Chapter 9 - Money and Power

"James, why didn't you pick up my calls?" Lord Selldom continued saying. "You need to take back the item my daughter wanted. I don't care how you do it. You can steal it or even openly kill the enemy who got my daughter's item. Just get going right now, understood?"

Trash was quite confused why the man was speaking to someone sleeping and just decided to introduce himself, "Hello, I'm Trash."

"Trash? James, stop joking around. I don't pay you for nothing. Go and get that item!" Lord Selldom's voice got even louder.

"I'm not James; my name is Trash. James is sleeping right now," Trash answered.

"Then wake him up now! How dare he sleep while my daughter is being mistreated? And you, your name is Trash? Don't you have any sort of dignity?" Lord Selldom asked.

"No, I don't. Reg.," as Trash wanted to continue speaking, G cut him off. "James won't be awake soon, and your daughter won't get the treasure. Now this treasure will belong to Trash; if you want it, get it," G said before hanging up the call.

After hearing the full story, G had another great idea to motivate Trash. "Perfect. You just made your first enemies Trash; how does it feel?" She asked amused.

"Enemies? Who is it?" Trash couldn't think of anyone. James was his best friend, and the guy on the phone just had a normal conversation with him. In Trash's mind, there was no one that would hate him.

"Well, you will see soon enough. You better get strong fast," G said with a smile. As expected. He doesn't know anything.

Trash was still confused about his enemies as someone knocked on the door. Behind the door was the auctioneer, handing over the item G just bid for. The rock. It was a rock in a round shape; it even somewhat looked like an egg.

As G took the rock in her hand, she could finally feel that this rock was definitely not a normal rock. It felt like there was mana inside, but the quality of the mana is what made it strange. It felt somewhat ancient and mysterious; G couldn't quite grasp what was hidden inside and couldn't influence this strange mana.

"Is everything to your liking, madam?" The auctioneer asked concerned, worrying that the item just sold for their record price of 200 billion USD wouldn't be satisfying for the customer.

G, who had a concentrated frown on her face, relaxed and answered. "No, everything is fine." She took out a credit card and casually paid the money. "In fact, I think I got it for cheap."

The relieved auctioneer gave G the address of the seller to visit him within a month and gladly left the room. But as soon as G wanted to take another look, the door received another knock. "Can these annoying people stop coming?

She once again opened the door as Trash was too useless to even do that and was greeted by the young girl who competed with her for the treasure along with several bodyguards.

"You? Don't tell me you want to take this rock by force." G asked and was ready to just knock them out if they annoyed her.

But surprisingly enough, the arrogant brat from before seemed a little more mild-mannered. "How do you have so much money?" she asked.

G was somewhat annoyed by all the people but still decided to answer, "Well, I'm a mage. Naturally, I have made enough money to finance my growth," she said. "As to how I got the money. Mostly exploring and finding rare items and stealing."

"And what is more important to gain what I want? Money or strength?" the girl asked.

"Well, it depends. For most people, money would be more important, as no amount of strength would be enough to overthrow the authorities. But if your strength happened to surpass everyone else's, strength would be enough, and you could get anything you wanted even without any money. So I would say without strength enough to surpass everyone, you would need money. But money is still useless before absolute strength," G explained her thought process.

"So why did you come again?" G asked.

The girl pondered G's words and suddenly said, "Attack her!"

The bodyguards acted without hesitation and ran towards G. All of them were mages, and they all attacked at the same time, but as soon as their spells hit G, she was shielded by an invisible barrier in front of her, and with one move, she killed all the bodyguards. After killing the bodyguards, she looked at the girl. "Why is everyone so annoying? At some point it's enough, and I have to start killing people. Why should I let you live?" she asked.

But contrary to what G expected, the girl was happily smiling at the scene of the burnt bodies of her own bodyguards. "As expected. You really are the strongest. Please teach me how to become as strong as you, so I can always get what I want," the girl fell on her knees.

"So you want to leave your father, who gave you everything you wanted, just because you think strength is more important?" G asked, perplexed. Was this girl nuts?

"Yes! My daddy always said that money is everything since I was young. That with money, you could even buy strength. But as soon as someone had more money, he wanted to use strength to take the item away from you. In the end, all that mattered was strength. If my dad or me were strong enough, we could take the item by force. If we had more money than you, you could just take it away by force. In the end, money just seems like useless paper or random numbers on a computer before true power, so I realized I need strength to gain the power I want. So please let me learn. I will do anything," the girl pleaded, still on her knees.

I thought for some time but suddenly had a great idea. "Yes, I will help you become more powerful under just one condition. You will be this guys maid," she said while pointing at Trash.
