Emma's eyes met Jack's, her heart racing. "What do we do?" she whispered.
Jack's jaw clenched. "We get out of here. Now."
They hit the streets, weaving through alleys and side streets. Emma struggled to keep up with Jack's rapid pace.
As they turned a corner, a black SUV screeched to a halt beside them. Jack yanked Emma into a nearby doorway, his body shielding hers.
The SUV's tinted window rolled down, revealing a menacing face. "You can't hide forever, Jack," it sneered.
Jack's eyes locked on the face, his expression fierce. "Let's go," he whispered to Emma, pulling her out of the doorway.
They sprinted down the street, the SUV hot on their heels. Emma's breath came in ragged gasps, her heart pounding in her chest.
Just when she thought they'd escape, the SUV swerved, blocking their path. Jack grabbed Emma's hand, pulling her into a nearby subway entrance.
As they descended into the tunnels, Emma's mind reeled with fear. Who were these people? And what did they want with Jack?
