Sonya
Even though I seemed unconcerned about the kidnapping issue towards my family, I wanted to find out the person behind the kidnapping attempts deep down and I was impatient about it. When the person is caught, it would mean that Kelvin would no longer be my bodyguard and everything could go back to normal. Cause Kelvin being my bodyguard is already awkward enough.
The first day was very uncomfortable for me and I had a difficult time moving around cause each time I leave my office, Kelvin would have to follow me around and that made me nervous. I'm supposed to feel safe but for some reason, I felt shy and anxious. I still didn't know why I felt that way. At lunch, Olivia did the unthinkable and invited Kelvin to eat with us when I told her not to.
It made me uneasy and it was hard to eat well when Kelvin was just opposite me. The only thing I did was to bow my head down, mind my business and eat. Olivia and Kelvin had their conversation and they were really having a good time. I was even tempted to join in but I stood my ground. Thankfully, the dinner was over and we went our separate ways. I made a mental note to chew Olivia for what she did when I get the chance.
I returned to work and finished the remaining part of my job and when the day was over, we drove back home with no one saying a word to each other. I let out a huge sigh once I finally got to my room. I spent some time there, taking my shower, relaxing and resting my body. When it was time for dinner, I reluctantly got to the dining room to join the family eat dinner.
To my surprise, Kelvin and Delilah were not at the table for the second time. I wondered where the two of them were and that made me overthink the situation. What if Kelvin indeed was the mastermind behind the kidnapping and he wanted to take Delilah instead ? What if Kelvin had quit the job and Delilah was just in her room ? What if Delilah and Kelvin were just spending time together...
That last thought made me annoyed cause I didn't like that idea. I didn't eat much at the table and I didn't join in on the conversation the others were having. I was just wondering what was up with the two of them. I was so curious about it that, I left the table before anyone and I started to look around for Kelvin and Delilah. Luckily, I found them and it seemed my worse fears were becoming a reality.
Through one of the glass windows, I saw Kelvin and Delilah sitting under the open hut and they were really engrossed with each other and having a good time. I frowned and went upstairs to my room. There was nothing I could do and that's what made me mad. I sulked in my room till I fell asleep.
The next day came up really fast and I readied myself for work. Dad invited me for breakfast and I had to attend it to see what it was all about. Dad spilled the beans and informed us about the death of the captured armed man at the hospital. I was really upset that he died cause it meant that Kelvin would continue to be my bodyguard. Just as I thought I had to finally adapt to the situation, Kelvin figured out the insider and it turned out to be a house worker called Irene.
Personally, I don't know her but I have been seeing her working around me most of the time. This sparked some hope in me that if we captured Irene, she could help us find the perpetrator and Kelvin would finally cease to be my bodyguard. Well, I was too hopeful cause when Kelvin and the other house workers searched for Irene, they came up blank. The gatemen revealed that Irene had left last night and never returned. Everyone was disappointed but no one was as disappointed as Kelvin.
When breakfast was over, I got ready to go to work. As expected, Kelvin was already waiting for me at the car and he opened it for me to enter. I followed through and we were off to work. It was quiet as usual and when we got to the brewery, I got to my office immediately. I felt less nervous today but felt upset when I remembered what I saw last night.
When it was time for lunch, we went to the mall and met Olivia waiting for me at the fast food restaurant. She sat at a table and I joined her whiles Kelvin went to sit at another table.
"What was the meaning of what you did yesterday ?" I voiced out when I finally sat with her.
"Who starts a conversation like that ?" Olivia fired back with a chuckle. "You didn't even ask how I am doing."
"I'm serious...."
"Take a chill pill, girl." Olivia laughed. "Why are you bringing this up now ? You had the whole of yesterday to say something about it."
"I wanted to talk about it face to face." I replied with folded arms.
"What's there to talk about ?" Olivia shrugged. "I wanted to know him better and I invited him to eat with us. What's the big deal ?"
"The big deal is that you didn't ask me first."
Olivia laughed. "Why ask you ? You don't have a care in the world about him."
"We came to eat and chat. Not the other way around, Olivia." I frowned.
"Why are you talking like I can just come to your house and talk to Kelvin anyhow ?"
"Because you can literally....."
The waiter came to our table and cut me off by asking for our orders. I told him mine and Olivia gave hers but she gave two orders. The waiter left and I stared at her plainly .
"What ?" she queried.
"Why are you giving two orders ?" I asked. "Are you that hungry today ?"
"I think you know why....." she smirked sheepishly.
I didn't understand what she meant till I saw her signal someone from behind me. That's when everything made sense.
Kelvin joined us at the table and I felt flustered. Olivia and Kelvin began to chat and it was like Thursday all over again. All I did was remain quiet and wait for my food to be delivered.
Olivia and Kelvin were discussing about their childhood memories and Kelvin's childhood memories were funny and interesting. They were so interesting that I forgot I was waiting for my meal. The waiter came back with our orders and placed them down for us. We started to dig in.
I thought the chat between Olivia and Kelvin would die down once we started to eat but no, they went on with their conversation and I just sat there, eating and listening to everything they said. I also thought that the chat would go on till we finished eating but to my surprise, Olivia received a phone call and answered. When she spoke for a few seconds on the phone, she looked at both of us.
"I need to take this phone call," she said. "It's Prince and we might take a while before we are done with the phone call."
"Of course." I commented with sarcasm.
"She finally spoke," Olivia teased. "I'll be back soon. You two better not fight while I am gone...."
With that, Olivia left the two of us on the table and we both went quiet. Her last statement made it more awkward and I think both of us knew that. We just continued with our meal and no one said anything. The quietness made me start to think about the memories of the past. Particularly, the memories in which Kelvin was involved.
