Chapter 17 - A Mistake That Might Be Fatel

"so I think that we should forget most of the formalities while we are on the road. If that is okay with you". Prince Benyail said to me as the carriage started to leave the safety of the dwarven city.

"As you wish; my prince".

"Please just call me Benyail". He said very frustratingly at me in response to my answer.

"Ok; Benyail".

"I thought I would tell you that we have already established portals in all the dwarven territories except for this one city. When we get this complete we will be able to teleport to any location within the dwarven or human kingdoms. This will make travel a lot easier and convenient for our important individuals".

"I see".

That sounded just like teleportation in a video game. I truly became excited thinking about how this world would use such a technology since it does not follow the same principles as a game.

"If you continue to do a great job of protecting me like you did on the last mission I will be able to reward you with more than just money". He said.

"Like what exactly would the other rewards be?" I asked him with a straight face.

"The rewards that I could give you for such a good service would be quite varied.

The first thing I could do would be to give you land and a title. Secondly, I could get you any woman that you desire if power or standing is not what you are seeking in exchange for your services.

If those two things are not enough for you I could always possibly make you a member of the Dragon Guard with my father's permission".

"I will have to think about what it is I would want from you, but before I even do that, I need to fulfill the mission that you have given to me on this day."

As soon as I spoke the carriage stopped moving, and I noticed that there were more people outside wanting to ambush us.

"Are we going to have to kill your driver, or will you get out of the carriage for us". I heard a deep male voice say from outside of the carriage.

This voice sounded human which meant that we probably ran into a group of human bandits.

"Let me take care of this. If they find out that you are of the carriage; they will most likely use you as a bargaining chip to make a small profit". I whispered to him as I opened the door.

He then nodded at me as if he acknowledged what I said.

When I walked out of the carriage I noticed that we were within seeing distance of the targeted town, but the main thing that Drew my attention was the group of ten different bandits.

The person who was clearly in charge was a human with red hair and he wielded a single-edged curved blade.

This group of bandits consisted mostly of humans, but there were also two demi-humans in it. They were bunny dimensions that were not even aware of shoes.

"This can be as easy as you want it to be. You can give us all that you own in exchange for your life".

"I think I am going to take the third option".

"I never gave you a third op..."

As soon as he started to speak in response to what I said I rushed over to him and severed his head with one clean swing of my sword.

The bunny demi-humans started to rush at me, and they both made a clean kick in my chest. The impact caused me to shake, and fall on one knee.

this told me that while I was getting stronger in this world I had a long way to go before I became the true untouchable tank.

The other human members of their group all started to cast spells toward me, but I rolled to my right a few times to dodge them since they were not massive area-of-effect spells.

I rose to my feet as soon as the shots of magic were passed me.

It did not take me long to close the distance and I targeted their arms with my greatsword so that they could no longer cast their magic.

"You bastard!!!! I will may you pay for that". One of the demi-humans said as they rushed at me.

"Did you truly think that that was going to work against me twice". I said to her as I blocked her legs with the edge of my greatsword.

I then did a swift swirl attack as a countermove to what they did to me.

As soon as my sword went through their body it became dead and lifeless on the ground beside me.

The only two magic users that had their hands still attached cast a set of fire spells at me.

To ensure my survival against this attack I activated my only available skill. "Guardian!"

Their fire spells made contact with me, but they did not even harm me due to the effects of my activated skill.

"See, guys, that is how you slaughter a useless dwarf and combat".

I started to laugh as the smoke started to clear. They slowly backed away from me as I made my way out of the smoke without a single new scratch on my body.

"You seem to be in a state of delusion if you believe that our race is weak against magic".

Then I swung at the legs and killed all of the remaining bandits.

Giltrude has reached the next level.

"The bandits are defeated, and we can proceed with the plan". I said to the guard which I saw shaking as if he was drowning in fear when I approached him.

It did not take long for the carriage to move again after I got into it.

We quickly made our way to the city and reinstalled the last of the crystals needed for the teleportation circle in this town to activate.

The inside of the building that had the teleporters was three stories high. Each of the floors had one teleporter on it, and they were each restricted except for the bottom floor.

Each of the teleporters was being maintained by a pair of human mages.

"As I promised I will give you whatever you desire if it is within my power since you have now saved my life twice".

I thought about this for a minute before giving him an answer.

After thinking I decided that the best thing for me to receive in exchange for this would be the ability to train among the elite if I was going to get myself to be as strong as possible.

"I want to become a member of The Dragon Guard".

"All right; if you wait here for about an hour I will return and give you the answer that I can about your question to become a member of The Dragon Guard".

As soon as he spoke those words, I noticed that he stepped on one of the teleporters, and as it powered up, he vanished from My sight.

I waited for over an hour just as he had requested, and I saw that he returned with a seal in his right hand.

"After I had explained that you have saved me twice now my father agreed that it was a fair trade-off for saving the life of his youngest son". Said to me as he handed me the seal that was in his hand.

The item that he gave me had an emblem of a bear and a pair of axes. It looked like the official seal of a household.

"What is this for?"I asked as I examined the seal in my hand.

"You will need that seal to prove to the members of the Dragon guard that you have been invited to join them by the king of the dwarves himself".

"Okay; I will accept this invitation. You can give your father my thanks for allowing me to have access to this opportunity".

" I will. Now you can go to the dragon guard training facility by stepping on this teleporter and saying dragon's keep while the magic is activating around you".

He then stepped on the teleporter and spoke as the magic was gathered around him. Dwarven Capital City".

As soon as he spoke those words he vanished from sight, and the portal was now empty.

I stepped on the portal as soon as the blue glow from the magic left it.

The human mages started to chant something, and the area around me lit up a light blue color.

As the magic was generating around my feet I spoke the words "Dragon's Reach".

Whenever those words were spoken from my lips I noticed that the entire area around me turned white, and I was no longer in the Dwarven City.

I was surrounded by woods on all sides, and I had a pair of elven daggers pointed at my throat almost instantly after stepping off of the portal.

"Move one inch, and I will end your short life, you stubborn dwarf."
