Chapter 18 - Sacred Text

As the morning light shot into my room I felt as if today was going to be another day of intense training and long hours of study.

Normally, people would break under these circumstances, but to me, it felt almost like I was back in med school, having to stay up late to study for exams with only a few hours of sleep in a day.

I got out of bed and put on my tunic not knowing what I was going to be doing on this day, but it seemed to me as if today was going to be a pivotal day in my new life.

All of the students under Master Jason lined up just like the previous day.

After he passed each of us he turned around and began to speak.

"For today I will be observing you in combat during our morning practice.

"Yes, Master Jason!" We all said in unison.

Then we all went back down to the training Hall where I had bought the master of fire key to become an official member of the temple.

After he spoke everyone split into pairs to train, but no one seemed to join with me; this was most likely because I intimidated them all.

"Since no one wants to fight you today; then I will take you to a different room for some personal lessons".

"Can you believe that our new arrival seems to be getting special treatment from one of the Masters". I heard one of the students murmur under their voice as I bowed to the master.

"I know this is super messed up. He has only been here for two days". Another one said in response.

"Silence!!!" Master Jason exclaimed in a deep and commanding voice that caused everyone else to suddenly stop talking.

"That is not the reason why I want to train him personally. The reason is that his use of both ice magic and KI is on a much more advanced level than the rest of you.

I was going to just let him train with you all, but none of you seem to want to spar with him. Due to this fact, I am taking a personal interest in his training then.

If any of you have a problem with that you can challenge me to a duel, or you will have to just deal with it".

I noticed that none of these students started to move as a means to challenge the master.

After waiting for a few minutes the master opened up in the sliding doors that led to a back set of rooms.

I followed the master down a long and dark hallway until we arrived at a massive wooden double door that was as tall as the room.

Whatever was behind this door must be of very high value to the masters of this temple because it also had a barrier that was multicolored.

"Now, Logan, whatever you learn behind these walls is to be kept top secret. Because behind these walls is where all of the highest tier KI abilities are kept".

"Yes, master; I will keep the secrets of this section of the temple to myself," I said to him as soon as he finished speaking.

I truly did not expect to gain access to such a very rare archive of monk abilities.

"You already know how to use the ability of frost breath because one of your parents is an ice dragon; so I want to teach you how to appropriately use the ability to transform yourself into a dragon.

If you can manage this all of your ice abilities should be magnified in your true form."

After he spoke; I saw Master Jason deactivate the part of the barrier that was glowing a dark blue color.

"Sacred scrolls is where the original use for ice KI was delivered to us from the Elder Dragon of Ice, Glacies."

As soon as I heard that name it became very difficult for me not to laugh, but I held in the urge. That was because that was the official dragon name for my father.

Now I knew why he had requested that I go to this specific temple to begin my training without him.

Master Jason pulled out a pair of scrolls and handed them to me.

"The first thing that I need you to do is memorize the abilities on these sacred scrolls. After you figure out how to activate one of these abilities I will allow you to eat your mid-day meal".

Master Jason then opened the doors to the first side room that was to the right of where the scrolls were stored.

As I walked into the room I noticed that this room had a very intense temperature that made me sweat as soon as I entered into the room.

"This room was designed to help anyone that uses Ice KI to master their element. That is why the temperature in here is always maintained at the highest degree so that they can push their limits while in this room".

After he spoke those words he walked out of the room and shut the door behind him.

Since I was alone, I chose to remove all of my clothes except for my undergarments. That way, I could resist the heat for as long as possible.

I unrolled the first scroll, and in there I saw pictures of someone who put their hands in a stance to create a miniature ice wall that seemed to cover the area in front of half of their body.

"That seems simple enough". I said as I closed the scroll and took a few deep breaths as the sweat started to develop from my hair.

I took a deep breath to allow the KI side of me to build up. When I thought I had enough of it gathered inside of me I released it and took the stance that was on the scroll.

The ice started to generate any liquid form, but before it could turn solid into a wall like it was supposed to it vaporized.

I repeated this, trying to change it in different ways by taking different amounts of breath, but it did not matter because as soon as it was created, the wall of water evaporated from sight.

Since doing it this way was not working I chose to enhance it using my dragon traits.

I then did the stance again, and this time, instead of just allowing it to go solid on its own, I enhanced it by using Frost Breath at the same time.

This time the wall remained solid, and then started to break down after only a minute of staying solid.

I did not expect to master it right away, but this was progress at least.

The next thing that I did was spend a few hours repeating the process in an attempt to reduce the amount of ice magic required to make it go solid.

I noticed that everything around me started to slowly fade away and be replaced with foggy images of dragons sieging the temple.

Was this an illusion, or was I seeing something of the past?

"I am here to slay the child of Glacies. After he dies my children will grow in strength.

The area faded around me, and I was back in the training room by myself.

After I continued to do my training for three more hours the master opened the door to check on me.

"I came here to check on your progress.

Please show me how far you have come".

As soon as Master Jason requested that of me I fulfilled his request by doing the same thing I had been practicing for many hours.

"That will do for now considering it is your first day.

If you master the use of disability you will be able to maintain its solidness without the use of your frost breath.

Remember that the fact that you are a dragonborn gives you an edge, but if you become too reliant on it it will become a weakness that will make it where you are not able to learn anything new without the use of your dragon powers".

"Yes, master. I will remember that piece of wise advice. I said as I bowed to him.

"This is all the training that you have to do for the day today, but I will have you come back here every time that we spend doing hand-to-hand combat training with the normal students".

The master took the two sacred ice scrolls off of the ground and then put them back behind the sealed barrier.

I thanked him for allowing me to go through the training today. This was because as I went through this training it made me feel closer to my father, and that made me very satisfied about my bloodline.

After that, I made my way back into the training sessions to train with everyone else.

The Masters trained us all as a group for the rest of the day in breathing techniques to increase our KI capacity. I had the two meals that they offered although they did not consume any meat.

After that, I went to bed knowing that my martial arts training through the use of my KI to enhance my attacks had only begun. The possibilities of hell powerful I could become in this new life were truly mind-boggling.
