Sonya
The last 48 hours has been wild for me and I didn't see it coming at all. Just as I thought I could force my dad into leaving me alone with his businesses, it turns out that he was doing it as his last wish. At first I was too stunned to really understand what he meant but when he narrated his story and told us how he was about to die soon, I couldn't take it anymore.
My dad can be hard and strict with me most of the time but I don't want him gone. He is the one who taught me most of what I know in my adult life and I'm much closer to him than my mom. Him leaving the family would be a big blow and it would make the family feel empty. Hearing my dad say those words made me break down and I had an immediate change of heart. If he was really going to die, then I have to fulfill his most desired wish before he goes.
That's why I decided to take over from him as he wanted and that seemed to cool down the tension. However, the family dinner we had that Wednesday morning took me again by surprise when I heard an announcement from my dad.
Kelvin was going to be my bodyguard ? I didn't see that coming at all. Why Kelvin of all people ? And to think he's injured, he shocked us all and accepted to be my bodyguard. As I took the news with surprise, Delilah was very unhappy with Kelvin and dad. She then left the dining room in anger.
Speaking of Kelvin, ever since he saved us that Tuesday evening, I began to see him a new light. When dad told us about his imminent death and I had a change of heart, I realized that I had treated Kelvin wrongly and I was blinded by the hate I channeled towards him. I had placed the hate I had for Raymond on Kelvin and I admit what I did wasn't right.
Since this realization, I have been looking for an opportunity to personally apologize to Kelvin cause he also saved me two times. I wanted to show gratitude and when I got the chance, I messed up at the table. I don't know why but I couldn't look him in the eyes and apologize. I felt strange and incapable for some reason. When Delilah left the dining room, I used that opportunity to also leave and I was relieved when no one opposed me.
I got to my room and groaned frustratingly in my pillow when I laid on my bed. What went wrong at the dining table ? Why was it so difficult to say a few words to someone ? I wanted to talk to Olivia about it but I knew she was busy at work. So I was alone in my room, silent and motionless. Then, I involuntarily fell asleep later on.
What actually woke me up in the evening was a text message and it was from dad. He was asking if I would come to dinner that evening and that got me up from bed. I took a long shower, freshened up and went downstairs to the dining room. When I got there, I met Gabriel, Giovanna, mom and dad. There were no trace of Kelvin or Delilah.
Believe me, I was tempted to ask where the two of them were but I fought off the urge to do so. The reaction I'll get from asking that question would get out of hand. I just know it. So I kept my thoughts to myself at the table and I just ate quietly as the rest of the family were chatting happily.
Dad wanted to get me interactive with the conversation but I refused politely. When I was done eating, I greeted them good night and I went back to my quarters. When I sat in my parlour, I remembered Olivia and I phoned her immediately. She picked up seconds later.
"Yoo Sonnie," she called out. "What's up ? I haven't heard from you since you guys were rescued by your enemy....."
"Olivia, that's not nice." I frowned. "He's not my enemy...not anymore."
"What ???????" Olivia elongated sarcastically on the phone. "What happened to my girl ? Seriously, tell me what happened. Did your dad scold you or something ?"
"No," I answered. "There wasn't any scolding. I just realized what I did was wrong."
"What made you realize that ?"
"My dad..." I responded.
"Speaking of him, I just found out about your dad," Olivia remarked. "I'm so sorry girl."
"It's okay Olivia." I sighed. "I'm starting to accept it and move on. I've decided to take over his businesses after all. That way, he can leave this world a happy man."
"It's still sad you had to get it this way, you know." Olivia commented. "So what happens to the catering services ? We worked so hard to make establish that business. What are you going to do with it ?"
"I will let it be as it is," I replied. "I'm not going to take down something you mostly worked hard for. Let that catering shop be a symbol of our constant dedication to overcoming any obstacle that comes our way...."
"Awwwwwn, that's so cute." Olivia squeaked. "So are you going to work tomorrow ? Or you are going to stay home till the handing over ?"
"What makes you ask that ?"
"Someone out there wants to kidnap you," she reminded. "Are you just going out casually like as if the kidnapping attempt never happened ?"