From the first day we met at Gusto's, to when he rescued Delilah and I at West Legon, to when we first met in the house and to when he saved my dad and I at the agency. All these memories came dancing in my head and it made me see how Kelvin had been good to me the whole time. I felt indebted and a huge part of me was telling me to finally talk to him and apologize, so I listened.....
"Hey...." I uttered, breaking the silence.
"Yeah...." Kelvin quipped, obviously shocked that I was talking to him.
"You had a great childhood." I complimented.
"Thanks." he smiled slightly. "It's good to know that you were listening to my experiences."
We all went silent for a while and it became awkward till I decided to talk again.
"Kelvin," I began. "You are a great guy and I'm sorry for taking advantage of that. I've acted badly towards you and I'm not proud of what I did....."
"Wait, Sonya..."
"Hear me out," I implored. "Just let me apologize and makes things right."
"Alright." Kelvin nodded.
I sighed and continued. "I know I can act out of place sometimes and I really have no control over myself but I'm truly sorry for the way I acted at your restaurant. I sincerely apologize also for the way I behaved since then. Trust me, it's not my intention....."
"It's okay with your apology." Kelvin chuckled. "I get it. I wronged you and you were very angry about it. There's no need to apologize. I should even be apologizing since you weren't happy with what happened at our first meeting."
"No no , you got it all wrong." I replied and sighed. "What happened that night wasn't anything serious. I just wanted to throw my anger at anything and I place it on you."
"Really ?"
"Yeah." I nodded. "That's why I am apologizing. I shouldn't have been petty that night."
Kelvin kept mute for some seconds before talking. "It's totally understandable. You couldn't control your anger and you wanted to get rid of it in a way."
"By putting it on someone else. Isn't that bad ?"
"Yeah it is." he answered. "It's bad but I just looked past it and moved on. There's no reason for me to bear a grudge in my heart forever. I'll just calm down and move on."
I was stunned by his reply. I expected him to express how angry he was at me but here, he is telling me that he moved on. Really ?
"So you weren't angry with me ?"
He chuckled. "I was. But I didn't let the anger remain in my heart for more than a day."
I mused. "So you still weren't angry when I called you a pervert ?"
"Wait what ?"
"Nothing." I looked away.
"It's okay. I know already. It's all in the past, okay ?"
I stared at him for a while. "Why are you so good to everyone ?"
"Good to everyone ?" Kelvin arched an eyebrow. "That's a nice thing to say but no, I'm not good to everyone. Some people don't deserve kindness because they will not change from their evil ways, no matter how much you try. They want to keep hurting others and those are the kind of people I will never be good to unless they change."
"Wow." I commented.."I didn't expect that but you made a fair point. Some people don't deserve that. Like the one who is trying to kidnap me....."
"Exactly." he chimed. "Who would want to kidnap you and why ? That person must be very sinister and evil. When that person is caught, he or she doesn't deserve freedom until justice is served."
I stopped eating and relaxed. "I have to say thank you for saving me twice from the hands of the perpetrator. I felt too pompous to do so but now I am saying it from my heart."
"Don't mention it," he smiled. "I did what was right and I have no regrets. I just hope we catch the person behind all this before that person strikes again."
"Yes." I agreed. "I'm really thankful for your contributions towards our search for the perpetrator. You have done more than enough."
Olivia showed up and saw us talking from afar. She had opened her mouth in shock and walked over with that shocked expression on her face. She sat down and watched the both of us.
"Were my eyes deceiving me or I saw the two of you talk just now ?" she queried.
Kelvin and I exchanged smiles and laughed eventually. Olivia just looked at us in confusion and we all continued eating our meal.
"So you guys won't talk again ?" Olivia went on.
"I think we are settled for now." I responded.
"Exactly." Kelvin replied.
We ended up having small talks between our meals and sadly it was over already. I wished we could spend more time together but Olivia and I had to go back to work and that's how we both separated. Kelvin and I got in the car and we spoke a little on our way to the textile company.
I wished I could talk to Kelvin the remainder of the day but I was stacked up with work and it was mostly because my dad didn't come to work today and I had to take over some of his duties. He told me he was preparing me for when I became the head of the business and I couldn't disagree with him. So I spent the remaining day working around the clock to make sure the textile company and mall was in check. I ended up leaving the mall at 6pm.
On our way home, I asked Kelvin to sit with me at the back seat and he comforted me with how my day went. He added some words of encouragement and I felt inspired. We got home and we both walked together towards the main house. I was about to head towards my room when I noticed that dinner was already in session.
I got in the room and joined them. Everyone greeted me and I sat down exhausted at the table.
"How was your first day of work without dad ?" Gabriel inquired.
"It was okay." I answered. "I don't know what you were expecting."
Gabriel laughed and I rolled my eyes at him.
"You will get used to it." dad complimented. "Don't mind Gabriel."
"What did I do now ?" he protested.
"Your brother will be leaving tomorrow with Giovanna." dad informed me.
"Really ? So soon ?" I quizzed.
"Yeah," Gabriel affirmed. "We just came here for Delilah's birthday party. Plus, dad wanted to meet Giovanna too."
"But you didn't leave Italy for my birthday...." I complained. "What were you doing ?"
"Let's not go there...." Gabriel chuckled.
"I will ignore that." I muttered. "So I'll see you guys later then. When are you guys having the wedding ?"
"In two months time." Giovanna responded. "We wanted to do it before your father leaves but he declined."
"It's not necessary..." dad added.
"We tried our best." Gabriel shrugged.
"You know your father already." mom chipped in. "He has already made up his mind."
"Touché." Gabriel complimented.
I received a text message and I checked my phone. I arched my eyebrow in confusion as I'm watched the text message.
"What is it, Sonya ?" mom asked.
"It's an invitation to a bachelorette party...."
