.

It was made of wood and rather small compared to the large rice field.

But, this tavern had people who drank rice wine and talked about world events outside this rice field.

Aleks walked inside and sat at the bar tapping the table to get the attention of the barkeep.

Aleks adjusted his voice to be deep and mysterious: "Hear anything about magic?"

This was what Aleks was waiting all day to ask, he argued with himself to try to ask the right questions but this was all he could come up with.

The barkeep snickered: "Oh, Aleks, why try to act tough?"

"You raise the grain, pick the rice, and everyday you come in here asking stupid questions."

"Haha, Aleks, you know what, yeah! I heard the Magic Academy of Silver Thread was looking for people with aptitude."

Aleks maintained his poker face: "Good… good…How can I join?"

Inside the mind of Aleks he was jumping up and down: "This world has magic! I knew it was the right question to ask! World Origin = Life!"

The barkeep squinted his eyes: "Oh Aleks, what goes on in that empty mind of yours?"

"You are poor, you wear the same trousers everyday for the last five years, yet out of nowhere you think you can join the upper world of the magic society?"

"If it was so easy then why couldn't I join? Why couldn't Joann join? She has been here longer than you and lost her right leg from the swine flu, yet you don't see her asking to get it healed or joining the magic society to better her life."

Aleks looked at the barkeep sternly: "I need an answer…"

Although the barkeep thought the questions Aleks asked were entertaining, this time he actually found a lead. He was ready to hear something like 'have you ever seen a dead body walk?' He would laugh and say no, but this time touched on the reality of the world he lived in. Everyone wanted to join the magic society, what makes him so special?

The barkeep looked down and up at Aleks.

He was wearing tattered clothes, had dirt and grime from the middle of his shoeless feet to his gray tangled hair.

"Oh, Aleks, you are the same as me and the other farmers, If you could join then it would make us all happy."

"Here is the notice…"

Eventually the barkeep felt bad because he saw that Aleks was just like him and everybody else, except he hasn't given up on living a better life and getting out of the dirt.

Aleks shifted his eyes to the parchment that the barkeep slid towards him: "Read it."

The barkeep: "…"

Aleks: "…"

Aleks didn't know how to read the language here. He was lucky enough to be able to understand the language and speak, otherwise he would be a mute.

Thankfully he was just seen as the farm's own idiot.

The barkeep snickered: "Alright, the general gist tells you that those who have aptitude are free to test themselves. Sign up at any local adventurers guild and you will be tested."

Aleks pursed his lips and nodded at the barkeep: "…"

The barkeep slowly blinked his eyesight: "…"

"Oh Aleks, the nearest adventurers guild is far past the pasture and far past the valley. If you go then you are likely to die."

Aleks nodded his head: "Map?"

Aleks tried his best to keep his sentences short, he watched a lot of movies on Earth and knew that the cool tough guys always had short and direct sentences.

The barkeep rolled his eyes: "Five Darnma."

Aleks squinted his eyes: "Darnma…"

The barkeep bit his tongue in anger: "Darnma is the local currency you fool!"

Aleks reached into his pocket to look for what this guy called Darnma.

He felt around and found something thin and round. It was a coin with the head of a griffon!

Aleks grabbed his Darnma and placed it on the bar table.

The barkeep looked at Aleks and the Darnma: "That's three… ugh… fine… here is your damn map you idiot."

Aleks snatched the map and squinted his eyes to look at his surroundings: "Thank you Jefferey."

The barkeep couldn't contain his anger anymore: "You damn idiot my name is not Jeffery!"

Aleks walked out the tavern to look tough and mysterious.

When he got out he looked at the rolled parchment paper and saw that it was a very large distance from where he is now and the 'local' adventurers guild.

Thankfully the barkeep was nice enough to draw a red dotted line and a 'X' to where he had to go.

The barkeep really thought Aleks was dumb so he did his best in making some finishing touches so that even a fool like Aleks could find his way.

After all, if Aleks were to die, then the barkeep would feel bad since he was the one to give him the map.

*Ding!

[Quest has been updated!]

[Travel to the city of Hesselton;

Failure: Erasing of existence

Success: Awaken aptitude ]

Aleks looked at a blue window floating in front of him. This was the first time the system presented itself in this way, usually he hears a voice that speaks but this time it was in the form of a pop up!

"Nice, I can't possibly mess up a simple journey from one place to the other, this is an easy one."

Aleks looked at the simple map and the road in front of him.

The barkeep walked out and yelled: "You idiot, north is that way!"

Aleks grunted and walked toward the direction the barkeep pointed, it was no different of a scenery than the other directions, all around him was a rice farm and a poorly made dirt path.