"Oh, that's the thing." I countered. "I have a new bodyguard and it's Kelvin...."
"Kelvin ?!" Olivia exclaimed.
"Yes, Kelvin." I repeated. "Do you know any other Kelvin ?"
"No. But how did you end up with Kelvin ? Does he even want to be your bodyguard or he was forced ?"
"For some reason, what you said hurts." I admitted. "Why would they force him on me ? Am I a horrible person ?"
"Not that. But you haven't treated him well since you know....."
"I apologized to him," I revealed. "Well, kind of cause I didn't do it appropriately. For some reason, I couldn't look at him well to apologize. I felt kind of—"
"Shy ?" Olivia filled in.
"Shy ?" I echoed. "Why would you say that ? Why would I be shy ? Who's shy ? Definitely not me. I have no idea what you are talking about."
"Chill girl, why are you so worked up already ?"
I sighed deeply. "Ever since I realized the wrong I did to Kelvin, I feel ashamed and I don't know how to apologize to him well. It feels like a herculean task."
"Herculean task ?" Olivia chuckled. "Girl you are not like this. What's going on ?"
"I don't know." I replied. "I don't know what is going on. Maybe it's because of my conscience or something..."
Olivia chuckled. "Are you going to work tomorrow ?"
"Yes, I'm going to work."
"Alright." she said. "I'll come to your place tomorrow, so you won't be awkwardly alone with him, okay ?"
"Thanks. That would be very nice." I checked my watch. "It's getting late. I have to go okay ?"
"Alright. See you tomorrow girl. Good night."
"Goodnight."
We hanged up and I placed my phone down on the table. I got in bed as my eyes felt heavy and I fell asleep before I knew it.
It seemed I enjoyed my sleep very well cause when I woke up, I was up late than the normal time. I hurried up and got ready for work. After dressing up and taking my bag, I went downstairs to the dining room and ate breakfast with mom and dad. Dad advised me about work and said he would see me later during the day.
When I finished breakfast, I left the dining room and made my way towards the exit of the house. Just as I was about to get outside, Olivia showed up at the entrance and startled me completely.
"Geez," I exclaimed. "When did you get here ?"
"A minute ago." she replied.
"That was quick."
"Let's go. Your bodyguard is waiting for you by the car...." she teased with a playful face.
I rolled my eyes and we walked towards the car. As we did, Kelvin came into view and he was looking very stunning. He wore a black tuxedo as other bodyguards and it looked very good on him. I ended up staring at him for a few seconds before realising it and finally getting control of myself.
He greeted us and opened the door for us to sit at the back. He closed the door when we got in and he went to sit in front before the driver took off. I don't know why but Kelvin looks different and it's giving me some strange feelings. Something is seriously wrong with me.

Kelvin
Exercising in the gym made me realize that other parts of my body were also injured. My back and knuckles made me groan as I lifted weights but after working on them for a while, I got used to the pain. My ribs didn't hurt as it did in the morning. I could walk well now and my head pain was almost gone. I rested for a while in the gym and continued later.
Gym at least made me forget all about what happened in the dining room that morning. I left the gym and I went to my room to take a shower. Hannah wasn't around, so I guessed she was still with Delilah. After my bath, I wore casual clothes and decided to sleep to regain my lost energy. I was sleeping peacefully for some hours till Hannah woke up cause she was leaving.
We had a chat and I walked her to the car driving her back home. We embraced before she got in the car and after that, she was off. I didn't know what to do at that moment, so I went back to sleeping in my room.
I woke up in the evening and I was very hungry. But I didn't want to go and eat in the dining room, so I ordered Mike to bring up my food and he thankfully did so. He thanked me about the house manager job and we had some small talks. When I was done eating, I slumped in bed and I was gone in a matter of minutes.
I got up early in the morning and ready for my first day as a bodyguard. I wore the same outfit as all the other bodyguards. Mr Hanson called for me to meet him and he gave me a bulletproof vest and a registered gun loaded with bullets. He gave me his blessing and wished me good luck before we ended the meeting.
I then ate breakfast in the kitchen. After all this, I went outside and waited for Sonya to arrive and she was taking a while to show up. As I waited, her friend shows up in an Uber and greets me. She walks towards the house and somehow, she met up with Sonya.
They got to the car and I opened the doors for them and closed it when they were all in the car. I hopped in and the driver sent us away. Sonya and her friend were whispering some undecipherable words and I couldn't understand a word. We dropped her friend at her work first, before finally stopping at Sonya's work. It was a brewery and I followed her till she got to her office. I had to find a place to hang around near her and that's what I did.
Hours passed by and I entertained myself with my phone. Just as I thought Sonya would never get out from her office, she got out and I followed her around. She walked kind of awkwardly and I wonder why. She went around inspecting the place before she went back to her office, took her bag and we left.
It was noon and she asked the driver to take us to some mall. It wasn't her dad's mall, so it raised some questions. When we got there, everything made sense. Sonya's friend met us at a fast food restaurant and I gave them some space as they sat at a table to eat.
I didn't watch them much, I just focused on the other people around in the restaurant and after a few minutes, I heard someone call my name. I turned to the direction in which the call came from and it was from Sonya's friend. She called me to come to their table and I did.
I sat down with them with a confused face and waited to hear why I was called.
"Kelvin," Sonya's friend called. "Do you know me ?"
That was out of the blue but I answered anyways. "No, I don't."
"I'm Olivia," she introduced. "And I know we haven't met properly, so I wanted us to get informal."
I was still puzzled. "But I'm just a bodyguard and it's not my duty to hang around casually like this."
"Says who ?" Olivia laughed and glanced at Sonya who was not looking in our direction. "Feel free, okay ? I've ordered food for the three of us. We can chat here whiles we eat and we can get to know each other."
"I don't think that's a good idea." I remarked as I glanced at Sonya too.
Olivia understood my eye contact. "Oh, don't worry about her. If she wants to join the conversation, she can. If she doesn't, no one is forcing her you know."
I was contemplating and Olivia continued. "Don't worry, you don't have to act tense. Just feel free and enjoy the moment. I have been waiting for this moment for a while now."
The waiter brought the orders and with consistent persuasion from Olivia, I just conformed and ate with her as we had a chat. Sonya just ate and kept quiet the whole time. That made her even invisible to Olivia and I since we conversed like old friends who just got reunited. Olivia is just a fun person.
After eating, we left the restaurant and Olivia departed from us. It became quiet in the car as the driver took us to a textile company. I waited for Sonya to finish her work as usual and by 5pm, she was done and the driver drove us home. We had been quiet the whole day and none of us said a word to each other.
When we finally got home, I opened the door for Sonya and she walked quickly into the house. I waited for a while before I also got into the house. I walked upstairs to my room and when I got there, I met Delilah standing there at the door of my quarters.
We stared at each other for some seconds before Delilah voiced out her thoughts. "Hey, how are you doing ?"
"I'm fine. What about you ?"
"I'm good." she replied. "How was your first day of work ?"
"Decent." I shrugged. "I did nothing much but the first day was okay."
"Good to hear that." Delilah sighed. "I thought you would get injured today but I'm glad you are okay."
A worried look became evident on her face and she came forward to hug me tightly. "I'm sorry about yesterday, Kelvin. Please forgive me for the way I acted. I just didn't want you to go get yourself injured again."
Her sad tone made my heart sink. "Don't be sorry and please stop apologizing. I'm fine right now and that's what matters, okay ?"
"Okay...." she mumbled admist the hug. "Promise me that you will be safe."
"I promise," I responded. "I promise to be safe no matter what happens."
"Good to hear that. I'm now relieved." she muttered. I groaned in pain and she broke away from the hug. "What's wrong ?"
"Your hugged me too tight," I responded. "And I'm still healing from my ribs, remember ?"
"Oh sorry about that. I will be more careful next time." she smiled. "You know, the night is still young. How about we spend some time at the open hut beside the pool ?"
"At this time ?" I asked. She nodded. "Okay, give me a few minutes to change. I'll meet you down there soon."
"Okay." she smiled. "Don't keep me waiting...."
With that, she walked away and I got into my quarters to get ready to go meet her.
